  1. wow...looks nice. nicely kept grass also! I was originally headed towards the M2 Tactical configuration with the comfortech stock.
  2. Found out my wife is planning to buy me a semi auto shotgun for my 35th birthday! I initially thought I wanted a non-pistol grip 18.5 inch M2 Tactical. but after talking with a helpful fellow I shoot 3 gun with, he reccomended the 21 inch field. and a quick search yeilded the same results on this board. From my search I gather the 21 inch Field is more desired than 18.5, because of the ribbed/vented barrel, and the fact that a +5 shell extension tube ends up flush. Are there any other benifits that I am missing? part of me still likes the idea of 18.5 inches with rifle sights; because that's what i am running with right now (870P). I don't remember how, but i stumbled on this youtube video "What Shotgun is Best for 3 Gun???" by jtischauser. Am i the last person to see it? Thought it was freaking hillarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYG0dy4riLI
  3. So i ended up picking up a hero hd 960 through a buddy of mine who distributes them...and shot some video this past weekend. i did make the blunder of having the scope flip cover blocking the camera though....doh. no biggie, there is always next match.
  4. When i get my brake in i am thinking about asking the gunsmith to drill/tap through the "non working" baffle. Can anyone see any downsides to this modification?
  5. most issues i have run into are mount/ring related. mark your rail where the rings/mounts end or begin with a pencil...to see if you have any movement.
  6. nice, i like what I am reading/seeing regarding the countour hd. i especially like the shape and the laser guide. contour is out of my price range right now; and i can't pass up the "friendly" price my friend just quoted me on a Hero 960. i would like to get it up and running to test it out during an IDPA match tomorrow; will report back.
  7. thanks for the information fellas. i like the price point of the Hero 960, all the available mounting accessories, and versatility. I haven't seen it in person, but to me it looks a bit bulky to be stuck on your forehead...i guess that's the price you pay for durabitly and being water proof. plan to check it out today...
  8. anyone have any point of view video cam experience? saw some video from the I-Kam Xtreme video eyewear, which looks like the best solution; but the resolution isn't that great. i was thinking about picking up a HD Hero 960 to record some 3 gun matches: http://www.goprocamera.com/products/hd-hero-960-camera.php
  9. no you are right; i don't know what i'm talking about...heh. the ranking system at the multi gun i attend, is not broken up into classes. so neither her or I will be shooting with only open class shooters.
  10. multi gun i participate at is open, and the carbine match she is looking to get into is also open. i like it that way, because it allows me to check out different types of setups. i'm with you; recently made a rule of not buying anything unless i have checked it out beforehand. when i started multi gun a few months ago...i was dead set on running my aimpoint + magnifier. after buying an inexpensive hendsoldt magnifier, i found out i didn't like the eye relief and image quality. while talking about optic setups at the match...there were plenty of shooters that offered me to handle thier rifle...and plenty who were proud to show me when i asked. But because of that, my focus changed to running a 1-4X, instead of getting an aimpoint magnifier.
  11. kyle, thanks for the info! this is the first time i have heard of the konus M30; thanks for bringing it to my attention. right now i'm thinking she should go to a carbine match and take a look through different optic setups to see what she likes.
  12. I ran the Daniel Defense and Fastfire II combo for a while in tandem with a 2x-7x. Loved it until I started shooting matches that allow one optic only. Have a look at the Leatherwood, Millet, Nikon, etc. 1-4x's and be done with it. You can get into a more manageable optic for the same price as the Fastfire II. Just my $.02. Cheers, Kyle DocMcg, during your transition to 1-4X...did you happen to take note which of the budget 1-4X's had the most forgiving eye relief/positioning? i am at a loss for terminology, but i'm talking about some scopes i have seen...if your are not positioned exactly where you need to be...you can't see squat; even at 1X.
  13. i am wondering about the learning curve. just this past weekend i was shooting a stage where you had to lay on your side to shoot under an obstical resembling the height of a car. i guess with an offset optic, you could lay on your stomach to cant the rifle. i have been researching the burris fastfire II and a daniel defense angle mount...so ~ $250. primary arms has some $100 micro's and they are not too far away from me; but will let her make the judgement call on dependability.
  14. what is your opinion on offset red dots for 3 gun? I have a friend who wants to try a carbine match and then enter multi-gun. The two matches she is interested in, shoot at a maximum of 100 and 200 yards. She currently has a 3-9X budget scope on her flat top AR15 which we zeroed at 200 yards; which is holding < 2.5 MOA. she wants to bring her AR out vs. borrowing someone else's. and right now, I am leaning toward recommending her an offset mounted micro red dot for the closer...on the move stages. i figure this is a cost effective way to get her started. there are plenty of budget and medium priced micro's to choose from. both matches allow more than one optic, i just have to check her flat top rail space to see if we can accomodate an offset mount. she doesn't have a handguard rail. A downside i see is that she will have to learn to cant the rifle. i don't feel that it is unnatural; but it may be when shooting from awkward positions. i will be sure to have her try it out before buying. Thanks!
  15. good job in placing 2nd graham by the way. if you go with the TR24 (triangle)...there will be no washing out of the reticle.
  16. wow, the larue scope mount is pretty close to the troy BUIS. I guess there is enough clearance between the larue rear locking/tension lever and the side of the troy BUIS? i have a SPR-E mount, and the base is sitting in the same position as yours. i was thinking i may not be able to squeeze a troy BUIS back there because of the larue locking lever. nice rifles by the way!
  17. graham, this past weekend was the first time shooting in a 3 gun match with the TR24G. and happened to be my third time out. let me start off by saying i ranked lower than i did the the first two times out with an Aimpoint. but that was due to errors on my part; which I would have screwed up with the red dot as well. Overall i <3 the TR24G...there was no learning curve for me using the triangle @ 1X. i found it to be just as easy/fast as my aimpoint. but, i wasn't shooting in odd body positions to report about that.
  18. I zero'd at 200 yards @ 4x and when i went to 50 @ 1X, it was dead on.
  19. I am on the fence also between the two...and what i can recommend is to try both out and make the decision based on your preferences. When i say try them both out...look through the optics at the various distances you are planning to shoot at. when you get a chance to test out a 1-4X for example, try walking while keeping your reticle on target. i do not have any 3 gun experience with a varible scope, but I am going that route because of my eyesite. I just started 3 gun; and having been using my 2 MOA aimpoint (i'm a die hard fan of red dots). I wanted to run 3 gun with my aimpoint + a magnifier, but it seems the aimpoint magnifier is the way to go. But, I'm not going to drop $500 until I can test it out; hopefully i will run into someone at the range sooner or later. In the meantime, I picked up a TR24G...which I did try out prior to purchase, and it worked well to aid my bad eyes at medium distances (200-300 yards). but, my main concern is if i will be able to utilize the 1X at speed (i have a match this weekend). i have been practicing looking beyond the scope and not though it...and so far it seems pretty user friendly because of the big bright TR24 triangle. we'll see how it works out for me in a couple days. for the topic of personal protection, I will fall back on the aimpoint. as an inexperienced user...i suspect if i was on the move, and shooting at something on the move, a red dot will be much easier to use.
  20. Update: so I shot with the hensoldt magnifier at a match with 150 & 200 yard steel plates, and didn't have much luck. I had a hard time seeing the steel against the tan dirt backstop. The combinaton of my eyes not being the best (even with contacts), lower magnificaton, short eye relief, and level of optical quality looking though both devices...yielded poor results. I almost didn't finish the 60 second par stage...pretty embarrassing. Sold the hensoldt the following week, and was shopping for an aimpoint magnifier when I saw that red-dot-scopes.com had TR24G's on sale for $644 shipped. So I ended up ordering the TR24G instead..heh. I didn't want to take the gamble with the aimpoint magnifier without having looked through it at various distances. however, during the last couple matches I was able to check out a fellow 3 gunner's TR24R...and was super impressed by it.
  21. Nice Optic! I wouldnt go back either costwise, that would be like trading in a 911 for a s2000. good job though 2011BLDR. I like to see people who are not afraid of spending money on optics.
  22. just got my TR24G in. I imagine using the triangle to holdover targets @ 400 will take some practice...but accomplishable. a couple persons in the below thread talk about using the bottom of the tr24 triangle for a 300 yard target if you are zeroed for 100 yards. and using the bottom of the triangle for a 350 yard target if you are zeroed at ~ 200 yards. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=105034#entry1196169 at 4x the top of the triangle to the bottom is 4.1 MOA @ 400 yards. Assuming the rear rim on this mustang is 18 inches, it should be ~375 yards away. when i zero the AR @ 200 yards, i suppose I would place the bottom of the triangle half way (heightwise) on the rim if i were trying to shoot at it.
  23. got to take another look through an accupoint yesterday. what i like about it, is at 1x...it is very forgiving regarding your head positioning (i don't know the terminology for this). can anyone chime in on how the 1x is on the millet? i know the accupoint is 4 times as much, i'm just trying to research options for my next optic.
