Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Don't know about the GAP, but I did a lot of work trying to get a reliable 10mm load in the 135 to 145PF range. The short and long of it is, they do not work well down there at that level. My Delta definitely likes it above 165, 180 seems like its sweet spot. Trying the lighter loads and lighter recoil springs with that heavy slide made for a real sluggish pistol. It was much easier to get my .40 1911 running at that level than it was my 10. I can understand what Duane is saying, but to put the Colt Delta Elite with the 9 micky mouse in ESP is absurd. There are only a few of us that would compete with one, so I do not think we would steal any of the .45ACP's thunder. (edited for spelling)
  2. Matt, I'd appreciate it very much if you would post this over at the 1911Forum. Thanks for the info.
  3. Clay, I have been telling IDPA HQ for years to get 10mm back into CDP, where it belongs. A Colt Delta Elite makes for a great CDP gun, but it lacks a little against those 9mm Springfield Loaded's in ESP.
  4. What I find amusing in all this is that if you shoot a .40 or 10mm moon clip revolver, it has to make 165 PF, same as a .45ACP, but if you shoot a .40 or 10mm auto, it has to make 125 PF like a 9mm. When are we going to let 10mm play where it is supposed to?
  5. Here's mine. Caspian frame and slide Nowlin barrel in .40S&W Wilson Combat fire control and safeties AFTEC extractor Videki trigger Bo-Mar rear w/ EGW FO front S&A magwell and grips It also has a spare barrel in 10mm fitted. The gun was built when 10mm was still legal in CDP. The plan was to have one gun for both CDP and ESP. So much for plans. I only use CMC 9rd 10mm mags and it runs great. I would seriously consider building a double stack STI or SVI with a bushing barrel to be IDPA legal. Much more forgiving on reloads. And they will fit in the box.
  6. You just nailed my club. Ron, I understand fully what you are saying, as a SOI and AC, getting good EXPERIENCED SO's who are willing to keep doing it and not get burned out is getting more difficult.
  7. Mark hit it on the head, you can reload on the move behind cover. You can not move from cover with an empty gun.
  8. Another vote for no procedural. I do not imagine the shooter gained any advantage by tossing his magazine, and immediately saying some explecative deleted, before grabbing another mag.
  9. I'd shoot it as Master as well. Look at it this way, how proud of that marksman trophy would you be, knowing you are a master level shooter?
  10. Personally, I like dead animal skin for holsters. My favorite holster for competition is a Heinie DOJ w/ snap straight drop. If you just have to have a plastic holster, Talon Tactical by Mike Benedict and Ready Tactical by Chris Stewart are excellent products. I have a holster and mag carriers by both and recommend them without any reservation.
  11. omnia, I think you have missed the whole point of the statement. 2. Non-threat targets shall not be located so that they will be hit when threat targets are struck. This was made so that someone could not literally put a non-threat on top of or behind a threat target. If you can move right or left, forwards or backwards, and engage the threat target without hitting the non-threat, then the rule has been met. By following your literal interpretation, there would be no point in having non-threats. But as you are playing devil's advocate, you missed the point of the rule on purpose.
  12. I like both. The scenario helps set the "mood" of what you are about to shoot.
  13. There is nothing magic about making a .45 auto run. Having several, they all ran out of the box, but needed those little tweeks that I deem necessary, except for one, a Colt 01091 SS 1911A1. 1911's in .40 tend to be a little picky. At least everyone I have dealt with and I have a couple. If I was going to buy a box stock single stack 1911A1 to play with, without wanting to put any more into it than was necessary, it would be a Colt model number 01091. They run. Mine eats every thing I have fed it. And I can hit a 6in plate at 25yds with it. FYI, I have a couple of +$2000 single stacks. They run better than they look, and they look great.
  14. Mark, the way things go, you are probably closer to being right than either of us. I look at it this way, he kicked 10mm and .400 CorBon out of CDP. Do you think he is going to let .45 GAP in?
  15. I am 99% sure it will be in ESP. Because GAP does not equal ACP.
