  1. I shot this one this past Sunday in Limited. 5.13 sec, 59 points, for a HF of 11.5. Comes out to be 97% in Limited. This should take me to Master. This stage really played off my strength: close targets that need to be shot fast.

  2. I typed a bunch of stuff and then realized I was just trying to sound polite while saying my stuff is the best. Why bother?

My stuff is the best. :)

Seriously, my first book and a timer will take a dedicated, curious shooter a long, long, way. For some, a video based system may be better...

+1, along with Brian's book and self-study of GM's technique

  3. My Super 1050 abruptly has a lot of resistance about halfway down on the downstroke. Sometimes it's so bad I need to get two hands on the handle to continue the downstroke. This is a new thing, it didn't used to do this. I can run it without any cases on the shellplate and it still does it. I took off the toolhead and when I operate the handle everything works smoothly. The guide rods on the toolhead apear to be lining up just fine with the holes through the shellplate, and nothing is in their way. Any ideas?

  4. I was getting ready for the VA/MD Section match, which I shoot tomorrow, and I noticed my slide is cracked. It's an STI slide, nothing but major loads shot through it, approximately 25k rounds on it. The gun has a bull barrel.

Do you think this is repairable? I'm assuming STI would not replace it, correct?

  5. Ok, here's the story. Planning a 3 or 4 day vacation with just the wife this summer, and we are thinking it'll be VT/NH, with possibly a trip up to Montreal. When we travel I like to see something gun related, for instance we recently returned from NYC and while there we stopped into Holland & Holland's showroom, which was very cool. So I'm thinking a nice gun showroom, gun museum, or a particularly interesting gun shop. I will not be traveling with my competition guns, so matches are ruled out. Any suggestions?

  6. Steve,

I love Refinement & Repetition, I really feel like it took me far in 2005/2006 before life changing events caused me to take a hiatus from serious competition. I'm now working my way back up, and have always wondered why in some of your drills you do not want the trigger to be pressed? Is this to save time? Or wear on the gun?

  7. Hello: We have a couple of guys here using 220 grain lead bullets. They are using Winchester 231 or HP-38 Hodgdon. They are loading them to 1.180" OAL. in 6" pistols. They are going to try WSF next so I have been told. Thanks, Eric

Good info, thanks. It seems odd to me that they're shifting to a slower powder...makes me wonder if they had pressure problems.

  8. What overall cartridge length are you using? And does your grease ring on the bullet show when loaded? Roughly where does this load strike the target (elevation) at 25 yards compared to say a 180 grain minor pf load?

    1.135"

No, the grease ring is not visible.

You got me on the third question...it's been a long time since I've shot 180's.

  9. I LOVE S&S Casting's 220 gr lead bullet, but the powder I've been using for the past 50k rounds is no longer available in the US, and I'm almost out. Gone are my days of super competitiveness (new word!) so I'm not looking for the ragged-edge-of-safety fastest powder for these bullets, rather I was hoping for an economical and clean powder that's slow enough to allow for a decent margin of safety. I was thinking of IMR 7625, but would welcome a better option. Suggestions?
