  1. Does anyone have a Win231 MAJOR load for 180gr TC .40sw? I'd like to be around 175 power factor. ...I don't have access to a chrono yet.

    Thanks,

    Darren

  2. I fell in love with the Spartan after playing with it on the STI table at Area 4.

The only thing I need to make it run is an ambi safety... rather than buy one and have fitted elsewhere, how much trouble would it be (and cost) to have it done? And who/where do I call?

  3. Mike, FWIW.... N320 is somewhat temp sensitive, too, IME...

Loading w/ a 185gr Precision Bullet for my Trojan, in the middle of summer, 4.2gr makes 170PF. At DoubleTap last year (as the only shooter to chrono successfully... :D ), 4.7 barely squeaked by at 165PF. That's actually slightly more variation than VV predicts in their loading manual formulas, but its still about the expected curve...

I haven't tested TG in this fashion (or any other powder other than 7625, actually), but... it wouldn't surprise me if it swung that much...

Oh, BTW - welcome to the "minored at an Area match" club :D I bet it won't happen again :D

    Dave,

Thanks but I wasn't in a hurry to join that club. :P I'm loading Patty's gun at 4.9g of n 320 loaded to 1.200 OAL with 180g Montana Gold JHP. It dropped a little, but she still made major. I do want the box of once fired primers as my prize for closest on the chrono yet not making major. :D:D:lol:

    Update on this:

I went out this morning and took my chrono and my ammo and re-did the data.

The temperature this morning was 42 degrees, with 'feel like' of 38 degrees and sunny.

It was a bit warmer than on Saturday, but not by much. My data from this morning:

    Dec 4th, 2006 10:42 AM 42 degrees & sunny

Might be time to compare my chrono with another brand and see how close they are.

  4. Thanks for the info. I definitely can see that it's a bit more precise than I had anticipated it being. I load my loads, switch the powder and OAL, and then load for my wife. I'm just glad it was mine and not HERS that didn't make it. It would have been a VERY long ride back to Dallas. :)

  5. Titegroup, 4.3 loaded to 1.135 OAL with 180g MG JHP. I shoot a G35 with stock barrel.

The wife's STI Edge made major with Vihta n320. Maybe I'll consolidate and just use one powder for a while.

  6. ..I don't understand why a reasonable margin of error can't be allowed ...
While I don't really agree with the variances, procedures and allowances...there is plenty of error margin built in. Nobody is required to shoot ammo within 5pf of the floor, yet so many do.

    Flex,

I figured if I was making 171 that was enough tolerance and should be fine. I've got no one to blame but bad luck, myself, and COLD weather! :P I 'could' go hotter, but if I only need 165, would be kinda silly to shoot 180-- no biggie, either way. I'm going to rechrono my loads on another CED chrono just to see if the numbers off it are consistent with mine (which ISN'T a CED) or the one at A4.

As far as the margin of error-well, no one can ever say I had special chrono ammo.

No worries. Live and learn. I doubt I'd have beat Dave or BJ either way. ;) I had a great time, felt good about the match, and spent time with a lot of great people.

I get to do it again in 6 months, and I won't change my load. I'd bet ya dollars to donuts it'll make 170. (It'll be like 312 degrees in June in Louisiana!!)

  7. Just want to add my quick .02....... I fondled this gun on the STI table during Area 4 this weekend. It is a SWEET gun for the $$. Kimber and Springfield are gonna sweat this one-- makes me almost want to shoot single stack. (Almost!) :)

  8. Hey, those numbers sure look awfully familiar! :)

    From my last chrono visit:

    Sunday November 12th, 2006 54 degrees WINDY

Glock Factory Barrel Green G35 4.3G-Titegroup 180 MG JHP

    932.5

    931.7

    925.3

    941.5

    936.1

    939.8

    963.6

    942

    945

    939.72 169.15

Guess there is a big difference between 54 degrees and 29, huh? :P:P

I had fun, met some new friends, saw some old friends, and came away learning that Titegroup is a tad temperature sensitive. Who'd a thunk it'd be 29 degrees?

No one to blame but me....but boy, I'm going to have nightmares about those damn things for a while!

  9. I have seen those pics of a Glock.... since they were mine. :)

The barrel split completely in half, bent slide, guide rod, etc..... you get the idea. Wasn't pretty. It was a case of not hearing squib, and doing the 'tap/rack/bang' but getting 'tap/rack/BOOM' instead. Best advice, install a powder checker on the press, just to have piece of mind.

    -Mike

  10. Once you made the grip adjustment, you were rockin' n' rollin'. :)

I guess there ARE some advantages I have being a leftie.... I never even knew there WAS a slide release. Look at the bright side, you now have a borrowed LIMITED Glock to play with. :)

    -Mike

PS... Damn it Harmon, get your backup gun finished so you don't wear them out so fast! :P:P
