  1. Larry,

    I shoot tactical optics.

I have a forward folding grip that I use on tables and prone position.

It is not touching the table or the ground when I shoot. My hand is under it.

I fold it to the up position when not in use.

Can I use it in your match?

    Thanks

Sorry my friend but that would be considered a supporting device.

5.3.4.3 Supporting devices (bipods, etc.) are prohibited.

Now allow me to explain. That provides an extension on the forend to allow you to put your hand under it on the ground while shooting off hand prone. For this reason it would be considered a supporting device and not permitted in any division except open.

You could leave it on the stowed position and not have an issue, it would be similar to the Magpul angled grip. However once deployed and used with your hand under it, then you would be moved to the open division.

    Hope that clears the air.

    Yup.

    Dave,

It looks like Larry is saying what you already know, and the rest of us will find out. "It sucks to get old."

See you in W.V. my friend.

    Golden years my ass!!!

Look forward to seeing you Dan.

  3. So I decided to run it as a service after the match. I would say I had about 15-20 people chron their ammo. I was astounded at the number who were minor who declared major. Not just 1 or 2. Like 4-5. And of those at least 2 were seriously minor. 145-150. The others were in the 163-164 range. No one was sub-minor.

I can't believe you were surprised!

I got curious about shooters declaring major in my division with guns that seemed to have way less recoil than mine.

At first I thought that my gun was not set up properly. Nope.

I started to pick up dropped mags and stripping rounds from them and then chronoing them later.

Surprise surprise, none of them came close to major!! Some did not make minor!!

I realize that my gun might chrono different from another gun but not that much.

Most of these shooters go to big matches and surprise, they make major.

I guess they carry their chrono bullets separate from the hoser stuff.

I still do it from time to time. Same deal.

  4. Also, unless it has changed, do not bring your AR or shotgun to NJ for a 3gun match.

Shotguns cannot hold more than 5 rds even for locals.

Non resident cannot bring a AR into the state.

Ar mags cannot hold more than 15 rds.

The mag cannot be modified to hold only 15, it has to be manufactured that way!

To bad. They put on great 3gun matches!

Correct me if this has changed Ben.

Hope so, I would like to shoot there again.

So must you use all 3 guns for every stage? Some stages would allow using only 2, for instance stage #1 handgun and rifle, no shotgun.

    David E.

    Stages for your reading enjoyment.

    Disclaimer: May cause sleepless nights.

Remember they are subject to change.

Will you be posting diagrams for stages 10-12 or at those a suprise?

Last year we ran some stages with only 2 but could have run 3 gun if we chose. It was a tactics issue.

You could have run the whole match without ever reloading the shotgun, if you wanted.

    YES

Please tell me where the registration will be.

    Match motel in Winchester?

    Match motel in Inwood?

    At the match?

    The day before?

    Thanks

  6. I will be posting stages shortly.

We will have MGM Recon Targets, IPSC out to 450 yards, Colt Speed steel out to 250 and Sammies out to 80 yards. I forgot about the iron sight guys last year. This eliminates the whinners from having any air time.

    :D

    Where will registration be?

    Hampton in Winchester?

    Hampton in Inwood?

    At the range?

    Banquet this year? Where?

    Stages look great!!

    Thanks

  7. We had a great time and I'm definitely making this one to attend next year. Hopefully the format catches on and there will be more matches! Thanks for putting it on and we appreciate all of the effort that went into it.

Side Match - No footage of the 5 second run =(

I was disappointed you did not give your side match win money back to the wounded warriors.

After all, that is what it was about. To get money for them!

  8. My son has one and its been an ultra reliable, soft shooting shotgun. It's light, points like your finger and cycles everything we put in it including my 7/8 oz skeet reloads. In 5 years of shooting sporting clays, skeet, and dragging it through the duck marshes he's had zero malfuntions. I was playing with it yesterday evening and its very easy to load. Anybody using one?

Does it have the auto load feature?

If it does, adding a tube changes the timing and can cause malfunctions.

Very little work will make it reliable again.

I run a Browning Gold with the auto load and it is a sweet gun to shoot!

  9. The bullets of the live rounds are getting scratched during manual ejection, not chambering. The ejector pushes the round off center during ejection. If there is a bullet on the end of the case, it gets scratched. Every AR15 does this. It is normal.

    100% correct!

Accuracy is most affected by the back of the bullet and the crown on the barrel.

Look at Sierra H.P. match 69's. A known great bullet. The H.P.'s are irregular but the boatail is perfect!

  10. The battle comp directs a lot of the blast forward. When ROing shooters with them they don't seem as sharp as others. I have never used one do I don't know if that lack of noise translates to lack of performance. There is usually a trade off for everything.

    Jesse,

Did you ever get around to comparing the "new" Miller comp to a SJC?

  11. I'm a new RO .. Just did the RO course about 2 months ago, and then did a 1 day local qualifier match indoor last month.

This past weekend I was RO Saturday and Sunday at a bigger match (about 120 shooters) set up as work 1/2 the day, shoot 1/2 the day. Saturday I worked in the morning.

The other RO (more experienced) ran the first squad through and I worked the clipboard and one shooter broke 90 on a reload while moving into the next shooting position. It was clear and that was that. After that squad, the CRO talked about it with us (the 2 ROs) and said we really needed to watch that one spot and he would give the squads a heads up while doing the walk through so they were aware.

So, next squad I'm running the shooters and the other RO is running the clipboard and score cards. The 3rd shooter up (experienced) did the same thing, very clearly broke 90. I stopped him and gave the reasons, and the CRO had also clearly seen it.

Fast forward to Sunday ... New shooter, had just done his first match Saturday. Similar spot as Saturday, with the potential for breaking 90. Being a newer shooter, he fumbled a bit with one mag change and nearly broke 90. I changed my angle of view a bit to make sure he was ok for the next spot he would have to do a mag change (remember in Canada we only are allowed 10 round mags maximum, so reloading happens often).

He broke 90 on that spot, similar to the guy on Saturday. I stopped him. "unload and show clear". "did I really?" "unload and show clear" and he does. By that time the CRO had walked over. "are you sure?" "yes, I'm 100% sure. I had the angle and saw it clear as day". "ok, no problem"

After scoring and taping, the shooter comes up and apologizes to me, and shakes my hand. I apologize and say I had to call it as I saw it. But I did feel bad .. Younger guy, just getting started.

As an RO, you really don't dq anyone, they dq themselves. The RO just does the paperwork.

As an RO do you get bothered with having to dq someone? I need to just shrug it off and carry on obviously, but still thinking about it now ....

    Kind of a funny story?

Friend of mine had just taken his RO certification course and was anxious to RO.

I usually run the squad but told him to go ahead.

At the beep, his very first shooter draws and fires a shot through his pants above the knee, travels down his pant leg and comes out alongside his foot! Never touched his leg!

When the initial shock was over, my friend turned to me and said, "that's a DQ isn't it"!!

  12. Just recieved my seekins precision lower and put it together this weekend. To my disapointment my 60 round surefire mag will not latch, the front of the magwell that looks so sweet comes down to far to let the mag seat. Just a heads up for anyone considering this lower. Not trying to bash the product, I actually love it but just letting people know before they buy.

That may be a good thing!

Watched three 60 rounders puke at a match yesterday.

One shooter had three of them. One was reliable, two were not.

Mine sits in the safe after being back to Surefire twice.

  13. The same distance and type of shooting that they were the other time I wasn't shooting the miller.

I was not trying to be a smart ass.

A fast double tap at 15 yds, cannot be compared to one at say 30yds.

For instance, with my set up I can do 2" at 35 yds.

At 15 yds, a paster will cover both shots.

So, how far were you shooting to cover both shots with a paster?

  14. Thanks for the thread.

I was - as far as I know - the 1st one to review it as Brandon is a friend.

    tacticalgunreview (dot) com/blog/2011/12/miller-precision-arms-hammerhead-muzzle-break/

What I think sets this thing appart is the negative egg shape of the baffles, much like a booster nozel for a rocket. Everything else has flat sides.

We are planning on doing a fairly comprehensive test when we can gather all the comps to test. I have personally shot it against an SJC titan on the same rifle on the same day and can tell you from my personal experience the 4moa aimpoint dot doesnt move.

The last AR15targets.com night match a shot, a few of my bullet holes were so close to gether they covered them with a single peice of tape and that has never happened before.

It gives the other guys in your squad a headache.. but it doesnt bother me, becuase I am yelling "Get some... get some!!" while I'm running and gunning.

    :)

How far were the targets and were they fast double taps?

    Makes a big difference!

  15. Sorry for the bad iPhone photography. Out of the box, I'm really happy with this shotgun. I want to take it apart, clean, and oil it before going to shoot it the first time. I'll post more photos disassembled if I have time later in the week.

Ouch on that set screw in the back of the trigger guard!!
