  1. For the record: This guy is buying an A5. If you can't beat 'em join 'em. Dean's a good guy, and a great shooter. The A5 Posse is proud to have him.
  2. Greg Jordan does a lot less aggressive milling for loading than most. He used to be more aggressive but found it was unnecessary. 12 + 1 extended mag tube w/appropriate spring. QD Sling mount on tube clamp. Briley bolt handle. Dovetails a rear sight in. Adds a Champion/Tom Knapp fiber front sight. Puts a Noveske QD sling mount in stock. Internally the only thing he does is install a new "carrier latch spring". $6 from Brownells. He does not lighten the bolt or weld the lifter. He doesn't alter anything else. I know this to be true. I borrowed his and built a bunch of exact duplicates for myself and some guys from my club. The lifter can be welded. I know guys who've done it. I asked Greg about it. He said "Just don't put your thumb in there." He put over 10,000 rounds through his first one then Browning asked for it so they could study it or he would still be shooting it. He's approaching 10,000 rounds, if he hasn't surpassed it by now with his current one. I'm still on my first one and have over 5,000 rounds on it and love it. I always thought the autoload was great, then I shot my first match with an 8 round mag limit. Like it even better for those kind of matches. I've owned Remingtons, SLPs, and Benellis. All will work with the right guy behind them, but I'm an A5 guy. In fact, I'm the founder of the A5 Posse.
  3. Jim, it's actually the 2nd weekend. Gerry, some of your stuff for giveaway would be excellent. You make great stuff. All, if you want choice of Saturday or Sunday (you only shoot one day) I would get those apps in the mail. This thing could fill by Christmas. Thanks, Howard
  4. York Izaak Walton will be hosting the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Multi-Gun Championship again this year at our home range in Dallastown PA. The link to the application is available at http://tinyurl.com/2016MAMGCApp We are located between Baltimore and Harrisburg, and one of the great things about this match is the fact that you don't have to take off several days to get it done. This is a 7 stage multi-gun match that you can shoot in a single day. We keep squad size reasonable and you move right from stage to stage with very little down time. Our staff is almost entirely guys trained for the FNH Championships over the last few years, so they are very good. The entry fee is only $120, which includes a t-shirt and lunch, and we do very generous cash payouts based on 50% of the gross. We expect this match to fill up quickly so don't hesitate too long to get your application and payment in the mail. Although this is a cash payout match we do give some prizes to the shooters by random draw, and last year Magpul gave us mags which we in turn gave to every shooter in attendence . If you're interested in sponsoring the match, or obtaining slots for sponsored shooters please contact me.
  5. RE: 9 rounds in HMO. You don't have to plug it, but no more than 9 rounds at any time means exactly what it says. I'll check with the big boss, but in my opinion lights are not weights, providing they work, and they must remain on the gun at all times. Last year the rules were different so it doesn't matter what Eric did then. H-
  6. Re: Weighted stages Stages 4-7 worth 75 pts Stages 1, 2 and 8 worth 100 pts Stages 3, 9 and 10 worth 125 pts
  7. Bipod studs, small sections of rail, and even small handstops or barricade stops are not a problem. Intent is the issue. When a shooter is pushing the rules we consider it an unfair advantage. The Silo is a neat piece of gear and it has obvious advantages. It belongs in Open, along with Weibad bags, forward grips (if used for support), bipods, and bipods built out of magazines. Yeah, someone tried that once. They got moved to Open.
  8. If you use the Silo as a supporting device you will be moved to open. You could have it on your gun and use it as a barricade stop, or handstop, but if it is between your rifle and a horizontal surface it is considered a support.
  9. Great match Dean! Very fun. Many thanks to you and all the guys who set it up, worked the stages and tore it down. Congratulations to the winners, and a hearty thanks to the sponsors too!
  10. There will be 2 areas of 3 stages (bigger, more long range) and one area of 4 bay stages (shorter, faster). The three areas should be fairly equal in duration and help avoid back ups like we had at stage 2 last year. Even though those guys busted their humps they had a bay stage in their area and it just didn't work out. They were always backed up. I think by keeping like stages together we should alleviate those problems. I am looking for a staffer's email: Mike Clementson from TN. If anyone knows Mike have him email me asap. The email on his application didn't work for me.
  11. I doubt the A5s vs. other shotguns were the reason the guy with the Italian shotgun won the rifle range stage. He did a great job with the shotgun, but he won the stage with his rifle. A5s did finish first and second in the entire match at the Mid-Atlantic Multi-Gun Championship though. None broke, and I never saw one jam either. As MD/RM I only gave permission for one guy to change out his shotgun for another. It wasn't a Browning. For the sake of full disclosure, I am a proud A5 Posse member.
  12. Good match today! Thanks to all the staff. I know how much hard work it takes to produce a quality match, especially in less than perfect weather.
  13. I thought we might have all the staff we need by now, but applications for staff have slowed to a trickle and there are still opportunities to work this match available, but I wouldn't wait too much longer. We have a lot of experience already so if you're new don't be afraid. We can use you. If you have questions message or email me.
  14. If you would like to work this match I would suggest getting the application in the mail asap. Last year we were turning staff away by April 1st. This year it may be March 1st! That's only two weeks away. Apparently everyone wants to work this one again. I'm happy to see that. We have some new people coming aboard too. That's good because this year we're adding a tenth stage.
  15. That's how it looks in York too. This latest cold snap isn't helping.
  16. I don't know if it's a question of "need" but we'd be glad to have you. We generally end up turning potential staff away by April. Which is amazing considering we use 70+ staff for this match and their sacrifice is huge. We basically ask them for an entire week. Of course I'd like to think we treat them well.
  17. 2015 Staff Application.pdf I'd never attached to a post here before. I see what I did wrong before. It should be attached now, H-
  18. The Staff application for this match is now available. I have emailed it to last year's staff already. If you would like to work this match the application is attached, and if you'd like details please feel free to contact me. To head off the question: I believe the competitor applications usually come out in April or so. I'm not in charge of that. I'll let you know when I hear something, although it's just as likely Larry will reply to this post at some point and that's how I find out. Howard Thompson AMD 2015 FNH Championship
  19. Gotta get to bed, but 3-4 moa targets are the norm. Most will be round. I think Larry is shooting Limited so they will be possible with a red dot. I don't think you need a cart. You can park pretty close to the stages. 1 is along the road before you go up the first hill, 2-6 in and around the pits. 7 is on top of the big hill to the left where the pigs were last year. 8 and 9 are towards the house. H-
  20. I like this rule. Gives the Browning A5 an advantage.
  21. They are more for finding the targets, but when the targets move the backers move. More surface area moving means they perform both functions to a degree. The fact that you can see the dirt kick up behind them when you miss helps make the targets easier to call too, and the shooter can tell where they are hitting and make adjustments. We are putting them on MGM flashers at FNH as identifiers. We'll use different colors so the shooter can give the RO and idea where he will start and end, so the RO knows where to be looking. When they are spread out this really helps the RO.
  22. The backers are coroplast, or corrogated plastic. They hold up very well. We did change them after the first day (60+) shooters but they were still visible when we did it. The backers are always 2" on each side bigger than the steel and they move too because they are attached to plate with a 5" strip of velcro. Making hits easier to call. I have used them on 12" steel at 500 and they make the targets easier to see. Denise is correct though, 5.56 doesn't move steel very much. We paint steel grey and never paint it again. We will be using this style of backers at FNH.
  23. Sunday is now full. There are still openings for Saturday. If you live in the mid-atlantic states this is a nice match for $100. Read more about it at http://yorkpistol.blogspot.com/2014/04/june-york-multi-gun-challenge.html The MD at this match is the AMD for the FNH Championship, and 17 of the FNH ROs come from this club. We know what we're doing. Or at least we think we do.
  24. I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking 8:30 am. We're not allowed to shoot at York until 9:00 am.
