  1. I would rate from fastest to slowest---pistol,rifle and then shotgun. The rifle would pull ahead past 15yds or so. I shot a field course with rifle and pistol a couple weeks ago with targets out to about 10yds and I was slighty faster with the pistol. My splits are never as fast with the rifle and it has a 2# JP trigger. I think the shotgun will always be the slowest unless maybe a steel stage with no reloads. YMMV

  2. I feel the same as Brian. I have had many years without winning anything but I keep shooting and practicing. When it comes together it really feels like you earned it.

We have a local club that puts on a 3 gun match now and then. The problem is you are only allowed one award.Say you win the match and the rifle, shotgun and handgun stages ---you would get high overall money but nothing for the other 3 things you won.It goes down the line to whoever didn't win anything yet. Could be 4th in rifle gets the cash.

Does that bother me--Yes because did 4th place  shoot up 500 rds practicing (maybe) or did he just show up and get lucky?Should 4th be paid over 1st?People get to the top by practice and shooting large quantities of ammo. You guys know that isn't cheap.

I am well aware of the desires of the club to make everybody happy but hey we are big boys and we know how these things work.Award the WINNERS. Have a random drawing for other things but pay the people that are winning the match.

I know some people will never be in a position to place in a match and I will  never be a Todd or Robbie but when your time does come you don't want it taken from you.

  3. I have been running a 10# spring in my 40 SV Limited gun for 3 years. I never told anyone because I thought they would say I was CRAZY. I knew it, everyone one else is crazy,it's not me,yeah that's it.:o

  4. One other thing to check ---make sure your forearm nut is tight and if the gun has been disasembled check that the washers(? can't remember exactly what's in there without looking) in the forearm are in the correct position according to a manual.

  5. I recommend an Armalite or DPMS flattop 20" gun. I like the quality of these 2 manufacturers. The Armalite comes with a legal muzzle break and DPMS may be able to install one of their brakes when ordered.

With a 20" barrel it is easier to make minor at a match. With a flattop you can you a scope or add a carry handle for limited.Stay away from the bull barrels. They can be VERY heavy. With DPMS you can order a gun built the way you want for a reasonable price. You could order the 20" Hbar barrel, free float handguard, JP trigger and muzzle brake. That would make a nice package.

    Good Luck!

  6. A couple things to look for:

Benellis like a lot of oil

Have you added anything? The heavier they get the less they work.

Does it have a side saddle or speed loader bracket? The screw could be too tight binding the receiver.

My gun was a little finicky and I replaced the spring inside the bolt and it works great now.

You can also put Wolff reduced power recoil and hammer springs in.Mine works with heavy trap loads and Federal tactical slugs and buck. I have been told the more they break in the better they work.

  7. I have found that Neco's Moly Slide (I believe that name is correct) is even better than chippylube. It is VERY slick. The High Power rifle shooters such as David Tubb use this stuff a lot from what I understand.

  8. The place I get the delrin from is MSC 800-645-7270. I use .500 black delrin rods.

    1ft #63383814---$.97

    4ft #63383822---$3.85

    8ft #63383830---$7.68

I thread the rod and tap the handle so the rod screws in. It isn't perfect because the handle is tapered but it works and you can unscrew it if you want to replace with a different length or whatever.I forget the length I use but you want the rod to just leave the tube as the last round starts into the gun. You may have to open up the loader tube hole just a hair with the .500 rod but it will be a perfect fit.

  9. I have tried the birdcage type and my impression is the multi port comps work best (kinda like on the pistols). You also want to make sure there are no bottom ports that will kick up dust when prone.

  10. I have used the Armalite brake on a couple guns and they work well. These will probably do better than the two you mentioned. DPMS sells one that Jerry Miculek designed and it looks similar to Armalites. I think JPs work the best but are not legal in limited (ugly too).

  11. NiK,

try to get some Tactical (low recoil) slugs and buckshot. Thay are a big help. You can find them at ammoman.com. I use these and winchester 7 1/2 heavy trap loads.USANA says they are going to start having shotgun side matches. Is that where you are going?Glad to see some "locals" on here.
