  1. I highly recommend Milt Sparks holsters. In particular, the IWB models: Watch-6 and Versa-Max II. The W6 is thinner, the Versa-Max II has a reinforce mouth. -z
  2. Got my JP AR10! With Leupold 4.5-14X M1: With TA11 ACOG: -z
  3. For IPSC-type loads, I suggest Titegroup or VV-N320. They are very similar in burn rate. The TG should be about half the cost of the VV. In 9mm I really like 4.2gr TG with a 124gr plated RN. Hodgdon also lists a TG load for 147's.
  4. Someone over on 1911Forum is claiming this has been homologated for Limited Division and is now Limited-legal. http://www.1911forum.com/forums/showthread...5053#post555053 Can anyone confirm? -z
  5. rhino, Close! Since I shoot in Modified/Tactical most often, I'm going to put JP's short-range iron sight there. I've used it with success on my old 3Gun AR. -z
  6. Larger version Looks good and shoots better. Break-in yielded multiple "one hole" groups at 100 yards. The big Leupold scope is just on there for testing; for 3Gun it'll wear a TA11 ACOG. -z
  7. I had the opposite impression of N320 vs. TG. 4.2gr TG with a 124gr West Coast has less blast for me than the equivalent load with N320. -z
  8. What's the twist in that .243? I have a Winchester .243 that looks almost the same. -z
  9. I've tried the "entry"-length stock, but found it WAY too short. -z
  10. Kurt, Too late! Armalite called today and said their backorder was filled and they were on their way. Oh well. -z
  11. A titanium BHP with a 1911 trigger system. Ultimate hi-cap 9mm carry gun (for me) ?
  12. So you'd suggest putting the sight block just rear of the comp? -z
  13. George, Regarding the front sight base, I'm not sure it's that. He said it looked just like their adjustable gas block and would take the standard post-style removable front sight. Mickster, My plan is to convert some of my M1A mags using the conversion kits (mag body + follower stuff) from Armalite. -z
  14. With a couple bonuses coming due, I finally ordered a JP AR10 (.308). It's the 20" Lightweight version. For shooting He-Man class, what are some good iron sights to use? Tim@JP suggested we mount a second weaver block just beyond the float tube (which covers the actual gas block) as a base for a removable front sight. For precision shooting, is the Leupold M1 3.5x-10 (or M1/MKIV) a good choice? -z
  15. Well, let's see 'em. Bring out your battle rifles! Here's a picture from the 2001 FAL Shoot in Colorado - don't have any of just the gun: -z
  16. So I take it this is considered a long/wide frame? Everything else equal, how would that pistol shoot/feel compared to one with a short/wide dustcover, e.g. ? thanks Zak
  17. Erik, Roger on getting a local guy to tune it up. Not sure if that's feasible yet. How can I visually distinguish a "wide" frame from the regular "long" frame? -z
  18. While I was talking to someone at JP about my AR/CTR order, he said that SV's are basically good to go from the factory. If the gun I'm getting is relatively standard, what will a 'smith do that SV won't? -z
  19. Which grips are the slimmest (or with rounded corners) from the factory? It looks like the choices are default SV (checkered), Alfaro stipple, and Scotts. I understand I can have a custom 'smith build me one up from scratch, or buy a factory-built SV with maybe some trigger work from someone like SpeedShooters or JP. Which is likely to be the better option for me? thanks Zak
  20. Buy her a gun. Take her out to look at a bunch, find one she likes that fits her, and buy it. It's her gun. Seriously. We spend just tons of money on guns, mags, holsters, hear, etc. Our competition guns cost $1500 - $3000, we have $800 reloading setups, and we go through $100 of ammo a week (easy). A $600 gun for your spouse is nothing in comparison, and she'll enjoy shooting more than if she's always shooting "your stuff." Shooting informally without other people focussed on her is probably a good idea too, until she is more confident. -z
  21. I've found that anything larger than a Dillon or Bagmaster ("Pro Shooters Bag", I think) get too heavy when loaded down with ammo. -z
  22. I've never tried N340, My standard load is 4.2gr Titegroup with a 124gr West Coast plated RN at about 1.135" nominal. At should be about 1060fps. I've also tried a similar load with N320 but the TG is softer, cheaper and has less flash. -z
  23. I thought regular .40 SV/STI mags would work fine with 10mm.
  24. caspian28r, When you say, "get a long/wide STI or SV". I understand what you mean by "long" - the long dustcover that extends to the muzzle. What do you mean by "wide"? As for mags, Erik Warren hooked me up with some of his 140mm STI mags. It's good to hear about TG - I use it extensively in both 9x19 and .45. thanks Zak
