  1. I am interesting in hearing from folks who have experience with BOTH Wilson Combat 1911s AND SVI 1911s. Which do you prefer for USPSA competition? Why? How are they different? Should I be looking at something else? To be more specific....this would be a Wilson Combat CQB with a few upgrades (Dawson Precision magwell, slide top serrations, lightened trigger, extended mag release, desensitized grip safety) vs. an SVI of about the same parameters (and both in 45 ACP). It is not so much about price as having the best 1911 for USPSA.
  2. I am building a long loaded (1.21 OAL) .40 major load for my SVI 6 inch gun. I will probably shoot 180 grain Montana Gold jacketed bullets. I am wondering about the differences between VIHTAVUORI N310 and N320. To anyone that has used both..... Which is the softer shooter (or how is the recoil different)? Which is cleaner? Which is more temperature sensitive? Which meters better? Which is cheaper? Which is more available? Other differences? Any sage advice is greatly appreciated!
  3. Anyone know which one is higher on the backstap between the Dawson Ice and the Brazo's magwell? As always--I appreciate the good insights!
  4. Thanks Blue! I had considered that, but was told that it does not extend that much further up the backstrap. I guess I am looking for the magwell that annoys people by crowding the grip.
  5. I have a 6 inch Team Infinity SVI Limited gun on order (yay!). I am wondering about aftermarket magwells. My magwell requirements are a little strange...... I have a smaller hand and would like a magwell that goes further up the backstrap and frontstrap. Effectively, this creates a smaller grip that I prefer. Is there a good choice out there?
  6. I have that exact gun in stainless steel. I absolutely love it. It is extremely accurate and shoots very soft and flat. I've had it since 12-24-2010 and have a little over 7000 rounds through it. However, it does take quite a bit of N320 to make major (5.4 grains) with 180 grain bullets. You got it on Christmas Eve. How absolutely awesome!
  7. Does anyone have a Team Infinity 6in Limited Gun (see attached pic)? I am wondering how you have liked it. Pros? Cons? Reliable? Accurate? Soft shooting?
  8. Thanks guys. Do you have any idea who makes a good bully barrel comp? My thread is 1/2 X 28. My understanding is that the makers of the bully barrel itself are out of business....
  9. Initially, I did not think to get a compensator for my S&W model 41 that I am having built for Steel Challenge. But it looks as though some fairly smart and competitive folks on this board use a compensator--so I have decided to give it a try. My question is.....which compensator? Does a particular manufacturer stand out for .22 LR compensators? FYI, my pistol is a S&W Model 41 with a Clark Custom STC 5.5 inch barrel (threaded in 1/2 X 28). Thanks in advance for your help.
  10. One more question--for those who like C-Mores.....do you like the click adjustable version or the regular? Do you like the polymer housing or the aluminum?
  11. I would love to hear opinions on the best Open optic for the Steel Challenge. I am a USPSA shooter but new to Steel Challenge. This optic will be mounted on a S&W Model 41 from Clark Custom Guns. It has an STC barrel with a pic rail. I was considering the following optics: 1) C-more slide ride (my barrel is drilled and tapped for it), 2) an UltraDot Match Dot, 3) an Aimpoint T-1. I would also love to hear of other good options! Does anyone have experience with 1 or more of these optics (or other optics)? I would love to hear pros and cons from those who know!
  12. I have tried the search function and I don't think this question has been answered conclusively. Who makes the best custom molded earplugs with electronics? Very interested in those who have experience with multiple brands. Also--how long do they generally last and what is the battery situation? Thanks! nem
  13. Yikes--two different answers! My sights are bo-mars--I don't think they are exceptionally tall. Jake and Corey--What kind of mags and basepads do you use?
  14. I am running a Wilson Combat classic 1911 in single stack. The only real mod is a Dawson no gap magwell. I also run Dawson extended base pads for my wilson combat ETM magazines. My question is.....will my gun fit inside the USPSA box? Before you say--"just stick it in the box and see for yourself!"......My club does not have a box! Trying to avoid a rude surprise at a major match! Many thanks, nem
  15. Thanks guys--any experience in competition with full 10 round magazines? Do they seat easily or do you have to slam them home?

    SP01 magazines

Two SP01 magazine questions (as background, I live in California and am restricted to 10 round magazines): 1) Are 10 round magazines made that fit an SPO1? 2) Do these magazine insert easily (e.g., if 10 rounds are tight in the magazine, they won't seat well) and drop free? Many thanks, nem
  17. I put "discriminated against" in quotes because with .357 SIG you get are shooting a round that is major by powerfactor but minor by bullet diameter. We were letting him know that he got a lucky break in a pair of chronomen not knowing the rules, but in the future he likely would not get away with this--even at a local match. I don't think anyone was cheating. I think all parties misunderstood the rules. The chrono men may have been guilty of being resistant to our (meek) challenge, but that is about it.
  18. I get what you're saying, and I think it was a major integrity check for those in the direct decision chain of command. However, as someone on the squad, I can't see myself making too big a stink of it. I mean, my main job at a match is to shoot safely and do as well as I can. Part of doing as well as I can is focusing on my match and keeping my head on straight. Making a big stink is a distraction, and frankly it's the job of the folks at the chrono station. I would probably tell them they got the rule wrong, and if convenient I would alert the range master. However, I wouldn't skip the walkthrough on the next stage in order to track anyone down, and I wouldn't throw away my entry fee by quitting the match in protest. 10 other people agreed with you. Most people won't argue hard for a ruling that will negatively affect a squad mate. I guess we Americans are a polite bunch and perhaps it seems "mean-spirited" Joe4d is correct though--we could have been more vocal. The shooter was new and was of C or D class. He knew enough to know what minor scoring would do to him and was agitated that others were arguing against the ruling. I really just posted because it was a glaring violation of a very basic (and I thought commonly understood) rule. I was flabbergasted.
  19. It was USPSA. And a major match at that (the mods say I cannot identify which one)! I think it was a clear case of conflict avoidance. The chrono men (there were two) and the shooter were adamant. We pulled the shooter aside after the ruling and told him he shouldn't shoot .357 Sig as it was "discriminated against" in USPSA.
  20. 10 shots of 9mm minor vs. 8 shots of .45 ACP major.... Has anyone done any analysis to see which is the more winning combination in Single Stack nationals, etc.? I am just wondering what the conventional wisdom is here. Many thanks! Jay
  21. I shot xxxx a match recently. One shooter shot .357 SIG in Limited 10. The chorno man ruled him "major." I was shocked. With a .355 bullet he should have been ruled minor. Someone reminded the chrono man of this and he ignored him. No one was willing to fight any further on the issue. Honestly, I don't really care as .357 SIG recoils almost as much as .40 anyways. I was just surprised as this was a major match and the chrono man didn't know the rules. Perhaps I will bring a 38 Super as my Limited gun at the next match! A little competitive advantage for me! ;-)
  22. One thing we are neglecting how the rules of Top Shot skew the results we see on TV. On this show, only about 1 event in 3 involves pistols. When pistols are involved, often they are cowboy guns or something else of an "odd" nature. The best candidates are the well rounded ones--not USPSA Open GMs. Add to this the "man down" rule in Top Shot. If a team is down a man, they can select someone from the other team to sit out the event. So in pistol events, prepare to lose your pistol expert (often the USPSA GM). So our USPSA GM never got a chance to "strut his stuff" in some cases. Not to sound ridiculous, but what about the possibility of competitors "throwing challenges?" If you are a pistol expert, do you really mind going into the elimination challenge where you will likely beat the heck out of a precision rifle shooter that you dislike or feel threatened by? We saw some really specialized pistol shooters do terribly. Could they have thrown it? No one can say with 100% certainty except the person competing. I would not draw serious conclusions on the skills of the people involved (or the efficacy of USPSA in general) from this show. USPSA is great they way it is and those are some impressive shooters. Instead--we should respect OTHER shooting disciplines MORE than we do. I know of lots of USPSA shooters who look down on other disciplines/games and clearly, they are wrong.
  23. Thanks guys--some great feedback as always. Just to confirm.....does the CZ have a larger grip (in terms of circumference) than the 2011?
