  1. Cool, thanks - I guess I will try without basepads first and if that doesn't work for me then ill look at some of these options. I thought base pads or extensionms where a must with the magwell but seems not...
  2. I am ordering the black dawson Ice magwell for my G17 which I intend to run in ESP. What base pads will I need to sit the mags once I install the magwell? Anybody with first hand experience please.. S
  3. mmmm.... I really want the tube to sit flush with the barrel, anybody have by chance a link or the measurements of the +5,+6 nordic tubes so I can be a bit more accurate?
  4. +6 seems like the size then, i didnt realize there was an extended cap!, is this a different part number or does it come with the extension tube as option? update: i just checked the cpwsa website and they only list a +1,2,3,4,5,7,8 (NO 6 - has this part been discontinued?)
  5. so I ordered the +5 thinking this one would sit flush with the barrel but it ended up short (about 2 3/4 - 3 inches), so I am assuming the +6 would fit perfectly with the barrel, correct?, anybody has actually done it and can confirm this is the case? also, brownells doesnt carry the +6, who does??
  6. Oh I know, but it is not pleasing to the eye :-) Regardless, its a great shotgun and will continue to use for years to come but just wont take out for waterfowl anymore, will buy something cheaper to give a beating and be less worried about cosmetic finishes... that's all....
  7. tried oil as well as other cleaning products and nothing worked, the barrel is spotted with areas of surface rust... very dissapointed. What I will probably do is take it for an application of duracoat, I hear this stuff wont rust at all at it will give my barrel its like new finish again, would run about $40-$50 bucks... Will then probably pick up a cheaper pump shotgun in some type of Camo for the dirty work, I hear this camo finish offers excellent rust protection (I guess its like a duracoat?).
  8. Help please, I went duck hunting yesterday and obviously exposed the M2 (syntehtic stock black finish) to the elements, i applied some Remington oil to the outside when finished and put it inside the case, when I got home it was all covered with spots of surface rust in the barrell, I have tried wiping it down hard with cloth and oils (WD-40, RP7 and Remoil) but nothing is really working.... What do i do?, I think this is horrible quality that a $1200 gun will rust so fast! any ideas how to remove and prevent in future?
  9. thanks, think I will go with belt holster first.... will also try their single pouches... thanks all!
  10. About to order my comp-tac holster for IDPA, wondering what is the recommendation or Pros/cons of paddle vs belt holster for a mutli-purpose IDPA/carry holster? I am inclining towards paddle just for the simplicity of on/off but appreciate your thoughts.
  11. so I checked on midway, I see Millet DMS Rifle scope 30mm 1-4x 24mm illuminated circle dot reticle matte product #186660 for $209.00 - is this the right one?, it didn't have the -1 mentioned in the original post....
  12. thanks where do I buy either the Millet or the weaver? and how much can I expect to pay for these?... also I suppose I will need rings and a mini-riser or not?
  13. I just shot my Benny Hill AR15 today for the very first time (first time shooting any AR15 style rifle btw) and I loved it - it shot very flat and felt super smooth, to be honest I thought that a .223 will have more recoil but I guess that is the beauty of this type of rifle... Anyway's I dont have a scope and am trying to decide what to get as my first scope - Benny recommended the Burris 1-4x XTR as a competition scope (about $695 - I think).. but I am looking to start with something way cheaper as I wont be shooting in 3 gun for now (have yet to find a 3 gun club around the Woodlands, TX!) AND just want something to take to the range and enjoy/start practicing for future matches... So, what do I need in a 3 gun scope? and what is the best entry level scope that would work for just regular range shooting and the eventual 3 gun match while I decide to upgrade to the Burris... also is the Burris the scope to have for competition or are there others I should be looking at for when I make the big purchase but around the same price range.... Thanks all for your input!, S
  14. Oh.. yes I ordered a Benelli M2 24 inch on ableammo, probably when I drive down to pick up the AR i will take the SG....
  15. Yes I don't finish in ANY top 10 so far - - but my thought was to go with a nice adjustable stock just to get going. Now that I have the "right" length I never mess with it. The A2 stock was not to my liking - but again from another AR newbie... your mileage may vary Oh Congrats on buying a great rifle from a great guy...did you order a SG from him too? If not you might as well put in the order. He'll tell you everything you need to know and do... Thanks - I felt it was best to go with the REAL thing now that I had the spare change instead of experiencing with different stock rifles and trying to upgrade, especially when 1) I didn't know anything about AR's, and 2) I couldn't seem to find the right platform to begin with (meaning all the rifles I was seeing locally had 16" barrels).. What is a SG?? NOW all I have to do is get out there and start shooting (well.. actually I have to get the rifle first!).
  16. That is exactly what the Man said and I know he is right, I was just wondering what experience others have had with adjustable stocks.... I saw on the website several JP' with ACE ARFX stock and looked kinda cool....
  17. Thanks All, actually I ended up ordering a complete rifle from Benny with all his 'standard features', delivery will depend on if he can get some components such as barrel and bolt carrier but hopefully pretty soon. Do most of you shoot a fixed stock or adjustable?, this is the only doubt I still have, Benny recommended adjustable due to precision, etc... but I have read quite a few posts around that recognize the value of an adjustable stock - what is the vote?, what is the best adjustable that will meet the best of both worlds in terms of stability, accuracy and adjustability?
  18. thats probably what I am thinking but they are not easy to find, I have searched all over without luck. I have spoken to Benny - really accessible and nice guy. He did say they are hard to find as well so he recommends if I can find it myself to just go ahead and buy it, then send it to him..... Can somebody explain to me the different divisions in 3-gun, I am only familiar with pistol USPSA production/limited/open, does 3gun follow the same?, I have heard tactical?, what's the difference?? p.s. not sure if this last question belongs here or on another area but thanks for any pointers....
  19. the armalite I found had no float tube, but a fixed plastic hand guard, is this a problem, can it be later upgraded to float tube or is this a key feature I should find. txs, S edit: actually I just found a 20 inch armalite in gun broker, it reads '20inch stainless steal T heavy', is this what I am looking for?, why the 'heavy' descriptor, are all 20inch described as Heavy or is this something different?
  20. HI All, Hunting around for my first Benelli M2, already made up my mind that its worth spending the extra bucks to get the right shotgun so now I just need to find the right one. I have searched all the shops around my area and all the M2's are either 26 or 28 barrel length which I understand is to long, cutting it is an option but would probably add a couple hundred bucks to the cost to have somebody like Benny or others do it.. so any idea where is the best place to get a 21 or 24 barrel, So here are my questions: 1) where to buy the in the Houston area? 2) which is the ideal length, 21 or 24? - I think I will be shooting tactical/limited division but being my only shot gun (so far) will probably put it to other uses as well (clays, etc.. just for fun or the eventual bird hunt). 3) When I am ready to send it to Benny what should I ask him to do on it / what is required on such a fine gun and how much would this usually set me back? Thanks, S
  21. So, looking around the local shops for my first AR-15, I am considering 2 options: a) Buy the cheapest model I can find, so far this has been an Armalite flattop (non floating tube) for about $1100 and send it to Benny to work his magic.... Buy a nicer model, shoot it for a while and then decide what I want/need added and probably still send it to Benny, I saw a nice S&W MP15 (it has floating tube with picatini rails on all 3 sides, foldable sights, etc...) and this was about $1750.00.... there were models in between these 2 but these are the 2 extremes of the scale. On both scenarios, I am not quite sure what mods would be required for eventually shooting in tactical/limited division?, I dont see myself shooting in Open as this would require also an Open pistol which I don't own and don't plan on anytime soon... Last question, for both options above: What should I have Benny do and is it worth buying the better model and shooting for a while so I can then have first hand experience on what I need/want done to it. I know this is a broad question but appreciate any insight anybody can share. Txs, p.s> I will post a similar topic under shotgun.
  22. so what is the optimal caliber for our sport? I see there are 2 DPMS sportical versions, one in 7.62nato the other 5.56nato. I also saw the model from Tactics LLC, looks sweet too, however it says 16inch barrel and bigbrowdog had mentioned a 20inch barrel?, the DPMS said 16inch as well.
  23. Anybody know where I can find these DPMS around the Houston/Woodlands area?
  24. Hi All, I have been shooting pistol for a few years and want to start rifle shooting. I dont want top dollar as I am not sure if I will be in it for the long run, I do want however to start out with something good that can be later upgraded should I fall into the dark side. So, what is my best choice (specifics please) for a complete AR-15 type gun for around $1000-$1200 bucks... Txs,
  25. I have been trying to reach to Limcat Custom as one of the possibilities for my new limited race gun. I currently own a Limcat wildcat which I absolutely love but am looking at buying a second gund and would want to see if Limcat has anything new, I am also considering other guns from Brazos, Dawson, Triangle, etc... but haven't contacted any of them yet so dont know anything about wait times, etc.. Also, anyone have any experience from SVI custom shop?, worth it vs some of the others mentioned above? Txs, S
