  1. Gee- I thought I could say something but it looks like everyone else chimed in already. I have been using 147gn Moly to knock over steel at our matches. works fine in my CZ75B-SA.

    Good on yer'

  2. hi Racer, I would agree on the barrel; however I had already bought the lone wolf. I figured I would return it. however what happened next was seeing on this forum someone who blew out his G21 with a double charge. And then having one of same. no one hurt except the gun and that only partially.

so I held on to the lone wolf and when my G21 arrived we compared the two. the fit of bullet to barrel is better with the lone wolf, and the chamber supports the bullet better. needless to say I kept it. My gunny friends and I shot under 2" groups at 10 yards indoor and I am very pleased. if necessary I will reinstall the original for GSSF matches.

Now on to the sights; I bought a set of Sevigny F.O.'s and a Revolution holster, and one of those Tuff pouches for 5 mags. I cant seem to help myself as that is my standard rig for competitions even tho' I want to keep this gun close to stock as a go to gun in my house.

  3. this thread and a shooter at our steel match; same prob

    weak case

so I just bought a Lone Wolf barrel from Dillon

means I can use my lead and plated bullets in all range picked up brass.

    good thread.

  4. hi ya,

Razor Fish; its almost as cheap to buy as get into casting and smelting unless you have a silver stream nearby. I can pay $75./1,000 for blackbulletsinternational.com

and avoid expense and mess. My wife disliked me doing the smelting anywhere near the house, ditto for casting.

to the moon man, I think I would trust the loading books more than personal recommendations: any lead bullet of same weight carrys same ballistics, coated or not imho.

  5. hi ya, good topic. I think we need to consider what is being shot:

all along I have used 147gn; both my own lead cast, and bought moly and plated.

then I bought some 124gn to see if they are more accurate

however I shoot steel matches and the plates don't fall all the time with 124's

so I am back to 147's

no SW's just XD and CZ in 9mm. fwiw.

    cheers,

  6. you're right it got convoluted:

so I bought a G21, which I have not gotten yet.

and so far I have spent nearly $300 on it; sights, extra mags, weighted guide rod, and now a Lone Wolf barrel. Yesterday's match revealed that previously one shooter blew his G21 with a reloaded bullet. no injury and only damage to receiver which he fixed.

now I need holster and mag holder. all this so I could shoot GSSF (I will take out the guide rod and aftermarket barrel for that, but I prefer to shoot reloads for other uses).

    yawn, its late.

  7. realign the earth, I cant stop laughing.

why do some guys have all the right stuff?

right, I need to lighten up a bit also. I only DQ'd one bloke who shot a hole thru the BBQ we had out on a stage as a prop.

  8. HI Ya CS, I will do that in the next day or two.

    However 56Hawk might be onto something;

the gun is my CZ75B-SA and the barrel looks different than my others; of course every mfr uses what he thinks is the right steel.

My Colt .45acp Gold Cup has no problem with moly coated bullets.

My XD9-Tactical gets some fouling, but nothing like the CZ.

I am thinking that I need to Cryo the barrel?? or as OP says just buy an aftermarket one.

Wait, I have decided to drop out of moly coated in favor of plated or jacketed. I am running out of the last batch I bought anyway.

  9. hi ya all, I appreciate the input however:

today's match with 170 mostly moly coated 147gn 9mm is still a wretched pain.

I use a bronze bore brush, hoppy's, JB paste, Butch's bore shine, Ballistol Oil, right now a bit of mineral spirits.

the lands are still clogged. the bullets are seated well, the fps is under 1,000.

I guess the only answer is change bullets, I just wanted to use up what I have which is probably the last couple of hundred now.

The new ones are Berry's plated 147gn; and 4gn of Auto Comp powder.

  10. Right on Sarge,

I 'pulled the trigger' on a G21 purchase using the GSSF member discount; comes to $486. Minus $50. from match. Bought at LGS comes with three mags. That is if their wholesaler can come up with 3 X 10 round mags, (Kommiefornia). If not I get a discount. total could be $414. net.

Since I plunked my money down so far I have acquired one mag free from a fellow gunny. And I stopped in Glock store.com in San Diego and bought one more.

Now I have to hold on to see what I get. I am not good at waiting soooo

I bought a target sight set and a stainless guide rod.

I really need to stop now.

    my original desire, I need to stick to it;

one, have gun for GSSF matches.

two, Have .45acp alternative to my 1911 (which has 1 1/2# trigger) as home defense gun.

  11. wow, $70. !

I see midwayusa at 115.? and others hovering around that price too.

what I just realized is that with my oal I can now shorten it closer to the Hodgdon book.

instead of Chrony I check the primers for bulge after shooting (old school )

    much obliged,

  12. Hi Ya, nope no chrono, and the local range is indoor. so only chance to chrono is outdoor at a match, if I ask my buddy to bring his. I will check length and take that into consideration.

the reason for loading full is to knock over steel plates. I tried the loads yesterday, 4.3 to 4.8gn cycle well, with no noticeable drop at 20 yards so I am going with that. Especially now that you pointed out the excessive pressure issue:

hodgdon book gives oal at 1.09" on load data allowing 5.3gn of Auto Comp, since I am loading 1.16" oal I am well within the safe area.

    Much obliged,

  13. HI Ya. after 4 years of reloading, casting, and smelting I still don't know why I start low and work up??

    am I worried about pressure?

right now I am concerned that 124gn 9mm doesn't easily knock down texas stars like 147gn, I have 2000 to go thru.

    either gun: CZ75 or XD9
