  1. My advice is that if you never loaded these bullets before, never had a similar load for this particular pistol, and maybe not seasoned with this loading type, I would start at about 10% below the minimum. Make sure to the "plunk" test with your barrel for the OAL so there are no surprises and take it slow. This situations sounds like too many unknowns so I would be cautious and double check everything before taking the load to the range. Make sure your chrono then verifies your data. This along with the above suggestions and you will be fine. Good luck with the new load! Let us know how it goes please.

  2. I think the above mentioned points are all valid and with the patent running out on the 2011 frame, everyone is making their own so they really don't have the market they used to have. If you're going to get a custom gun, I think a lot will go to the one of the builders with their own frames/slides or similar instead of ordering from STI. I do hate to see this, I still have my first STI Open gun from the 90's. I hardly ever take it out but when I do, it still runs good. The new owning company of STI (Westwind) probably is chasing the money, as stated above. I hope they come back to the competitive side in the future.

Also, before this gets any more out of control, I've made up my mind, I'm going to talk to the same RM, and I'm going to ask him for advice on how to properly avoid this in the future, not going to hold a grudge against neither him nor the RO, it was a hot day, he was also shooting, things happen, no reason to ruin my entire shooting experience because of this.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestion, definitely will be sticking around.

That's the best statement and decision you could have made, my hat is off to you brother. Keep your chin up and keep having fun!

  4. After the start signal, the CoF has begun and just as you said, you just go with it so technically, you are not "starting in single action" since the CoF is underway. You started the CoF with the hammer down while it was on the barrel/table/etc. This is USPSA, not sure about IDPA.

it’s not open division it’s pcc.

I'm confused, what do you mean?

D8 is for PCC, D1 is for Open. The question was about shooting this firearm in Open division so D1 is what we are discussing in relation to the rebuttal I posed. We already established that  the rules state you can not use a Sig brace in PCC (D8). So back to my original question, why can't you shoot this pistol we are discussing in Open division?

D8 6 is your rule. Answer is no

I think you missed the point here. D8-6 is for PCC division only and states a stock must be attached and Sig braces/variants are NOT allowed here. If you read D1 - Open Division, there is no mention of this. As long as it doesn't have a forward grip or stock (5.1.10) (Sig brace is not a stock IAW ATF ruling), what else would preclude this from being used? Comments?

I am in no way trying to stir up anything, merely just discussing the rules we have in place and how they may apply to the OP's question. To the OP, the short answer is No. However, to Open division - we can discuss that.

You’d have to shoot it from a holster that covers the trigger, and use 170mm magazines. Could still run afoul of 5.1.10.

Edit: and weak hand only stages would be tough!

Ok, got that, but the answer I responded to was an unequivocal "No" so I wanted to pose the possibility of it in Open. And 5.1.10 will not affect it since by the official ATF ruling, it is not a stock. With everyone making their own Kydex holsters, I am sure that won't be a problem either. So again, what about Open? I don't see anything else that would disqualify it. Will you win anything with it? Probably not. However, just a thought...Merry Christmas all.

  8. I had an old STI barrel one time and I had to go up to 8.6 HS6 to make 170 with a MG 124 JHP. Most of my others now only need 8.1-8.4 but I've loaded as high as 8.6. Watch for pressure signs - I'm sure you're aware of that but I wanted to mention it.

Also, I read one time when the increase in powder in a Major load failed to raise the velocity, there was a some sort of power curve issue that could be dangerous. That was years ago and I will try to look around for a reference but I would be extremely cautious with going any higher. Is there any unburnt powder residue with the 8.4 loaded rounds?

I believe Dave Sevigny at the HDC had this happen. He was and still is a class act. He volunteered to do a reshoot.

At at a match in Abq I took off at the beep and the RO never caught up. He was and is my friend for some sixty years. It was a no brainer-we just did a reshoot.

Good sportsman’s conduct does not require a rule.

    ++++++++++1!

I'd talk to aircooled6racer (above) - he has designed a very nice comp, and he

says it works with minor loads :)   He has done a LOT of work with these,

and can recommend for you how to use it - how to reload to maximize the

    effectiveness.

+1 - I have one of his comps also.

  11. If you don't want to send it off or have a local gunsmith work on it, you can get some cold blueing or even some of the spray finishes to help a little. Not ideal but better than nothing. Like it was said above, you will have to keep it well oiled constantly.
