  1. JT, This may sound nuts BUT...what if my casefeeder cam adjustment is the problem? Would that account for the misfed brass, screwed up primers...and what if that effects the sheelplate and the hang up at sta. 2? I will try that tonight!
  2. Getting your vision moving in this manner is...kinda hard. The physical tasks/steps aren't that hard, but getting the right mental picture to drive the action can be. It's really a mindset. You have to decide to put "seeing more" as your one driving goal of your shooting. (that means not to think of speed, nor even accuracy...just make your one thought "see more") When you explore it, do so in super-slow motion for quite a while. I find that I try to be too accurate. I seem to shoot better (at home) when I don't "think to much". Right now I am working on keeping my eyes open during the shot and seeing everything that happens. Once I read that in Brians book, and that we needed to master that before we continue....well I saved the page and closed the book. The other problem I have is relying on instinctive shooting. During IDPA matches, on close targets, I can zip through without really aiming and score well. But...what am I seeing? That's the problem, it is instinctive vice "seeing". Does this make sense?
  3. lol - Big Pops...you nailed it! I have a 21 and 19 year old son, 17 year old daughter ....I'm 6'3"........ they gave me the nickname. It follows me everywhere!
  4. Explore this first. See what you learn. know that it may take a while to get the mind and vision moving. - Current target: my visual focus is on the front sight. I see the front sight lift out of the notch in recoil (this allows me to call the shot). [note: if you aren't yet to the point where you can..and do...call all of your shots, then spend your training time on shot calling instead/first.] - After the call, my visual focus will snap to the next target to locate and define where I want the gun to go on the target transition. - Once the destination is set, my visual focus will pull back to the find the front sight. By this time, the gun will be coming onto the target destination. - As the gun "settles" (no time at all), my visual focus sees the front sight is razor sharp clarity. - For the second shot on the same target, my visual focus can stay with the front sight (giving me maximum feedback to call the shot), since I have already located my target SPOT for this target. - For the next target transition, repeat above. Wow. Sounds pretty simple put that way. Now to go practice. Thank you very much Flex..to all of you. Being new to this competitive shooting, I learn more on this forum than I ever imagined. Some good...some bad!
  5. OK, will do. I'll hit up a buddy of mine for some old brass.
  6. Chrisstock, I did not change the shellplate as I only have the one since both 40 and 9mm use the same. I did change the locator buttons. I have the casefeeder installed so no need for the springy thingy. I have a feeling my toolhead is out of whack. I have tried EGW, Lee, and Dillon die's and continue to have the same problem. Like I said, it seems odd to have a primer, sizing, and belling problem all at the same time. Misspelled??? I hear ya, I type like old people have sex! It is possible the head was not in the jig properly when drilled, but seems very unlikely... how bad do you want to know? You have two tool heads right? You can measure them if you have the equipment, or you can bite the bullet, so to speak, and swap the dies out with the other head. Wow...that would really suck! I have them both dialed in, especially the 40. But you make a good point. Strike that idea... I went back and looked at the OP and you said the thing was running 9mm fine until you switched to 40 right? The primer seating issue bothers me in that even if you had other problems the primer shouldn't be that hard to seat which pushes me into looking really hard at brass. You used the alignment tool to align the primer hole with tool head etc. So let's assume that they alignment is right. If you don't have a crunch and a slight jump when starting your seat I would say the alignment is fine. That brings us back to brass. The more I think about the issues you are having the more I lean toward brass. Does the machine cycle freely without the powder funnel? Do you have some old nasty brass that's been loaded a few times? Try it if you do. I really think you are dealing with a brass issue... I know I know, but that's what it "feels" like. Just to make sure I understand...are you saying to load some old brass and see if that works? I am willing to try anything but it would seem weird to only be able to reload old stuff and not new brass.

  9. $20...wow that is tempting! Last night was interesting. I tore everything apart and cleaned it all up ( I mean EVERYTHING). I realigned my shell plate, adjusted my primer feed, and replaced any part that looked slightly worn. End result - same crap while trying to reload the 9mm. Casefeed was terrible at best, primers were so rough to load that it felt as if they would explode. Brass sticks in station two to the point that it is felt in the handle and makes an audible clicking sound. I then switched toolheads and reloaded 40's. Other than a couple hangups with the shells coming out of the case feeder things were very smooth. Dillon...........are you reading any of this? I will call when I have a chance but if anything comes to mind please jump in. Is there a chance that my shellplate is out of specs although my entire setup is fairly new? Could my toolhead be off? There just seems to be to many problems at once. To clarify - all brass is once fired Winchester "white box" or new Remington.
  10. For me, the latter, for sure. I can pick out my target SPOT faster than my gun can get there. So, that gives me the "aim small" part. Taking the gun to a well defined (centered) SPOT...on top of the benefits of driving the gun to a "well defined" destination...I am allowed a bit more slop in the sight picture/trigger pull. So, I don't have to be as perfect...allowing for a bit more "grossness" in the motor skills. Get to where you are driving the gun to a defined SPOT and you should have a leg up on figuring out the rest. And, don't forget, it all starts with a good call on the shot before the transition, then an eye snap. Flex, I have been reading your posts with an open mind and trying to put it all together. I do have a question for you in regards to front sight reference. At what point do you focus on the front sight while addressing a target, or put another way, when moving your eyes to the next target and your gun follows? Are you then focusing on the front sight? I have a competive archery background which taught me to focus on the target and overlay your sight on the target. With the pistol I find my eyes doing sprints when i feel like I should be more focused on the front sight. Perhaps I should just sell everything and go Open!
  11. WHEN YOUR FIRST THOUGHT AFTER FOREPLAY IS..........(wait for it)........... "LOAD AND MAKE READY"
  12. Thanks....pretty simple when explained like that
  13. I find myself always having to re-think and make hand gestures when asked the proper sight adjustment in regards to direction of adjustment vs. shot placement........so what is an easy way to remember? (yes, i did a search)
  14. I know...tough to do though....sort of like asking for directions when your with the Mrs.
  15. lol...thanks for the laugh. This things has really been pissing me off. Tonight I will disassemble one more time and check things out. Either that or I will stick to 40's and sell all of my 9mm!
  16. I use One Shot so it's not sticking becuase of that.
  17. The Winchester brass is once fired "white box" ammo. The Remington is new. I have the #3 buttons installed. I am beginning to wonder if my primer cup needs to be reset? I am stumped on my cases getting stuck? The 40's load as smooth as butter when I put that head on!
  18. Proper shell plate? Is it tight enough...? you need to go all the way tight and then just back off so it turns free. Thanks for the Saturday response - yes it is the correct one, yes it is tight.
  19. Hello all. I am looking for some advice. I have read manual, read the forum, tighten everything twice, measured twice.....well you get the idea. I keep looking for that one thing that I have missed to where I can say "ah sh@t"! I reinstalled my 9mm toolhead, a complete toolhead, after loading up some 40 S&W rounds. As I get started the brass wobbles out of station one (from the case feeder), requiring me to keep resetting the handle to get it to line up. Then as I cycle through everything goes smoothly until I go to install the primer. It primes about 75% of the time, and it feels very hard to do so. Sometimes it seems like the pressure required could discharge the primer. Also, at station two the powder funnel seems to hang up on the case lip as I lower the base plate. This is felt and heard by an audible click. Other than that...things are great! What bothers me is that the 9mm setup was perfect before I switched over to the 40....the 40's ran great....and now this. Any ideas? The yes's; * I have the toolhead tight, pins installed. * the dies are tight - EGW U die in sta. 1 * I reset the primer bar, cleaned, and checked alignment. * I re-cleaned the shell plate and checked for security. * I checked for proper belling of my cases * I use once fired Winchester and a few new Remington brass - with WSP primers * I have not been drinking!
  20. This one still cracks me up...... On my 4th or 5th IDPA match I was first one up at a new stage. Pretty basic setup having to shoot 4 quick shots around barrels, reload with retention, boogie like mad while shooting 4 more targets on the move, reload, shoot 5 poppers and stop. Imagine my surprise as i blitz though the first 4 shots and haul butt........... shooting the 4 on the move.......standing in no mans land....realizing I failed to perfom my reload.
  21. I second that! After countless emails and stupid phone calls (and never complaining) Scott did a terrific job on my Xd Tac 9. The trigger, magwell, sights etc are perfect. The turnaround time was impressive too - from Maryland to Oregon and back in a little over 1 week. Plus.......he even gave me a military discount without me requesting it. I appreciate that.
  22. THANK YOU! Looks nice...plus I found it for $79.00. Not bad!
  23. Any suggestions for a good flashlight to be used in IDPA type shooting? I know there are a ton to choose from, but which ones are really worth the money? Thanks!
  24. Been meaning to write this up for awhile now..... A little while back I ordered a caliber conversion kit from Brian. To make a long story short I had a part that just didn't fit. I contacted Brian, on a Friday, to see about getting a new part. I received an email letting me know that he was out of town, and received an alternate POC. The new POC was a great help and recommended that I contact Dillon directly. I did...problem resolved. On Monday afternoon I received a phone call from Brian asking me if things had been taken care of and wondering if he could still help. My point to all of this? First off, if any of you are lurking on this site, debating (as i did for several months) on whether you want a Dillon, and whether you want to order from Brian....then wonder no more. I have always been impressed with the quick responses I have received from Brian concerning my countless emails, that must contain the "same old questions" he receives over and over, and yet, you never get that impression from him. Second of all ....you cannot beat the customer service from both Brian and Dillon. Top notch service and expertise....nothing short of that. I cannot think of to many companies that actually "follow up". All I can say is ....Thank you! Of all my purchases lately, this was my smartest one. To bad you don't make guns! S.T. Maryland
