  1. I was just doing a bit of shooting working on some stuff for nationals. I was geting set for the next drill and the sights looked wrong. Well, the front broke and the rear lost a piece, both on the same string! :surprise:

But in typical fashion, the company that made the sights will have a replacement set to me tommorow! :D

This is the second time this happened! Single stack nationals in '08 my barrel bushing broke two weeks before!

On a good note, maybe I can convince the check holder I really need a back-up gun now :D

  2. Where I am shooting now we seem to stick to the 32 round limit pretty strictly. Where I used to live there would be the occasianal 40+ round stage. I was a bit nerve racking shooting single stack :surprise: . I think it is fun to run a really long stage every now and then, but for the limited capacity crowd, especially new shooters it can break the spirit a bit if they have to reload from a pocket.

So maybe no rules against it, but you have to think of the crowd some.

  3. Some of us at work got a smoking deal on some P-16s. They all had the same problem. I took a little of the top of the "ledge" that engages the slide stop and no more problems. I put a small detent on the slidestop itself as well for a little insurance. I think my buddy has put a couple thousand through it since and no problems.

  4. As a newer M class shooter I am the only one at the club that shoots every month. I think it does make me a bit complacent. When the guys come down from the surrounding areas I seem to push harder learn more and make more mistakes, but pushing is the only way to get better. On the other hand I like being able to help the newer guys, watching the lights come on is one of the better feelings you can get. The short of it has been expressed many times above, I shoot USPSA to have fun and shooters are some of the best people I know. Growing the sport, to me, is more important than how I do at a local match as long as I am still having fun.

To the new guys, ask questions but be aware of how close that person is to shooting. Help tape and set steel, and don't be afraid to help score after a few matches. My stage breakdown is not the best, so don't be afraid to ask why a "better" shooter is or is not doing something you are thinking of, you could help them! Or you may save yourself from doing something wrong. Oh yeah, to everyone, show up early to help set up and stay after to help tear down, if you like to shoot this will keep the match director interested.

  5. Well, I sent off for info from SCSA on sunday and they haven't go back to me, it's only been a couple days, so I am not complaining. How are the times running per shoter per stage? Close to USPSA?

Do most people run a second gun? I foresee a lot of shooters running thier centerfire division and rimfire, I think I will :D. How much does your club charge for the second gun? Does anyone designate the stop plate, I was thinking painting the stand red or something.

I am getting pretty excited, can you tell?

  6. OK,the club I normally shoot with here is talking about starting a steel match. I am kinda jumping the gun, but here it goes. I used to shoot at a local club that had a monthly steel match but it was not like steel challenge, it was more like USPSA but all steel targets. The question I have is, should I stick with the standard steel challenge stages, steel challenge "like" stages(i.e. 5 rounds) or mix steel challenge type stages with USPSA type all steel stages?

I think we might draw some of the cowboys from across the road if we stick to five rounds, but who knows. The reason I am jumping the gun on this is to get a better feel on the targets to order, well if this happens.

What say you? GO ahead, flame me, tell me I am crazy, throw out some opinions please..

One last question, where are clubs getting thier steel? MGM is all I really know, anyone else I should look at?

    Thanks,

    Jason

  7. WOW! two years since my last post here! Well, things are going better now, I now have an M in Limited, Precision shooting has gotten better but still a bit lacking. Shot a pretty good match last saturday except of course the classifier, stupid one handed shooting. Nats in three months better get the rear in gear!

I thought about changing my screen name, but with how I have been thinking lately, I think this is more about mastering the pistol which is a never ending journey, so I'll leave it.

  8. Hey guys, maybe someone know that answer to this. A friend of mine has the Breacher model 500 and wants to put an extention on it. I guess that model attaches similar to the 590. He will bring it in so I can take a look, but does anytone make an extention tube for a 590? Are the threads the same as an 870?

Thanks for any help that can be given, if I jumped the gun on this, feel free to smack me around.

  9. Shot a bit today, just a qual with the STI and a couple groups slow fire. Trying to use the relaxation/not thinking techniques described in Brian's book. This is going to take a while.

Would get about 1, sometimes 2 rounds, then tense up like normal.

I don't know what it is about me shooting groups, well, I do know, but medium to slow my groups don't change at all, I am shooting about 4-5" 10 shot groups at 10 yards! Looks like nothing but precision practice for a while, I've been saying it, but now I need to really do it.'

  10. For Factory ammo, I like the Hydra-shok, 230 grain in .45. For .40, I carry what I get at work there's been some decent results with it over the years, it's 155 grain Win Ranger, It's some pretty hot stuff, about 195 PF out of an STI.

  11. I've been watching nothing but the olympics for the last week, so I have to chime in. I have to agree with shred, the steel challenge would be our best bet. The Pro-am type stup would be another choice that would be spectator freindly. Being spectator friendly has to be thought of when trying to publicize a sport, meaning that they have to see what is happening.

How many spectators do we get at nationals? Not many, even though, to us, this is the best thing since sliced bread it's hard to see/know what's going on score wise. I went to the second day of SS Nationals and watched Leatham and Jarret's squad for a couple stages. I learned a bit about how the best do things, but thier scores were a mystery. I know they could flash them on a score board, but I think steel is the best way to go about this. Steel challenge wouldn't be a bad start, but it isn't what "we" are looking for.

I have never heard of the OIC or whatever, but I can believe it. Look at how IDPA and USPSA shooters get along, even on this forum. IDPA and USPSA are about the two closely related shooting sports out there! The only way we will ever accomplish anyhting close to getting something that we want in the olympics is to be more friendly to the other shooting sports. I, for one, am sick and tired of hearing that "(insert shooting sport name here) isn't right", or "I won't shoot that" or whatever excuse people have to be so narrow minded. I will shoot anything I can. I'm not much good at precision stuff, I don't have the patience, but I have shot many different sports, SASS, IDPA, USPSA, Skeet, BPCR sillouhette, and let me tell you, the only thing that is different about people competing in different sports is this, the name of the sports that they don't like or won't shoot.

  12. Haven't been posting here like I have wanted, but I haven't been shooting as much as I have wanted either. I have been doing much better at the local matches, but I have noticed nerves starting to get to me on the first stage. I think I know what that's about hopefully I can stop thinking about it.

    edited for premature posting

  13. I was just thinking how much I would really love to replace my grill with that thing. MY grill is a bit worse for the wear, but for the money I could probably buy a new gun that will get more use.

  14. IMR makes a powder that supposedly works great in the older big cases like 45-70 and 40-65. I never really messed with it though.

My load for my handi-rifle was 65 grains of FFg by volume with a vegatable fiber wad soaked in lube and lots of SPG to help keep the fouling soft and a 405 grain Bear Creek bullet. For bear I bet it'd work well, but I'm sure your looking for smokeless.

Go find a cowboy action match and I bet you'll get the info you are looking for.

  15. Here is the link for the page at brownells:

    http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/Pro...OWER%20MAGAZINE

The followers are the same for all the mags, but if you don't have the power mag, you will need to clip one coil. You also might try the ISMI springs, they seem to last a bit longer, those single stack mags get loaded and unloaded more that pretty much anything else.

CDNN Investments was selling some knock off power mags for like $9, I use them for practice, when they wear out I just order more. BTW I used them for about 30,000 rounds before they started to wear out. Not saying to not go with the CMC, I like to give shooters the money when I need to buy things, but I wanted to try them and they worked just as well.

  16. Has anyone ever messed with putting a commander, 4 inch, slide on an officer frame? I was wondering if anyone is making such an animal or if anyone has messed with it. I am looking for a dacent carry gun, so .45 and the 4" is as short as I want to go, but I want a shorter than full size frame. Either steel or alunimum frame whatever advice can be given I would appreciate.

    Thanks,

    Jason
