Nice Ron!

FWIW, last year I drove down to the Port of Jacksonville to take the family on a cruise. Once I was already inside the gate I saw the sigh that said no firearms (or weapons...don't remember). I told the girl at the gate that I had a couple guns in the car and asked if I should just go park in the other lot outside the gate? She said no, just park over there and we'll have one of our officers come talk to you. He was cool, unloaded them, ran the serial numbers, then said to leave them unlocked in the console of the truck and have a nice cruise. I wouldn't count on being that lucky and wouldn't suggest bringing guns into a port area like some dufus did.
Yeah, you sounded VERY lucky.

If all that you have planned so far does not work out, PM or email me and I will help you figure out something secure with a cop down that way. ESp if your cruse leaves out of Miami.
This community never ceases to amaze me.
+1000, that place is the best. No other forums I have dealt with comes even remotely close.
I think I have a plan. I truly appreciate all the help. If anyone ever needs help from someone in Maryland please don't hesitate to contact me.
I meant to say THIS place is the best...can't seem to edit it now.

What's the typical round count for this match?
Last year it was 313.
Thanks.

It's a Disney cruise prior to the FL Open. I have a call in to Frank Garcia to see if I can ship it to him. I called Disney to see if I could give them the gun prior to boarding so they could lock it in a lockbox, after 5 minutes on hold the answer was "Definitely no, they will call the police if you come even close to the ship with a gun."
-
Once I divulge the vacation host it'll all make sense.
I called an FFL in the area to see if I could ship the gun to them, and pick it up before the match and they were stupidied by my question, so I called the match host and am awaiting a call back, thanks for the suggestion Flex.

I am not allowed to bring guns to the vacation, per the vacation host, and I will not have a hotel while gone on vacation. Any ideas?
is this only for complete guns or also gun parts??
I was told law enforcement would be called immediately if I bring a gun near the vacation, so I don't even want to ask those specifics.
-
Nope, no buddies going to the match. And no, I'm not leaving the car near the match.
Would it be possible to ship it to an FFL dealer near the match and pick it up prior to the match?
-
Also my car will remain unattended while I'm gone for a few days.

For opsec reasons I don't want to give too much detail. I'm shooting a match soon, but first I have to drive there and take the family on a vacation that will take me away from my car. I have no good way to secure my competition gun, and gear, while I'm off on the vacation. I know this is vague, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to secure my gun?

So far I'm having good luck with the Remington Dummies from Brownellls. They are showing to be much more durable than anything else I have tried.
I've went through the Brownells catalog with a fine-toothed comb, and searched their website without success. Also checked Midway and Remington's website and can't find them there. Help?
Do a search for DUMMY
no joke!
Thanks, I'm unsure how I missed them previously.

With the 1100 you need to slow down the shell that's exiting the mag tube. If you don't, the shell in front of the shell exiting the mag tube will hit the latch at full force and will usually put a dent on the rim.
The latch on the 1100 is relatively small (when compared to a Benelli). The same amount of force on a smaller surface area results in the 1100 eating up shell rims faster than a Benelli.
When I used to run an 1100 I unloaded with my fingers in the ejection port --- I pull the bolt handle partly out, insert my fingers through the ejection port and then fully retract the bolt. The shell that is comming out of the mag tube will hit my fingers as it comes out. It prevents the shells from hitting the latch at full force.
Good stuff, thanks for the info.

My Remington 1100 chews up the rim of the dummie shells rather quickly to the point that the shells will not reliably feed. I'm trying to practice my reloads for 10 minutes a day. I've tried both the dummy shells and the aluminum snap caps. Is this typical? If so, do you just bite the bullet and buy new dummies once a month?

Update: The Nordic follower really smoothed the feeding, and then a Nordic extension tube smoothed it out even further, so I'm good to go. I also learned the gun does not like Winchester Valu-Pak shells, so if I avoid those it runs 100%. Thanks for the help.

the nordic aluminum follower is awesome.
That's nice, I ordered one, thanks for the suggestion. I'll check the tuning of my EasyLoader too.
While you are waiting on the aluminum follower, something you may want to try to see if it is the follower is this. Take the follower that came with the ext tube and run some fine grit sandpaper and/or a scotch brite pad over it to smooth it out a bit, and possibly shrink the diameter down a little.
At the least you have not lost anything and at the most, you have a backup follower and may eliminate the follower as the issue.
On a side note,
I have not had any issues with the follower in my Choate tube hanging, not working, or bits breaking off in my 1100 so far. I have the 9 round Choate and it has worked flawlessly from day one so YMMV. *shrug*
I tried working on the smoothness and diameter of the Choate follower last night and the fine sandpaper I had wasn't working well. I may see what the hardware store has that'll do the job better because I really would like to have that ready as a backup.

Real good stuff, I appreciate all the thought provoking info. This 1100 mag tube/gas system is steel, but it's clean and free of corrosion; this is an oldie, but it's been well cared for and it's low mileage. The mag tube spring is fairly new, and it's the Choate one that came with the mag extension, so it's plenty long. I cannot run the Choate follower because it hangs up in the mag tube (not the mag tube extension) [NOTE TO SELF: perhaps the mag tube is tight], so I'm been running the stock synthetic follower which looks pretty rough.
First I'm going to order a stainless follower and see if that clears up the problem. Any recommendation? I see Brownells has the Vang unit and a Brownells one as well.
Secondly I may change out the mag tube extension with a longer one because right now all it can only hold 7+1, any recommendations on brands?

1970's vintage Remington 1100 that has seen little use is randomly not feeding from the tube, and resumes feeding after pushing the rearmost shell into the tube (that shell seems hard to press in). I've tried diagnosing this through dry fire, but it's only seen maybe once every 20+ times I load the tube. And it's not the first shell fed that iniates the failure to feed. Any advice? The gun has been completed disassembled and detail cleaned all to no avail. The gun has a short Choate mag tube extension and a DMW easy-loader, but otherwise is stock.

That's good to know, thanks. I run Safariland's, but haven't been 100% happy with them.
