  1. I got the springfield xd adjustable paddle holster. Will it work for production/limited. I am looking at the Bladetech doh but want to start out with what I got to see if it's something I really want to get invested with. It works and I'm on a very fixed budget so I just want to make sure it will do to start out with?

  2. Went to a local Indoor range friday (9/10/10) to test my new Talon Grips and new recoil springs and had a great session. The Talon Grip give's me a lot more control over my gun and the 14# spring makes the gun feel totally different. It run's just as good as the stock 17# spring and i reduced the muzzle flip tremendously so I can reacquire the target faster. Few guys watched me shooting and was totally impressed and asked to shoot my xd9 so i let them each shoot a magazine worth and they went into the show room and bought an xd for themselves lol. At 15 yds, I only had 3 shots not hit the 8 or better area on the target. Very happy with my upgrades and shooting Friday.

Today, 9/12/10, just got back from the Vallejo Gun Show and got some 9mm reloads from my favorite reload company, Miwall corp. They were out of 115g tmj bullets in 1000 but had 125g tmj so i bought 2000 rounds for a little over $300. Disappointed that there were only 2 xd9 magazines for sell in the whole show and they were $36 each. The one company who sells them for $25 was all out so I will have to wait next month and get there early so I can get a couple more mags. Talked to a guy selling powder and primers and learned a lot. He recommended using Tight group (at least to start out with) and I think that's what I'm going to try first. Now I need to figure out what kind of primers I want to use. Can't wait till I get my Dillon Press so I can start cranking out my own rounds!

Can't wait for 9/18 when i take my safe shooting course @ RRGC so I can start to compete and have fun but got to get back to studying for my organic chemistry exam tuesday

  3. I just bought the wolf "variety" recoil spring pack for my xd9 tactical. I got 14-16# recoil springs and the 14# spring works awesome. Out of 50 rounds i only had 2 shots not hit the Alpha zone at 10yds. Where did the recoil go!!!!! lol. I also got some talon grips for my xd9 and it created such an improvement on my gun control and grip!!!!!!!! I'm so excited to shoot a match in 2 weeks!!! even more with my great cheap upgrades!!!!!

  4. I live in Sunny Cali so there really isn't an "off season" but I am a student which makes it difficult to shoot because of the cost of ammo. So in a way it's always like the "off season" for me lol.

    This is what I do:

*strengthen my grip when I am watching tv http://www.sportsunlimitedinc.com/gripmaster-medium-tension-hand-gripper.html

*Take my dog for a 45 min walk everyday and go to the gym. Having good cardio and strength will help you maneuver the stages easier and quicker.

    *Dry Fire drills

(Thanks elbeno for the great video!!!!!!)

Practice different starts that you will encounter in competition

Set up Targets for your air soft gun and practice target acquisition.

Practice drawing your weapon and getting good, consistent draws. You can only get better!

    *Research

    > a lot of my training is watching videos on youtube.com, using the search feature and finding all the great topics and answers here on brian's forum.

    >If you reload then that will definitely take up some time during the offseason so try to make your load/recipe even better so you can have a great round for competition.

    >I don't reload yet, but I research through here and by searching the web about different type of bullets, weights and just ballistics.

    >I also recommend learning about your gun if it is new or you haven't had time to "get to know it". I think knowing how your gun works (ie. springs, trigger, slide, all inner

processes) makes you more confident in your gun because you know what is happening every time you pull that trigger and if something goes wrong you have a better

understanding on how to fix it yourself. (this has helped me and made shooting even more enjoyable.

    *Try New things.

    >a friend of mine who has been shooting competitively for a while now told me that in the "off season" it's ok to try new things (grip, hold, mods to your gun, etc). You never

know you might find something that makes activating targets, acquiring targets, reloading, etc. easier.

Keep your Gun in top shape!

    >just because it's the offseason and you probably wont be shooting it much doesn't mean you can neglect it. Make sure it stay's well lubricated and doesn't start to rust or

    anything like that.

Here is a training regimen from Matt Burkett http://www.doublealpha.biz/courses-tips/matts-tips/#c201

    Hope this helps,

  5. I have a xd9 tactical shooting mainly 115g tmj/fmj reloads or what ever is cheap. I believe the stock/factory spring is 18# and was wondering what # spring people have gone to or prefer?

Anyone know the lbs it takes to pull the trigger? I tried researching this stuff but haven't found a good site. Any suggestions where I can get all the basic facts for the xd9 tactical?

Also my sights seem to be shooting at a 12 o'clock hold.....is this typical for xd's

Thanks everyone for whatever info you can share!

  6. I just got a Xd9 Tactical a couple months ago and today I really focussed on how the sights worked and it seemed that at 25 yds I definitely had to cover up what I wanted to hit, like a 12 o'clock . Even at 10 or 15 yds it was like a center hold if not 12 o'clock hold itself? Does it use 6 o'clock hold at all? I'm just wondering whats a good rule to shoot by with this gun and if thats typical for xd's

    Thanks for any help,

    CSD

  7. The last few days I've worked on shooting faster and I'm having a hard time keeping control of the gun for the second shot. I was practicing at 7-10 yds and each time my first shot was an A and my second shot was either a C or worse (most likely higher off to the left). There is alot of muzzle flip. What can I do to better control the gun on the second shot. I am practicing this so i'm faster and just as accurate.

I shoot right handed, right eye dominate (have left eye closed since I the sights are very blurry or hard to focus on when i have them both opened), in a weaver stance, with a good grip and good trigger pull ( left hand thumb is along the gun "pointing at the target" where my fingers provide a good shelf for the trigger guard/gun), relaxed, and shooting a Sprinfield xd9 Tactical. All parts are factory. No trigger job, no solid guide rod, has standard recoil spring I think is 16lb (maybe can't remember), factory sights and factory grip (thinking about getting a grip from talon grips or something like that for a better hold).

What should I do or what can I do to Improve my control on the second shot that makes it atleast a consistent C (hopefully B or A lol).

At the time I can't get a trigger job and get new sights and stuff because I'm a student and just don't have the money

    Thanks for any help

  8. Richmond is great! I have to take the safe shooter course Sept 18 and then I'll be able to compete against ya :sight: lol. What are you shooting?

That is great. One of my friends maybe two will be in that class as well. I will be there that day for USPSA practice and then back the next day for a match.

Right now I am using a S&W M&P 9mm and I am really thinking about getting the APEX DCAEK to make the trigger better.

You don't have a glock? Don't you have to have one to shoot in gssf? That will be awesome. I'm going to get a few matches in because i want to shoot at the bay bridge charity classic octboer 24. It's great for charity and has alot of sponsers plus the knowledge i will learn lol!!!!!!!!!

  9. Only difference between the 2 is barrel length. Alot of Practical shooters like a longer barrel for accuracy and recoil control (i shoot a sprinfield xd9 tactical). Have you tried the 2 out? Best thing to do is try both out and see what feels great and what you have best control over.

I was looking at the G34 and xd9 and i really compared them. I shot one mag of G34 and right away a mag of the xd9 and really try to get a feel and difference. For me the xd9 fit me better. I'll probably end up with a glock some point in my life but for now i'm a xd boy lol. Whatever you decide on you will love the sport! Welcome

  10. Probably has alot to do with trigger control. I was the same way but first I went to a 15 yd range and really focused on where my gun shot with the sights from a rest and standing then went to 25 to see again. I learned that I really have to cover my target up at 25 yds with my xd9 (factory sights).

Everytime I go to the range I do what I call The Russian Roulette Drill (don't know the exact name of the drill but this made sense to me). Get some snap caps or have some dummy rounds made and throw them into your magazine without looking or have a buddy load your mag for you. When you come across the dummy round you will probably flinch and anticipate the recoil. Work on having a smooth trigger pull so when you do come across a dummy round your sights stay still and don't move. I'm still working on my trigger control but i'm a 1000x more accurate than i was before. It's also great with teaching you how to clear a malfunction safe and fast!

    Hope this helps

  11. Im the same way.

I use my ipod touch to help me relax and go to sleep. There are a few apps from Andrew Johnson I use to help me fall asleep. I like his apps on Stress relief, Deep sleep and relaxation. They really help me loosen up my body and clear my mind. I'll also just listen to soft music to ease my mind. It has really helped me prepare and relax.

  12. XD/XDm pistols are just as competitive as any other. I think that the reason why they may not be as popular in matches is due to the "Bandwagon Factor". If you are new and go to a match and see the majority of the shooters using a Glock, then you will probably end up buying a Glock. As a new pistol owner its easier to have a large social group to help with getting it and the ammo tuned up properly. If you choose to shoot an unpopular gun it will be up to you to figure out what is needed to make it work the best, which is a longer up hill battle.

If you can effectively manage the muzzle flip/recoil so that the sights track consistently then how much it flips does not matter. So really, the bore axis height does not matter :sight:

Pick a gun that fits you and shoot it. If it fits you and fires every time your booger picker pulls the boom lever back how can it be the "Wrong" gun to use?

Its the Indian that gets the job done, not the Arrow......

    LOVE my xd9 tactical!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  13. My guess is a secret pocket inside.

    Good one! But no dice.

It has nothing to with the buttons themselves, the color, or a size aspect of any nature.

    be

i thought you were gonna give us a huge clue lol

  14. does it not have a neck hole? is the shirt really big or really small? Ton's of holes? no collar? made out of wool? Dillon shirt lol. does it have a pocket you can put a pistol in for concealed cary? camo shirt?

  15. I want to get into reloading and have watched alot of videos on youtube and looked at a lot of posts on here about presses and reloading in general and I'm not sure if I should just get a single stage press to start with or go to a progressive. I can't spend alot of money right now due to school so that kinda takes dillon (sdb/550b) out of the running unless anyone wants to help a future surgeon :D lol.

I have a springfield xd9 tactical and thats all besides my sig mosquito (.22lr) so 9mm is all I will be reloading. My next gun will probably be either a 9mm or 40s&w (most likely 9mm). I don't plan on loading rifle rounds anytime soon since I don't plan on buying a rifle in the near future.

So far I have been shooting 115 g TMJ reloads from Miwallcorp and I really like them. I also shoot 115 g fmj from Blazer and UMC.

I might buy some 147g bullets from Montana Gold or something just to feel them out but will most likely be loading 115g FMJ rounds.

I'm just getting into practical shooting and as I said earlier am a med student so there isn't a whole lot of time to shoot but I find time to relax and keep me from going crazy.

So do I get a single stage or get a progressive.

Is the LEE 1000 good for a beginner? I'd appreciate any comments and advice on this. Please let me know what kind of press and from what company.

    Thanks everyone!
