  1. Well for those of us her in The Golden State, we have had a forum called CALGUNS.NET for a long time but the infrastructure was neglected pretty bad. Trying to update it has resulted in it being down for almost a week and counting.

Someone, with the encouragement of the Redit universe, created a new community called CAGUNS.NET  and it is taking off like a rocket -  https://caguns.net/

So if you are looking for a forum that is dedicated to the 2A issues unique to California, check it out.

I’m finding I like the fast slides so I’m leaning away from the 34.  Which leaves the 17/47 or 45 - any preference in return to zero or recoil impulse?

Living in CA, the 45 is not available to us so I didn't think about it but that would be an interesting choice.

Thanks for the feedback - can you share a bit more on what the mistake was with the 34?

The only advantage to the 34 is longer sight radius - pretty much negated with a dot

I think I last logged on about four years ago.  I joined in 2001.  Amazing and crazy cool the forum is still going!

It's changed a little bit but still kicking

Yesterday, I was doing a search for “SL900”  over at the trapshooter’s forum.  One of the threads I found, somebody had contacted Ponsness Warren to ask about automating an SL900.  Supposedly, their response was “Yeah, sure, send me your machine and we’ll see if we can get it to work.”

The guy commenting in that thread said P/W never would quote him a price.  So he never sent them his SL900

    PW isn't the only option

they are both minor scored, slide mounted optic, 140mm mag divisions.. whats the difference ? a hair shorter trigger reset and a mag funnel in a 25 round gun ?
Thats a far cry from the difference between production and limited...

Trigger  - SA vs DA  .  Same difference between Prod & Ltd

The rest of the nonsense is made up / decided ; mag capacity, mag length, mag wells, etc

Bingo!  LO in SCSA is wasted effort with no big picture impact.

I'd much rather see BOD focus on topics with a tangible outcomes on:

    • Shooter retention
    • Improving SCSA RO Cert process
    • SCSA Club assistance
    • Youth SCSA growth

So you agree that the current BoD lacks the ability to see the big picture, focus on more than one thing at a time and seems to only think about the SCSA when one of the people they like brings it up ?

As I've said earlier in this thread and in other similar threads, there is NO DIFFERENCE between frame mounted and slide mounted dots when shooting minor ammo without ports or a comp.  Nada.  There is a difference in major.  That being said, I shoot with two guys who shoot Open major with slide mounted dots and comps.  Zero issues.

I don't understand the requirement for a slide mounted dot in LO.  Years ago, my home club did not allow compensators in their outlaw matches.  I fitted a normal barrel to my main Open gun.  It shot to the same POI as my major ammo.  I just shot factory in it.

I built a dedicated 1911 Open gun for SCSA.  I used WAC for 150 PF loads, because that's what the other Open shooters were doing.  Now I use factory 115s.  For one shot targets, the tiny bit more muzzle rise makes no difference.  It is much quieter, cheaper and I'm starting to shoot better with it.

    1) Agreed

    2) Follow the money - only the custom guns are coming with frame mounted dots.  All the mass produced stuff has a slide optic option.  Catering to the gun makers is what's driving this.

    3) Started out with this set up. If you only plan on SC, it's way better. Cheaper mags for sure

    I splurged.

    I bought a Dillon SL900.

It is light years ahead of my Mec 9000GN.

The hull feeder + the tip out wad guide means your right hand can stay on the roller handle the whole time.

I had to make a few minor tweaks here and there, but I am anxious to try out my first 25 shells that came off the SL900.

Once the “test drive” goes okay later this week, then I can really start cranking ‘em out.

    🙂

I like mine. It's the second one I've had.

One of these days I will get around to automating it to save the wear and tear on my shoulder.

Found some Sierra 69 gr. HPBT-Match bullets that I forgot I had. I can't remember loading any of them so I have no data.

Looking to load them for a 18" & 20" AR I have. Both are 1/8 & Wylde chambers. Both are rifle gas.

    Thanks in advance

what do you have for powder?

  11. It happens when data is transferred

Something is  interpreting the textual data as latin-1 or windows-1252, and not UTF-8.

"°" is what you get if you take the UTF-8 bytes for "°" (0xc2 0xb0) and interpret each byte as a character of latin-1 or windows-1252.

Or so the internet says .........................

  12. A couple of weeks ago I slipped and fell and reached out to break my fall and in the process broke my hand.

The x-ray was inconclusive to the urgent care doc but the orthopedic hand guy at Keck saw it right away.  No nerve damage so at least there is that.

3-6 weeks in a splint. I tried holding a gun and the rifle / shotgun is a no-go.  I can only imagine the pain from a handgun.

All you have to do is put a 5/16 OD rubber O ring around the back of the firing pin where the hammer hits. This saves wear & tear on the firing pin, spring, hammer, and cylinder.  The gun will dry fire as normal. One O ring will go for thousands of hits. This works for all calibers, unlike snap caps. It also will prevent an AD if you load the gun and forget it's loaded. Remove the O ring to shoot live ammo. Nothing else is cheaper, simpler, or works as well.

can you post a picture of that ?

  14. I think the real goal should be for the BoD to listen to those who shoot the division and not those who don't.

And as we all know, trying to figure out who the BoD, as it is currently made up, does listen to is a fools errand, at best.
