  1. This x 1,000! Please duplicate this year's format for next year & beyond! And thank you again to the entire Gibson clan, ROs, and sponsors.
  2. Ditto everything you said Russ. As long as I can carry a pack I'll be Trooper.
  3. No worries, I just wanted to be sure to give credit where credit is due to two great sponsors. I saw many folks picking up Crimson Trace laser grips and Surefire products from the prize table, too. They really stepped up, and the stage was a great way to demo both companies' products.
  4. Fixed it for ya. And I agree, that was a really fun stage!
  5. I'd suggest Tuesday and Saturday nights instead. Speaking for myself I'll be in more of a mindset for BBQ/ meet & greet after the match is over.
  6. It's excellent. I own one and use it a lot as part of a general weight training program. You don't have to be uber fit to use it. One of its advantages is its use while traveling. Bodyweight exercises usually don't target the posterior chain (back, hams, etc) that well so the TRX fills the gap. You can use the TRX to make an exercise as easy or tough as you need per your fitness level.
  7. Recently I heard a similar concept explained as, "You are the average of the five people you hang around with most." Interesting to ponder that, for both shooting and non-shooting aspects of life.
  8. I'm torn on the plate rack. They went down with 00 of course but seemed to go down just fine with #6 too. Spinners, yeah, 00 rules.
  9. Well... it depends on what your definition of "off" is. I think there were one or two strands of Velcro holding it on there. Otherwise it looked darned close to a striptease to those of us behind the line ...
  10. This was my first Ironman and I loved it. Thanks so much to Travis, Mike, the SPONSORS (FNH USA!!) and to the ROs who worked themselves into the ground for a week solid. Congrats too to all the winners. I really hope the final 3 Gun Nation shoot-off will become a regular part of the event.
  11. I can't comment on Ahimsa, as that is a specific Hindu/Buddhist/Jain (and somewhat Christian) philosophy. However, as for Zen specifically, there is significant crossover in practice between it and the Martial Arts.
  12. Exactly my experience with my SLP at 50, using RR Fiocchis.

    Beginner's Mind

I was taught something similar, almost a corollary to this, when I started learning how to shoot. I was taught, "be task oriented, not goal oriented" when learning / doing a new procedure (such as reloading a shotgun). The point was that being goal oriented in such a procedure takes you out of the moment where you are, losing your awareness if you will, and makes you anxious to be at some point in the future...often with disastrous results.

    What is it?

Profoundly true. I am rediscovering now the lessons of Zen I had learned while studying martial arts years ago.
  15. I found this as well, esp. compared to my Vang Comp'd Mossberg 590A1. That was one reason I went looking for a reduced recoil slug.
  16. Yes. Mine shot them (Remingtons) just fine with the light piston. As I said in another post however, I found my SLP shot the Fiocchi low recoil slugs better than it shot full house slugs. YMMV.
  17. If this helps: I've tried several brands of slugs, and so far have found the Fiocchi reduced recoil slugs have been the most consistent. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=918352
  18. Have you experimented with different chokes and slugs? It took me a while to get my SLP to hit at a decent POI; ironically mine hit 6" low at 50 yards and I would love to be able to lower the FS.
  19. Good point. I recently found that my (non dominant) right eye has slight astigmatism, which isn't apparent until I am aiming at targets beyond 100 yds. Clearly my brain decided a while ago that since my left eye sees better, it'll be the dominant eye. I will begin giving the turn-your-head-slightly approach a try and see if it is better.
  20. FWIW, I have noticed the same thing in my current journey away from the thumbs-up "combat" grip to the BE grip. My sights now come back to the same place more consistently than before. And thanks for creating this thread as I've learned a lot as a lurker. Also -- and I know this is entirely beside your main point here -- for your carry guns you might look into using AGrip instead of grip tape. Agrip is softer, more like suede and won't tear your clothes up, yet provides a surer grip.
  21. Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster here, so go easy I'm the same as many here: right hand/left eye, but my solution seems to differ from those posed above. My solution is simply to close my left eye during the draw and shot. It's an automatic and consistent action, I have usually shot in the top 5-10% in the gun course skills tests I have taken. (I haven't taken the USPSA qualifier yet so I don't know my Class) Closing the left eye has some problems, the worst of which I have found is that by closing one eye, the right eyelid sort of gets "squished" down too (parasympathetic response?). This seems to result in my sometimes not seeing the FS lift; my logic being that since the right eye is somewhat closed, it's just that much easier to blink during recoil. Shooting rifle though, I have begun recently experimenting with switch to firing left side, and I find this especially helpful for long shots. I'm tossing this out as another option, but also to get feedback from those with more experience than I have.
