  1. Been using the 1,1-4x Short Dot LE for about three years now. Have been overall very happy with it. A 1,1-8x Short Dot should be arriving soon and looking forward to seeing what benefit can be gained ( more magnification on some stages / weather conditions will not hurt and that the reticle is in the first plane is good as it is not needed on 1,1x ) Kelly and others who've been over here, here is some footage from the seasons first rifle match, Level III: http://vimeo.com/user3679226 ( first two videos in the link )
  2. Have one on order and it should arrive shortly. MilDot CC reticle and 5.56 mm BDC. Have used the 1,1-4x Short Dot and the 1,1-4x Short Dot LE ( actually says Zenith, it was most likely a very early version, with FD7 reticle ) Much prefer the Short Dot LE, as the dot can be utilized better for longer ranges. Been very happy with the Short Dot LE overall, looking forward to seeing how the new 1,1-8x scope compares, sometimes the extra magnifications could be helpful and as the reticle is in the first focal plane, it is not in the view on 1,1x when not really needed.
  3. The 1-8x Short Dot was not in production in June atleast, I had a pretty long discussion about this with one of the people I know at S&B. Apparently the biggest issue at that time was the combining of the reticle and dot, being in two planes. I tested the 1-6x Swarovski, but I did not see enough benefit to change over to it from the Short Dot Zenith LE. I only see the 6x as a benefit on 200-300 meter stages ( and difficult/bright weather at those ranges ) and those are in the minority. I will keep an eye out for the 1-8x Short Dot though, because I like the fact that the reticle is not visible at 1x and only the dot is there and when you power up, the dot stays small, being in the second plane.
  4. I usually prefer engaging near to far, with some of the reasons given above. One additional thing is that I can engage faster against a nearer target and get the rhythm going. Whether L to R or R to L, depends on the stage design and target placement. But usually if there are targets spaced out wider, I prefer to run L to R, as my body will not be twisted to an uncomfortable position ( left handed shooter )
  5. Just my personal experience, I am left handed, right eye dominant. I shoot both short and long weapons left handed. Shooting SMGs/rifles ( and pistols ) both eyes open has not been an issue, atleast I have not seen it as something that would hinder my performance with long guns, either with iron sights or red dot / variable power scopes. In the Army I shot well in the range quals and due to my civilian shooting background, our instructor was pushing me for a slot in the sniper NCO course, but I declined that offer to go to a another unit. Also shot well in our applied training shoots later on. I shoot both pistol and rifle IPSC at a national level and have top 5 placements in both, and like said above, have not noticed any limitation to my performance from cross eye dominance. The only issue that I ran into to recently was putting a small Burris red dot sight to the lower left side of my S&B Short Dot, there the combination of a large side turret and rear ocular of the scope messed with my eyes and I will put the dot at the top, to 11 o'clock, whilst still maintaining some cheekweld.
  6. No, just the standard 3 piece. I think it is just a matter of breaking in the new bolt carrier & bolt.
  7. Put in the older BM bolt carrier & Colt bolt combo = worked like a charm with S&B 55gr, Lapua 55gr and Barnaul 62gr..
  8. With rifle mags, I prefer bullets rearward / beer can grip. I run the primary spare mag pouch at about 2-3 o clock ( lefty ) at a steep angle, beer canning it from there is the fastest solution for me.
  9. Blade-Tech or California Competition Works mag pouch rotated to an almost 90 degree angle, easier to grab.
  10. Gas block placement has been checked with an endoscope Rifle was not shot in original confguration. Carrier does not bind with the gas tube. I will shoot it today with my old, well shot in, carrier and bolt. That was the suggestion from JP as well. Now, if it does not work then, I believe it might only be leak from the gas tube / gas block area. We had one guy with a problem like this, after plugging the leak, his issues went away.
  11. Hi Patrick, I put the new gas tube back with the JP block.
  12. Hi, New 20" Sabre Defence rifle. Have changed over: YHM customizable tube, KAC semiauto trigger and JP adjustable gas block. The JP gas block was used on my previous 20" Bushmaster rifle without issues. I have tried the JP recommended 0.025" gap between the barrel shoulder and gas block and pretty much also in between 0.012" up to 0.045". The issue is short stroking and I have also tried the full adjustment range of the screw. The JP manual does mention that there is a lot of friction in a new carrier / bolt, could this just be a breaking in period? I believe the rifle now has c. 150 rounds through it. Gas port size is c. 0.095" or 2.4 mm. Ammo tried have been S&B M193 55gr and Lapua 55gr FMJ, both have functioned without issues in my earlier Bushmaster. I have sent JP e-mail with regards to this.
  13. Would be nice to see the U.S. shooters again on this side of the pond. Was great to meet up with Daniel, Robby and the others at the SHOT Show!
  14. I have been using the 1.1-4x24 Zenith Short Dot LE for a few years now, dont run a small red dot sight yet, but might do so in the future. I used the original 1.1-4x24 Short Dot earlier, liked it and it is still a very good scope. Specifically with regards to civilian/IPSC use, what I like about the newer Zenith version is that the second focal plane dot can be utilized to longer ranges than on the older Short Dot, the locking turrets are very easy to use. I prefer the No 7. reticle over the CQB reticle for sporting use. Many of the top guys here have gone over to the 1-6 Swarovski, but I do not have a lot of trigger time on that. Right now I am looking to see S&B introduce the 1-8 Short Dot, examined it at the SHOT Show and will take a look at the newest models at the IWA expo this month. With the dot being in the second focal plane and the reticle in the first, when powering down the reticle is reduced, which I prefer and when powering up the reticle enlarges, but as mentioned with regards to the Zenith Short Dot, the dot can be used to longer distances.
  15. Thanks for the welcome, glad to participate here!
