I agree that the majors are easy to maintain and can be done manually by creating a custom google map. I am more interested in local club matches. Your talking about maintaining a list of possibly hundreds of matches in a given year. If its a tool that is helpful gets people shooting at more events I think it is worth it. If it's simply using technology for the sake of having something cool I won't waste my time.

This would be far better if the marked location was the range location and included match information and links. The Texas Multigun Championship, for example, is not in downtown Liberty Hill. Anything worth doing is worth doing right. The mapping software that links google calendar to google maps currently does not support publishing of hyperlinks. I will try to contact the developer of the software to see if that can be added. I tried adding a link yesterday and it just came out as text. As for the actual location of the match, if people want to IM me the information for each match I can update it. Like I wrote in my earlier post I can add whatever information match directors/coordinators want me to add to the pinpoint info on the map. I'm not personaly trying to compile the list of matches. I'm just throwing out a tool to see if it is helpful or not and if so let's go from there.

I updated the map with the major matches listed in the sticky thread. For right now the map and calendar only contains major multigun matches. If you would like a major multigun match added you can send me an email with any details but it needs to include the match name, dates and location (either the city/state or the physical address of the match). Other information that I can post but not limited to... Match Director name / email Link to a thread on this forum for your match Website address for the match Registration date/cutoff If anyone has the info for the majors already listed I will add if you IM me. That's the same thing that I just did on google maps. After playing with this for a while last night I saw that it would require one person to maintain it which was not my intent. Also I was thinking that I it would be more useful if it were calendar based rather than location based. I did some searching last night and found a computer programmer that is working on this same integration. It uses a public google calendar where any match director could add their matches along with any other info (location of course). You then go to a website to view the map of the U.S. it will show you all of the matches for any given date range. That way if you are trying to plan what matches you want to go to in July for instance you can zoom in on your area of the country, set the date slide to July and presto. I don't know if I'm alone on this or not but I have a hard time weeding through all of the matches that are out of my area. Also when planning a vacation its nice to see if there is a match near where I am going (some people go to Myrtle Beach to play golf; I'd rather find a match.) Does anyone else agree that it would be useful to have a map of the U.S. with all of the local club matches, area matches and majors listed so you can see what is near you? I've been playing with google maps and it seems possible to create a map for each month and then list each match for that month. When you say "carry" I assume you are talking about personal defense or concealed carry. For me my competition gun is not my carry gun. I have a hard time concealing anything larger than a subcompact XD 9. I think what you buy will depend on what you are able to conceal. USPSA just approved the S&W M&P Pro for production class. If you can conceal this gun it may be a good choice as a dual purpose gun. Glocks don't fit my hand well but but you may want to look at those as well.

Stay away from Titegroup and Moly coated or lead. Burns too hot for anything but Jacketed and plated.

I have been doing a lot of tumbling the last couple months. My media was only lasting for about 4 cycles of brass and I was having to throw it out. I read on the almighty internet some suggeston on extending the ife of your media.... The one that has worked the best for me is the use of laquer thinner and cotton patches... I've heard the #1 cause of high lead in shooters is because of brass cleaning. Especially whe you are seperating the media after cleaning. Watch that lead and powder dust! I take around six 2"x2" cotton shotgun cleaning patches (any thick cotton fabric would work I suppose. Maybe a good use for my old cotton socks) and saturate them in laquer thinner. Make sure it does not contain ammonia as this weakens and makes brass brittle. Toss these patches right in to the tumbler along with the media and cases. I then tumble as normal. The residue sticks to the cotton more than the walnut media. I throw the patches out every 2 cycles (it doesn't take long to fill the cotton with residue). I have tumbled close to 15000 cases on only a couple changes of media. The other advantage is that there is no more dust when you seperate the media. You just have to make sure you are in a well ventilated area (make sure you are not near and open flames!). As a suggestion, wear latex or food service gloves when handling quantities of dirty brass. I have been experimenting with how "wet" to let the media get. So far I have not seen any problems with the media getting damp from the thinner. I always let the tumber run outside though. The last thing I want is my tumbler to suddenly burst into flames and burn my garage down. Use this technique at your own risk. It works for me though.

I just loaded a few thousand 45 without lube using carbide dies. I didn't find it hard in the least with the 650. It has such a long arm there is plenty of torque. With that said I have never tried using lube with pistol ammo. I did just by a can of One Shot at my local shop for reloading 223. I heard it's the best.

My workspace hase two heights. One above waist height and the other is sitting height. I mounted my 650 on the desk height bench with the strong mount and it is slightly too low. For me I want the handle about armpit height in the full upright position. Right now on the downstroke my arm is fully extended and I have to arch sideways slightly to reach the bottom of the stroke. If you don't have it mounted yet I would set the press on the bench, lower the handle take note what your body position is. I will be remounting mine

Thanks for your comments on trigger control. Never would have thought about that. Thinking now about how I shoot during a match I just pulled the trigger and the gun goes bang. Granted my prevous gun was a factory Kimber so the trigger was crisp but not light. It took a little pressure. My new gun has a 2.5 lb trigger but I haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet. I am getting ready to reload some and I will definitely try what you wrote.

Welcome aboard. What kind of blaster did you end up with? I have been shooting a Kimber 1911 single stack 45. I got tired of the mag changes and got talked into an Limited SVI race gun. Has a Caspian slide, Schuemman bull barrell, 2.5 lb trigger.

I bought a limited gun off the classified forum last month and decided that I would finally get involved and start posting in the discussion forums. That what I tried at my last shoot. I went for a fast pace but made sure I was on target on every shot and shot it clean. One of the other shooters that I normally shoot with even commented to me that it was one of the best stages he had every seen me shoot. I noticed one of my other friends shooting the same stage flew through the course and averaged around the 80% alpha mark. When the scores were posted his score blew mine away. I want to increase my scores but I want to do it the right way.

Yeah that would be helpful. Does USPSA have new club advisors or someone in charge of setting up new charters? I guess I should look at their website huh? :-) ..... off I go.

I was recently approached by a friend of mine that picked up a 41 Mag and wanted to know if I would reload for him. I have a 650 and don't mind reloading for him but I honestly have never seen 41 used brass for sale and don't know if it would be just as cost effective for him to buy factory loads. Anybody a=out there reloading 41?

That's great news. The owner of this shop is very excited about the new range and I'm sure would be agreeable to starting a league if it means getting people in his shop. I'll go out to the website and see what needs to be done to start up.

Thanks. I will definitely read those tips and try to practice them. You got some of the worst "common advice" there is...but it sounds like you needed it. Each shot you make is a separate shot. It doesn't matter if it is two on one target or not. It sounds like you know how to hit the Alpha. But, you aren't always doing that because your are caught up in a speed focus. You don't need speed, you need efficiency (technique). What you'll need to learn is how to get the gun (back) on target in an efficient manner. Burkett's tips will start you on that path.
