  1. We shot the new loads tonight and had some unexpected outcomes: The gun (STI Edge) constantly had issues with the reloads, but ran the shorter Atlanta Arms and Ammo just fine. The reloaded ammo would go almost into full battery then the slide would stop at about .25" from being fully closed. All of the reloads were chamber checked so we know they fit easily into the barrel??? I got about 5 shots off and the same thing would happen again. Clear and repeat. The reloaded ammo also had a few bullets that were tumbling when they hit the target. I am not sure what caused this. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Here is the load data: 180 Zero FMJ (We switched from the MG because of the angled neck. We had the same issues with the MG though) 4.8 grs. TG @ 1.2 OAL w .421 crimp CCI Small Pistol Thoroughly cleaned and polished brass Gun STI Edge .40 Factory mags with Grahams springs and followers
  2. WE is myself and my teenage son. We are new to reloading (that's why I posted in the beginner section) and have read and re-read the instructions quite thoroughly. That is why we are now on the site asking questions... As I said earlier it seems to be working fine now... Thanks for info on the barrel throating. We'll keep an eye out for that.
  3. working good so far. We've got the OAL adjusted and there is a crimp now where the brass was a little higher last time so I think we are heading in the right direction. Thanks everyone.
  4. That makes perfect sense...off to giver it a try..
  5. Im assuming the issue is associated with the REDDING die being a seating and crimping die combined. I say this because when we tried adjusting the amount of crimp we changed to COAL at the same time.
  6. ok we seem to be getting somewhere, but we are not to the point where the ammo is dropping in just yet. I need to make a correction to my above post. These are the dies were are using: REDDING #1 EXP R7 REDDING FL05 REDDING ST07 We can re-size the brass and it will drop in just as it should, but all that changes as soon as we charge it and seat the bullet. We are loading to 1.2 COAL. Any ideas?
  7. Alpharetta is a great place, but its quite large and even further from the range. If you were to choose something in this vicinity I would try for something on Winward Parkway. Its the last exit in Alpharetta going north toward the range. Add another 20-30 mins to your drive vs. Cumming, Dawsonville or Canton if you shoot on Sat or Sunday. maybe a lot longer if you shoot on Friday. You never know whats going to happen on GA400 during rush hour in Alpharetta.
  8. Thats about what I got from Thursday to Wednesday. The weekends are higher from what I remember.
  9. River Bend is a fantastic place to shoot and last years match was fantastic, but the range is really in the middle of nowhere. That being said there are some options. Canton, Cumming and Dawsonville are well within driving distance and all have great choices for hotels, restaurants, shopping (if the spouses come) etc. Plan on a good 30 minute min. drive to the range from each of these cities.
  10. Decided to go for economy. I was looking at the price per person for first class, not the total. Hell I could buy a backup Trubor for that...guess I better hit the treadmill and slim down some! Now I just need to decide between Airtran and Delta. Any input or is economy seating economy seating? Ive heard Airtran has a newer fleet.
  11. How do we adjust the crimp? We are using Lee dies.
  12. We are loading for a .40 and have run into a particular issue that we need HELP with. We are using brass collected from the range and inspecting it for length, usage, cracks, etc. The brass is in great shape, but we are having an apparent resizing issue that seems to be causing the gun (Edge) to not go into battery at times. Here is the situation in pictures! Here is a factory Atlanta Arms and Ammo .40 and here is our reloaded ammo. 180 MG FMJ reloaded in a Dillon 550 as you can easily see the reloaded ammo isnt dropping into the barrel. Should this take a little force to go in or should it drop in just as the factory does? Thanks in advance!
  13. We've only flown three times and that was in the last two months and for business (we snuck Area 5 in there..), but we are ready ready to make flight reservations for Nationals and I wanted to get an idea of any experiences all of you have had with flying first class. We'll be flying with Delta because they are the only non-stop flights out of Atlanta. Is it worth the money? I just don't want to be crammed against someone like I was in economy and I want to actually know that I have a butt when I get their. Hopefully the seats are better.. Thanks!
  14. It all depends on many different things like his ability or injury level, type of chair and the type of gun. I'm paralyzed from the chest down and I can only holster reliably crossdraw, which is why I don't compete. It creates an unsafe situation. In any case the situation would need to be handled just as it was, regardless of handicap. If he can be safe and follow the rules, then he can shoot. If he presents a hazard to himself and others, then he shouldn't be allowed to shoot. There is no room for PC when a gun is involved, not that I agree with being PC anyway..
  15. I love my meoptra, and for less than 100 yards it pretty much stays on 1 power as a dot unless all the targets are at a distance. My son has had two different acogs and the 4x32 is by far the best if you are shooting less than 100 yards. He has since gone to a var Leupold specifically because the longer shots outstretched the acog, but he has shot 300+ in some instances and the power just wasn't there.
  16. Confirmation received - check Hotel reserved - check Days off requested - check New shotgun - check Car repaired - check Happy about not going through TSA checkpoint with ammo this time because we are local and don't have to fly - check Is it December yet? Cant wait!
  17. + 1...just bring some cooler weather if you come. There seems to be a lack of it here lately..
  18. I actually took it out to make sure that wasnt the problem.
  19. Die - 40S&W-10mm FL05 Brass - Winchester 40 SW Brass is not new!
  20. We can get it in just a little, maybe 1/4" - 1/2", and its very hard to remove.
  21. its a .40 and its the only dies we have and they are marked S&W .40
  22. So we have everything we need to reload. We have three dies: 1. resizing and decapping, 2. Expanding and 3. Seating. We are having some real issues. To begin with we cant get the brass into the resizing die whatsoever. No matter what we try it wont go in there, even with one shot. If we skip that step and just expand the neck, when we seat the bullet it just falls down in the brass when you push on the bullet. Its not being seated and the brass is not being crimped. We need some serious pointers on adjustment I think. Any help is appreciated. We have a Lee turret press and redding dies. Thanks!
  23. Im shooting 165gr .40 cal. I guess I need to find a reference to the differences in length between MG and Winchester...or just find a 165 gr win .40 recipe....
  24. Is there a difference in length of the bullet between different manufacturers? For example are bullets from Montana Gold a different length than bullets from Winchester? I want to run some test loads with Titegroup and all I have are some winchester bullets found locally, but the recipe I am using calls for Montana Gold and, if the lenght is different, I dont want to casue a pressure situation by sinking a longer/shorter bullet to the specified COAL. Thanks! Ben
  25. Way to go Adrian! ..cool stuff!
