  1. I'm not sure I follow here, are you saying that going from muzzle down to pointing to a side berm could be a DQ? or from muzzle up to side berm? Or saying that if you case the PCC with the muzzle down, you would DQ? In essence, it states "while casing" so you would already be at the berm or within a reasonable distance, sleeve or bag it while it's pointing at the berm. Please elaborate. Thanks.

  2. 1) Yes, absolutely. I welcome all comments that will keep everyone safe and make me a better/safer shooter. Also, safety warnings are allowed by the stage ROs per rule 8.6.1.

    2) Good idea. If they can't be mature enough to accept constructive comments, well they need to grow up. Sometimes during the heat of a run, we all lose a few IQ points.

Also, just a comment, they either DQ'ed or they didn't, call what you see - nothing more, nothing less.

  3. The OP situation seems pretty clear that the MD attempted to compel shooter movement without the basis of a true safety issue - taking your word for that since I was not there. This goes all against 1.1.5 so not good. So a Forbidden Action, which must be specified in the WSB, is only used when such movement will likely result in an unsafe condition. That is solely a judgement call by the official so  was there any explanation as to what made the movements likely unsafe? Were there holes in the ground? Debris? Maybe standing water where a slip/fall was likely? Can you expand on this?

On the situation with GregJ, that is more of a "Off-Limits" area, not a Forbidden Action, and must be clearly defined in the course along with put in the WSB and that is okay and advisable in a lot of situations like that. Also, the penalty for each is quite different so getting the correct declaration is important.

No I will not release the name of the match on here. That’s not good for them or me. I ask these questions just to better my ability as staff. I will start another thread for the other questionable call

Would you answer the questions so it is clear on the call (the match is irrelevant)? This is a learning forum also and it would help out others and possibly the match club in question. Thanks.

  5. Yeah, I got that part Sarge but I want to get the rest of the story from the OP. Even if we don't know which match it was, if someone from that club reads this and learns something from it to produce better matches (well, this goes for anyone really), then all is well.

This was not my club and I will not go back

So did they make the correct scoring call? If not, what did they call? Can you list some examples of the other questionable calls you referenced? This isn't very clear so far..

I'm not trying to stir up anything, just want to use it as a training tool for others.

  7. It has long been a standard that "standing" is synonymous with "standing erect", although the latter phrase is technically incorrect. Standing does mean erect but since everyone tries to game stages, the standing erect (as noted in 8.2.2 and start positions) is there to further clarify. I am really surprised there wasn't an RO around to ensure the consistently in the start position. Start positions are not freestyle and the WSB can be modified at any time to clarify it even more if need be.

Or someone didn’t think to shoot it that way. You have no idea how many times I’ve set up a stage and figure out all the safe ways to shoot it only to see someone do something completely out of the realm of my thought process. It’s why multiple sets of eyes are so important.

    +1

  9. The only rules that relate to that is about the physical construction, shooters being "forced to act in any manner which might cause unsafe action", and "safe angles of fire". As long as it at or beyond the 90 degree median intercept angle, it should be a safe angle. As long as the possible shots will not leave the berms, strike something that could be dangerous, or something along those lines, it should satisfy these rules also. It is the shooter's responsibility to keep their muzzle downrange. I see so many shooters trying to push beyond their capabilities so that is where most of the problems exist. Every shooter must understand their limitations and think safety before hit factor. Don't get me wrong, I do understand about courses that may seem a little unfair but every shooter must come up with a good plan that will account for those issues. And as always, if you see a safety issue, make it known right away to an official.

  10. I would be careful, I'm sure you know this but pressure is not linear. Because we are already close to the limits of a 9mm case, I would work it up very slowly if you decide to go that route. Personally, I would have the chamber lengthened. Just solves so many problems. And usually you get better feeding reliability with longer OALs for 9mm rounds in 2011 platforms.

  11. Sil is a great powder but had two con areas for me when I was testing it. One - it was inverse temperature sensitive so know your temps and what to expect for PF for different temperatures. If you normally shoot in temperature stable place, then no worries. It also seemed to very from lot to lot quite often so always chrono your loads between lots. Two- the yellow residue left behind in the gun was annoying to me. It seemed to get the gun dirtier than I wanted in those all day long matches but not a huge deal. All in all, a great Open powder but HS6 is still my favorite.

I did the chrono testing for this load when the outside temperature was 38 to 40 degrees F. Could that have affected the velocity I got?

I doubt it. I chrono'ed mine in the 40's up to the 90's and it was always +/- 2 PF. Some barrels are just slow so that may be it. My old STI Trubor (I think T2) was that way. My load was like your load...8.5gr with a MG 124 resulting in an ~170 PF. I shot in the East Coast, mid-West, and West Coast (Utah and Nevada) and again, HS6 was very consistent and I never failed chrono.

  13. I used to run 8.5 in my old STI (with 2 popples and MG 124) to get 170 but in my newer guns with KKM barrels (5" and no popples), I'm using 8.1 to get 170. All loaded to 1.170. I have probably put 50K+ through my guns of HS6 and never had an issue. It's a little dirty but it feels the best of all the powders I have tried (VV, WAC, Silhouette, True Blue, and a few others) and it is stable in all temps. WAC was a decent load but felt "violent" to me and didn't like it as much as HS6. I haven't observed any difference in heat or other issues with HS6 compared with other powders through the years.

  14. They just ran a Labor Day special. It was 5% off anything and 10% off orders above $150 or something like that, don't quote me on that, just trying to recall from memory.  I am not sure if they ran a Black Friday special last year but I am betting they did and probably will this year.
