  1. I had one of the early ones to come out. It was a nice buget 1911. For what you got for the money it was well worth it. Big problems I saw with it were, grips screws(metric or standard didn't seem to fit rite),and front strap checkering( very, very shallow on sides) and thats about it. My brother bought one and had the 2piece guide rod shoot out the front of it after just a few shots. The threads were stripped and he called Taurus to get a new one set to him. They wanted him to send the gun in just to replace the part. He had to do alot of talking to finally get them to just send it to him. I would still recommend the PT1911 for new shooter on a buget. Just my 2cents Scott
  2. I've seen 2 write ups on them and both said good things about them. I don't remember exactly where I saw them though. I think one was in American Handgunner but just don't remember. I would be wanting to see what extra mags would cost. Scott
  3. Just wanted to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS. Hope you all get that special something to help you shoot straiter or faster. Scott
  4. I just got my CR belt this week and already knew of the problem they have with their loose pouches from a friend. I got the industreal velco and put a piece on the inside of the pouch loop, Then take a piece of hard thin plastic like from a see through package you got something in and cut it down to where it will slip into the loop. I tryed to use a piece that had a 90 degree on it so it wouldn't slip back out as I slid it on. I made 4 of them so I could get them all on and put the belt on then see exactly where I wanted them. Once I got them there I just removed the belt and pulled the pieces out and they're stuck. I still put some on the back side so I have more surface contact on the inner belt too. The plastic seems to work the best as it is slick and will conform alittle to help when first getting start on the belt. Scott Ah, put velcro on the inside and outside. Great call. I'll give that a shot (NPI) next weekend.
  5. I believe you're correct. But it's pointless to produce a frame if you can't reliably get grips for it. The mould to make the grips is $$$$. Yup. The reason SV did the Aluminum thing is their deal to use the STI mould expired. Major bucks for the mould................. JT SV's deal for grips expired years ago and SV was buying their grips from brownells rather than sti. Their design on the metal grips are different than the way sti makes the aluminum grip. For those who wish to make their own frames..go ahead if you have the tooling and expertise. but can you do it and be prifitable is the question. As far makeing frames for your own use, that is no problem. There are rules in the atf for just that as long as you never sell them you can make all the frames you want. 1 guy in our club has done just that..just to see if he could. As far as the deal for the grips expiring and the mould being expensive.. I have noticed and have mentioned before that the quality of the grips in polymer has been going down for a while. Some wont drop free the mags, the trigger channels have burrs, the holes arent as smooth and finished as they once were. OK, I've read all the posts here and see a trend on some of them. Some of you say that the STI quality has been going down. Now my question is, Do you think a frame that cost $100 to $300 less is going to have better quality? Yes the Chinese can probably do it for less and have close to the same quality on some of their stuff. But let me ask you this. How many Chinese companies do you see sponcering matches or donating prizes at matches. Just my 2cents Scott
  6. So what everyone is saying is, Theirs alot of theories out there. I think I'll just hand thumb it and fix it if it starts going bad. Thanks guys Scott
  7. WOW. All I did was ask a question and opened up a hole new can of worms. Thanks for the replies guys. I think I got enuff here to get something worked out. Scott
  8. Hi, I recently bought a used STI Edge with a 1 1/2 pound trigger group in it. The seller told me to never manually cock the hammer as this will damage the sear. I have talked to a couple other people and they say they never heard of this but didn't really know if it was true. Could someone help with this as it's more of a pain to have to rack the slide every time when dryfirering but I will do it if manualy cocking hurts it. Thanks Scott
  9. They do get pretty cold and the mags seem to run out faster so I'll give it a try. Thanks Scott
  10. Hi, I have a Western Arms Vickers Tactical pistol and I.m having a problem with it. It doesn't want to go to slide lock anymore. It's had less than 400 bb's through it so that shouldn't be a problem. I am running it on propane but with light silicone oil. You can pull the slide back on a empty mag and it will lock but not when shooting it empty. Thanks Scott
  11. As far as long guns go, you can ship them USPS. Pistols are a different story. You will have to ship them UPS or Fedex overnight. Not cheap. Make sure you do not write "GUNS" on the box and absolutly no ammo in the box with them. You must ship them to a FFL and request a signed copy of his FFL with the payment before shipping. You also need to make sure that the buyers FFL will except from non FFLs. Make sure the weapon or mags are legal to where you are shipping them.(i.e. no NYC or Chicago) Seems like alot to go through but it isn't really that bad once you do it. Hope it helps. Scott
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. Like I said,"just didn't know why". But the slide lightning does look cool. Thanks Scott
  13. I'm new anddon't have a close range but I'm starting to shoot more airsoft to make up for it. I would like to get up to atleast 200 a week but well see. Scott
  14. OK, I have a question about something that has me puzzled. I see many guns have their slides lightened. I take it thats done for faster lock times. But doesn't this cause more muzzle flip. Ok now the other end of it. I also see guys running tungsten guide rods to help with muzzle flip. So do you run both, the lightened slide and tungstun guide rod or just one of them? Just a new guy trying to understand some of this stuff. Thanks Scott
  15. What lead bullit are you loading to make Maj. with WSF? Thanks Scott
  16. Where were you 2 hrs ago?lol. I do thank you for your reply and once I get my funds back up I may still try them out. Thanks Scott
  17. And this is my big brother standing up for me? Something just doesn't seem rite about that but then I am screwy. Just ordered CR speeds from Brownells I do like facing forward pouches but between the price for Limcat and Guda and the unknown produce of the Speedsec and Ghost I will do with the CR's for now Thanks for the replyes guys Scott
  18. The thing is, I prefer a facing out mag and CR doesn't have this option. Or do they? Thanks Scott
  19. I did a search and really can't find anything on them here. I like that you can run them cross or facing out but don't know about their mounting methed. Looking to use them on a Limited rig. I'm just on a buget so can't really go for the Guda or Limcat rite now. It's ether going to be Ghost or Speedsec for now. Any help would be great. Thanks Scott
  20. This may get moved to a different place but I don't see anywhere else to put it. OK, I was looking for mag pouches and ran across this place. Prices are really good on some things and shipping is free. Problem is, some of the stuff they don't make anymore like STI para tubes. My question is. Has anyone ever ordered from them resently or is this just an old site that never got taken down? thanks Scott
  21. Thanks For the reply Chuck. Since I don't even have the gun yet (should be here tommorrow) I haven't see how it's been modified. The S&A just doesn't look near as big as the DP. I thought I might put a DP on it or I really wanted to try and find someone that had an DP Ice for it. Well, Anyway thanks Scott
  22. Well I'm 43 now so looking back, I'de say I was about 43 when I started. CAMO
  23. OK. I got a used P16 coming and got a question about it. It has a S & A magwell on it and I know you have to modify the frame alittle to get it to fit. Now my question is, Can you still put a Dawson magwell on it or not? Thanks Scott
  24. I was just wondering why Dawson doesn't make the Ice for the PARAs anymore. I know 2011s are the cats meow now but some of us still like the Paras and need good quality parts for them. I'm new to the game so maybe i missed something thats been said before but I would really like to see these again. Thanks Scott
  25. CAMO66

    Para Ice?

Does anyone know why Dawson doesn't make an Ice Magwell for Para's anymore? I called them and the gal there said they had stopped making them before she went to wotk there and she didn't know why. I'm just wondering if their was a problem with them or if it was a lack of demand thing. Thanks CAMO
