  1. Hoosiershooter; I see you are form Erie, are there any multi matches close to there? I have family up that way. Always good to get some shooting in when visiting friend and family.
  2. No, not as such, however "heavy metal" is welcome in any of the classes.
  3. We are having a 3-gun match at Mifflin Co. Sportsmen Club Sat. April 2nd, 2016. Here is a link: http://www.mifflincosportsmens.com/3GunShoots.htm We are designng 6 stages, with a jungle walk for shot gun, with both bird shot and slugs. A long range stage with targets both close and fast and long, rifle shots out to 400 and 500 yds. A stage with a variety of rifle shots out to about 150 yds and close in shotgun and pistol. Then 3 stages in bays, (however one of the bays is 100 yds dee). This will probably be somewhat long gun centric, but expect to shoot about 100 rounds of each. Shot gun will need at least 6 slugs. More information as it becomes available.
  4. I looked over the Canik at the Easter Sports and Outdoor show. Fit my hand really well, trigger dry fired just fine. Good to see Pat's review as I trust his judgement.
  5. With only 2 weeks to the match we have some news. Black Hat Training ( http://www.bhtcorps.com/) has offered gift certificates toward their excellent classes. We are looking at a somewhat random selection so that everyone has a chance to win. The match is not yet full and is by pre-registration only. http://www.mifflincosportsmens.com/2GunShoots.htm
  6. Mifflin Co Sportsmen, Lewistown, Pa, is again hosting a fall 2-Gun match (rifle-pistol). This is a somewhat rifle intensive match with targets form 2-500 yds. so know your hold-overs. For more information and to pre-register: http://www.mifflincosportsmens.com/
  7. Damn. no forearm. After receiving the barrel and doing some preliminary fitting I called the supplier of the AP Custom ferearm and they don't have it, although that isn't what the web site had said. So I have been searching for another carbon fiber forearm, so far to no avail. Any suggestion on a good substitute. I don't want a lot of rails, I think it needs to be at least 15" and 17' would probably be better (24" barrel). At this point I will consider aluminium, it looks like the rifle is going to be over 10lbs, so a few extra ounces isn't a deal breaker. mic2377; thanks for the tip on the Fulton Armory barrel, it is a beauty, now if I get the forearm I could even shoot it.
  8. I will probably try a variety of bullets from 120 up, and it appears that H4350 is indeed the go to powder. I' be getting to my local shop to buy powder, as my supply is mainly oriented towards .223, 30-06, 30-30 etc, all using a medium burn and I'll need a bit slower for best results. Barrel is scheduled to arrive today, but no word on the forearm. I have 3 orders in and can't build until all 3 have arrived.
  9. I bit the bullet and bought the pieces yesterday. I have two DPMS uppers, one high Pi and one low. I have ordered a Fulton Armory 24" 6.5 Creedmore barrel. AP Custom 15" forearm (Carbon fiber), and a bunch of the stuff one never thinks of until it is time to reload a new cartridge. I'll try to post some pictures once I get the gun together and can shoot some targets. The weather report for next week is finally above freezing os I should be able to get to the range?
  10. A little update, but I have not made final decisions. What I am looking at now: a Fulton Armory 6.5 Creedmore 24" barrel, AP Custom Carbon Fiber Forearm, Vortex Viper 6-24 Scope. Comments?
  11. Some very good suggestions. I may not have made it clear that I already have 2 DPMS uppers, both in .308, one is 18" and very accurate, but a bit short for long range work, will probably keep this upper together and use it on the lower I use for the longer barreled .243 or 6.6. I have a very accurate .223, and yes on a windless day with enough elevation I suspect I could hit a large target at 1000 with it, occasionally. However, I will probably try some long range matches and although it is rare in the East this might go even a bit beyond 1,000, so I think I want a real long range ready rifle. Good Ballistic Coefficient (lets say over .500) and as close to 3,000 fps as I can muster. So in a .308 sized mag that sounds like .260, 6.5 Creedmore or .243. I had thought of the 6 Fat Rat, and Keystone right here in Pa has a couple of long range loads in .223 and 6MM based on 6.8 brass. Thanks for the tip on Lilja, they make 20 and 24" barrels in .260 that are reasonable at $505, and that does look good. Bill, I totally agree with " DPMS barrels surprise you sometimes." I have a 20" in 223 that is very good .5-.75 MOA with a number of loads. However, the 18" barrel on one .308 upper is sub 1-MOA, but just barely. Unfortunately, the other barrel just won't shoot better than 2.5 " so it will get sold. By the way, something I forgot, one of the uppers has a high picatinny and the other the low, are there any advantages, on a precision rifle, one way or the other?
  12. I have a DPMS upper that I would like to make over into a long range capable rifle. As I have access to a 1,000 yd range that seems the logical goal distance. My thinking is to barrel the rifle with a .260, 6.5 Creedmore, or perhaps a .243? As I already have the upper and bolt I really think a barrel, forearm and gas tube-block is what I need. In an Ar 15 this would be no problem. However, it seems the DPMS LR is not nearly as rich an environment, choice wise. I am not a terribly dedicated Long range shooter, but would like a good gas gun capable of first round hits inside the 1,000 envelope, given my doing my part of course. What are your thoughts on my best bet to put this upper together?
  13. I spoke to a DPMS rep at the recent Eastern Sportsmen's Show in Harrisburg. He said they have not released any of the parts and he did not know when they might. I believe I will build on an LR and sell that when the Gen II becomes available.
  14. Thanks for the vote of confidence Brian, I'll send the money right along.
  15. Nov. 8th, Mifflin Co Sportsmen will be hosting a 2-Gun (rifle-Pistol) Match. This will be a 5 stage match with a slight emphasis on rifle shooting. We will have a mix of accurate (shots to 500 yds) and fast shooting, with both the rifle and pistol. For more information please see our web site: http://www.mifflincosportsmens.com/
  16. Brian; You better bring the Grizzly load, need to slow you down. I will have ti shoot the old guy rated stuff.
  17. When I got my Nordic extension it came with their follower, and when I put it in the lifter "dug" into it. I simply replaced it with the original FNH follower and have had no further problems.
  18. I will be curious to see how this works out. Here in the East there are very few matches that require hits past 200 and I should think the 14.5 should be adequate for that? You should have a slight advantage on close range quick transitions? Please post your results, I don't think that the lack of response is indicative of lack of interest as much as most of us just don't know what to think.
  19. Further information and an entry form are now available on the website: http://www.mifflincosportsmens.com/3gunshoot.html This will be a 6 stage match with approx 100 pistol, 100 rifle, and 50 shotgun including buck shot (optional) and slugs. Rifle shots from point blank to 500 yds. Not many ranges can offer the facilities we have in the East.
  20. OK sounds like a plan, the big steel knock down plates with a handy firing point for buck and a less handy for birdshot sounds like a winner. The stage i am considering will probably have 5 strings of fire, only one of which would use buck, not a match loser, but a nice advantage for the well prepared shot gunner. Slugs will probably be used on 2 stages and will probably start the three noon birdshot exclusive stages with the buck or the slug, that will allow the shooters to empty their guns of the "problem" projectiles.
  21. I see that this topic is just over a yer old, but it might be useful to readers to have the context, so I'll ask this question here. Any ideas for good buckshot targets, and stages? Goals for the stage would be, most importantly use buckshot, many have it in their home defense shotgun but I personally have never had to use it in a match? Second, while I would like a stage where it can be used and even an advantage I would also not like forcing shooters who don't use it to totally fail, so an option to use bird or slugs would be ideal. I know it can get really expensive, not only for the buckshot but for the targets as well, so some targets-scenarios that aren't too exceptionally expensive as well would be great. So here is your chance to design a stage or two where buckshot is an advantage. This would probably be used as part of a long stage with a number of strings of fire, so a single (or two) string with buckshot on a 5-10 shot string would be fine, rather than a whole long stage with 15 plus rounds would be great. This is for the Miffliln Co 3-gun match Mar 29th, so if your stage(s) is selected you will get a free entry!
  22. Yes one day, and there will be pre-registration. We will limit the entry to 50 shooters so as to ensure that the match flows form stage to stage. I don't know about others; but I hate huge squads where it takes over an hour of waiting and pasting to get a few seconds of shooting. In the fall we had 8 per squad, there will be a bit more daylight Mar. 29th, so I believe we can safely have 10 per squad and still move along smoothly. More info as it is finalized and a link for entry in about 2 weeks.
  23. We will be holding a 3-gun match at the Mifflin Co. Sportsmen Range, outside of Lewistown, Pa, on Mar 29th. Planning is not finalized but I wanted to get the date up as soon as possible to help people plan. We have excellent long range facilities and you can expect a chance to really test your rifle skills. Stay tuned for further details, as they become available.
  24. Further information and entry form now on Mifflin Co Sportsmen Web site. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&key=b6ab443b8fd2c260d7b6bfa96baede95&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brianenos.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Fshowtopic%3D180597&v=1&libId=3ab285bc-731b-442f-8106-0b478ca32f96&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mifflincosportsmens.com%2F&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brianenos.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Fshowtopic%3D180597&title=Mifflin%20Co.%20Sportsmen%2C%20Pa.%202-Gun%20-%20Multi-Gun%2C%20Rifle%20%26%20Shotgun%20Match%20Announcements%20-%20Brian%20Enos's%20Forums...%20Maku%20mozo!&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mifflincosportsmens.com&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13801145985586
  25. Some more information on the match. In an attempt to ensure a good flow we are limiting each of the 5 squads to 10 people 8 paid shooters and 2 ROs. Expect approx 100 Round each of pistol and rifle. Pre-registration fee is $30, registration will open after FNH, 2+ weeks, and I believe the match will fill quickly. We will be using FNH rules, except a simple time plus scoring following their general format of 1 a-b hit or two hits anywhere to neutralize.
