  1. Went to Bullseye today and shot about 350 .22 lr and 200 125g 9mm.

Worked on both strong hand and weak hand shooting and i'm getting a little better but still not very happy with my control. Shot at about 10yds since that is the distance most of the qualifiers i'll be shooting next month seem to be at.

Didn't have as good of a day with my xd9 as I would have liked. It didn't matter how careful/conscious i was of my trigger control and grip, all my shots still hit a little low and to the left but i still had fairly tight groups. I'm thinking that maybe it has to do with the reloads that i bought at the gun show. I found that the stock 17# recoil spring is the best with the 125g rounds. I think I like the 115g rounds more. I just seem to have better control with it.

I tried a new thing today. I put my golf glove on and it seemed to help with my recoil control and just overall control of my xd9. I'm going to have to try it when i go to Richmond RGC to practice and see what it is like while reloading and shooting plates to see if I really like it. Today was more a day to clear my mind than it was to practice. Just got done cleaning my Sig Mosquito and XD9.

  2. I found the best deal was at Costco. It was about $20 cheaper than anywhere else I looked. I bought a touch 32gb. The new ones were just released too.

You can also get 5 bucks off of the itunes cards $60 worth for $55

Costco always has the best deals on ipods. If you don't want to go to costco than I'd just get it from apple.com where you can get it engraved for free and stuff like that.

  3. instead of spending a lot of money on a red dot sight maybe just practice a little more with your factory sights. At first i had trouble but I spent a lot of time on getting use to the sights and now it's automatic. Just getting a red dot sight isn't going to automatically make the bullet hit the steel :roflol:

  4. just send it into Powder river or Springer precision. They work on xd's all the time and have that kind of stuff down pat. I've heard many times how great both companies are and how fast they are at doing them. I'm going to be sending mine in for a trigger job, sight replacement and extended mag release. Have to pro's do it and not worry about screwing up your slide or sights.

  5. Whats the best way to become better at shooting weak handed (left handed for me). When i go to shoot left handed, i'm alright holding the gun steady but when i go to have a smooth trigger pull, i push the gun right and down and feel like an idiot at the same time :roflol: What can I do to become stronger so I can hold the gun steadier and keep it steady when I pull the trigger.

Also how important is it to practice shooting prone and in a kneeling position? Are there any other awkward positions or skills I should work on that i haven't thought of?

    Thanks for the help

  6. if your going to use it for competition, ie 3 gun. then i would get the 4.5. I have the xd9 tactical (5 in barrel) and I love it. It gives me a great sight picture and allows me to handle the recoil very well. I would get the 3.8 if it was going to be a duty/concealed/home defense gun.

I wish i could have gotten the xdm because i have smaller hands and adjusting the back plate would have been nice for me but stupid california doesn't allow them for some dumb reason. Kinda like allowing people to buy 1% milk but not fat free milk lol. Just dumb

  7. Learned a lot today. Finally was able to take the "intro class" today and learned a lot.

To "pass" the class we each had to shoot a 36 round stage that included 6 poppers. It felt really good. 14/15 paper targets were double alpha and the farthest target was alpha charlie. I had tight groupings and good recoil control through out the stage. There's a match tomorrow but idk if I can shoot it......hopefully I can.

  8. I have a Springfield XD9 Tactical and was watching Powder River's Youtube channel and it showed a few interesting upgrades that made me come to this question.

Why would you change the Striker to a heat treated (52-53 Rockwell) Chromalloy steel striker. (http://shop.powderriverprecision.net/product.sc?productId=28&categoryId=4)?

Why would you switch out the striker springs?

I'm mainly shooting 115g and 125g 9mm rounds..........what would going down or going up in recoil spring pound do?

    Thanks

  9. I suggest you sign up at the match. You might get to shoot for free or at a discount.

    Be safe and enjoy,

    DITTO!

I'm guessing ( haven't gotten the class list yet) that he's taking the intro course I'll be teaching at RRGC. Part of our deal there is that, if you pass the course, you get your first RRGC HotShots match no charge. The classifier will be at our sister club, TASC.

By all means, go ahead and sign up. As pointed out, you'll get a head start on your classification, but you'll also get the Front Sight magazine, which is full of tidbits specific for the sport - match dates and results, ads for gear, reloading and equipment maintenance columns, etc..

See ya (literally) at the range,

    Kevin

yea i'm going to be there

  10. Took my Organic chem test today  Thought I was ready for it but I have a feeling I didn't do so good so came home put my "thrifty rig" on and did some dry fire practice. Fine tuned my xd adjustable paddle holster to the best set up for my draw. Worked on various kinds of draws and reloading.

I Love my talon grips but it makes it harder to shift the position of my gun in my hand so I can reach the mag release so worked on getting use to the grip and tried releasing the mag with my trigger finger on the right side of the xd9 and with my weak hand also. Need to focus more when I'm reloading..caught my finger hanging near the trigger guard during reloads so need to be more careful with that. All in all good dry fire session.

Might go to Richmond RGC tomorrow after chem lab to try out the 125g reloads i just bought at the gun show. Can't wait for my 2 extra mags to come from midway friday (hopefully) and the rest of the gear I bought for my range kit.

Still looking at the Midway Competition Bag for my range bag but i'm going to hold off on it for now. My old backpack is doing fine for now

  11. Anybody catch today's episode on the RM3G? It was a "slam bam thank you mam" lets get this match in our rear view episode! What happened to the 2 episode per match format that has worked so well the entire year? The whole pacing of the episode just felt rushed. Am I missing something here?

i felt the same way......I'd rather watch the competitors shoot the stages and see what their rigs are like then see the same shoot off shot 5 times each episode basically. The shoot off is getting old to me.

  12. Love the video!!!!!! brings back old memories of when I did it. Sharks are just amazing animals and much misunderstood by the general public. I'm lucky to live in cali where it is just a few hours drive to see the Great Whites glide through the water effortlessly!

  13. I have a springfield xd9 tactical and I have a hard time reaching the mag release. Before I use to kinda slide the gun in my grip so my thumb could reach the mag release better and then go back to my grip after i load the new mag. That was before I put talon grips on it. Now the sandpaper grip eliminates the ability for me to slide the gun in my grip so I can press the mag release. If I can move the grip so my thumb better hits the mag release then it's almost impossible to reattain my grip without taking valuable seconds. The grip gives me a better hold on my xd9.

What Can I do? I tried releasing the mag with my trigger finger since it's ambidextrous but that doesn't work either. Do i take the talon grip (sand paper) off and just deal with it? I want to shoot production and lim 10 so what kind of mod can I do that is still legal?

I love the gun, my thumb is just a little short of fully pressing the mag release. Please Help
