I know the dates won't please everyone but there is a lot to consider. There is a match every weekend in April and May, ans also the NRA show to consider. The only available weekend in those two months besides the dates picked was my daughters high school graduation(not going to miss that). The venue has other events to consider as well. When the pro matches for 3 gun nation and all the rest of the matches get posted I am sure there will be a lot more overlapping of matches as well. Sorry if the dates inconvenience anyone but those are the dates for the match. We did not purposely put the date the same as the Colorado match, that's just how it fell. I hope there match as well as the shotgun match fills up. That just means we are growing the sport. Only other available dates were in July and the first week of August which is the same as the Rocky Mountain match. We are not doing July like last year. We want people to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about heat exhaustion.

Yes these dates are firm. I have talked to Nick and Nate and these dates great for everyone.

The dates for the 2013 Benelli/Rockcastle Shotgun Championship will be April 5th and 6th. This will be a two day match packed with fun stages. You will shoot 9 stages a day for a total of 18 stages. Stages will posted sometime in February. Round count will be posted in January. Registration will open December 15th. I will update more on here until the official website is updated which will be around the first of December. The match will be shot on Friday and Saturday with awards being Saturday night. If for some circumstance we encounter bad weather we will use Sunday morning as a make period with awards being around noon. I don't foresee the weather as an issue because all the stages will have easy access to them from the roads. Lighting is about the only thing we will stop for. Hope to see everyone there. Last years match went great and we expect this year to be even better.

April 5th and 6th

We are having our annual championship tac rifle match on November 3rd. We will be shooting 5 stages for the one day match. All information can be found at creeksidefiringrange.com The match has filled the last four years fairly quick. We are offering to competitors to shoot on Saturday the 3rd or Friday the 2nd. We are working with some great sponsors and will have a great prize table for a $60.00 entry.

You should spend about $12.00 in slugs on stage 7. Very simple, straight forward 10- 35 yards.

Stages are shaping up nice. I have talked Rockcastle and they are going to have golf cart rentals available on a first come basis. They have a limited number available. The cost is $30.00 a day. You need to call Rockcastle Shooting Center during the daytime hours and reserve one if you are interested. You don't have to rent one to get to the stages but it makes it easy and you don't have tom keep getting in and out of your vehicle at every stage.

No no-shoot clays. No need for a cart. Every stage is very accessible. You may have to walk about 50 yards to 2 stages. Guys and gals, I am heading to Rockcastle tomorrow for the match. The slugs are 1 hit in the A or C Zone or 2 hits on paper using classic targets(there 24 of them). 2 hits on steel(there are 3 of them). If you choose not to aim and go for 2 slugs on paper then yes you will shoot a lot more slugs than most shooters.

Largest round count for a stage is 26. Stages are done for the website, we are writing the stage descriptions and they will be posted by the weekend. Well to be honest, I tried to draw up the stages on the computer and I completely trashed it. I am giving the stages to a friend this week so he can draw them up on a nice format for the website. Don't want to post up crappy diagrams. Should be up sometime next week.

Quite the PT as most shotgun matches don't see a lot of running with all the walking while loading. Plus exercise is just unamerican anyways, lol! Pattern your shotgun with your buckshot. Know the group size from 7-30 yards with an IC, M or LM and a Full choke at various distances. Practice shooting shoot plates with very tight, touching, and even overlapping no shoot plates along side them. Do the same thing with shoot and no shoot clays. If you have different size steel targets available to you go out and determine the max effective range of several chokes on each target. Very good info for this match. Sounds like Jesse has been practicing the right things for this match. Thanks. Looks like I have some more things to work on.

There are some long courses ranging between 22-26 rounds. There be an equal number of short, medium and long courses.

Slug shots will not exceed 70 yards and all slug targets are IPSC classic and A/C zone metal.

We have been picking the stage sights this weekend at Rockcastle. Stage designs will be up in a week or so. Round count is as follows but could change by a few rounds once the stages are put it. Birdshot-253 Slugs-30 Buckshot-25 One target that is optional with bird or buck.
