  1. I did a 3-gun match at GGC a couple years ago and it was great.

I have shot a couple of times at the Spartanburg USPSA matches (1st and 4th Saturdays) and they were top notch. http://shootspsa.org/

They also do IDPA on the 3rd Saturday.

You're in luck, one of the best shooters in the state is having a 3-gun match this Saturday:

You'd be welcome to come out, watch, help, and ask questions. I've got to warn you, though...once you see Robbie's AR barely move when he shoots it, you'll want one.

We made it up there last month and it was a great match. I wish I could swing it this weekend. :(

You're also not too far from Mid Carolina that puts on first rate USPSA matches the 2nd Saturday of each month.

They also do Steel Challenge on the 3rd Saturday and many other disciplines at other times.

If you're ever down our way (Augusta), we have a USPSA match on the 4th Saturday of each month:

  2. My 13 year old, Tommy, C class Production shooter got 5A and 1C in 4.84 seconds for a HF of 5.7851.

If the calculators are correct, that is over 100%

I managed to get the exact same 5A and 1C in 4.82 seconds but one of my alphas was in a NoShoot. blink.gif

  3. Aristotle and Carmoney, I'd like to write this story up for Dillon's Blue Press if it's okay with you both.

OK, but I want that chick on the front cover to come interview me in person.

I don't think that's too much to ask.

Sorry she wasn't available, but I did make it by in a thong and as soon as Mike gets out of the hospital I think he will appreciate the pics taken.

  4. For those that didn't make it, you missed a good one. Well worth the 2 hour drive from Augusta. Enough fast, close stuff to keep the hosers happy, enough tough, long shots (partial targets freestanding from 100 yards) to keep people honest, and enough options of different ways to shoot stages to make people think. 3 of the 4 things I love about good 3-gun matches. If only had been able to win, it would have been 4 out of 4. :)

  5. fancy shopping/ dining.

In South Carolina?? Surely you jest!sight.gif

LOL! I've lived here for 25 years and travel a fair bit. Sarge is right...not much in the way of fine dining here. But, we do have anything you want as long as you want it fried! There is a place in Columbia called Lizards Thicket that has nothing but fried food.

  6. Based on the wording of 10.5.14, the RO should NOT hand the gun to the competitor, though I can't find any penalty or even infraction for doing so.

From the standpoint of the competitor, they would be safe since they are under the supervision of the RO.

10.5.1 Handling a firearm at any time except when in a designated safety area or when under the supervision of, and in response to a direct command issued by, a Range Officer.

ETA: After reading that more closely the competitor is only Ok if the RO directs them to take it and holster it. I would argue that an RO handing it to me is direction issued by the RO, even though it is non-verbal.

IMO, the RO trying to catch a gun is just as dangerous as anyone else trying to catch a dropped gun and should be DQ'd if they are also a competitor in the match.

    Answer from NROI ruling:

Assigned RO's should not have a handgun on while running competitors, this usually occurs in the scenario you state and mostly at local matches. Should someone acting as the RO, drop their unloaded handgun while doing so, should NOT retrieve their own handgun, they should seek someone else in the squad to do so. Once a gun is dropped, the individual who dropped it, becomes no different than a competitor and falls under 10.5.14 and 7.23.
  8. My son use a reversed mag release button and occasionally (one or three times per match) hits the mag release with his trigger finger during recoil. I keep trying to convince him to swap it back but it works for him. The only positive is that he is very quick at different malfunction drills, now.

  9. Early versions of the Arredondo didn't "lock" the basepad/extension and it could slide off. That is no longer a problem.

I have the Arredondos and I have a SSS magwell that I can't use because it needs TF to work. If I ever get serious (ha ha) I'll have to get some TF extensions.
