  1. For about 1200 buy a desert eagle in 440 corbon, use a 240 fmj they should be going about 1750+ if I remember right, thats the 7+1 I'd like to carry if your talking grizzly or better. If your talking AZ size black bear, take the 45, should be enough with 230 FMJ. hard hitting penetration is what you want, Oh yeah, practice reloading while moving, could be pertinant. Wouldn't worry too much about it though.

  2. If your still looking for info, you might try a different powder. I had to get to about 172-173 PF to start to get consistency with clays, it ended up being a pretty good load, I was using a berrys bullets 185 HBRN. I don't really want to say what the powder weight was, it was over max to make major but with the hollow base, and loading a hair long that what it took and not really any bad pressure signs. Anyway, until I got to about there the SD was huge like yours.

    "get rid of the taurus"?

Why have you had a bad experience with one? have you ever shot one? Do you know anyone that has ever had/shot one? Just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean that it isn't just fine for what that person wants.

  3. I didn't read anything specific about Leatherman tools ...... I'm guessing that sarcasm was intended to spark interest ?

In which case they need to offer amnesty for anyone willing to surrender their automobile, baseball bats, knitting needles, kitchen utensils, piano wires, fountain pens, letter openers, etc.

We should all just surrender anything dangerous, lighters, matches, belts, steel toe boots, any toxic liquids, any flammable anything, Mcdonalds, Tickle me Elmo dolls, any tobacco products, any intoxicating beverages, any food that causes cancer, hmmm starting to sound like what Australia was to begin with, a penal colony. I guess they are trying to get in touch with thier roots.

I am really hoping beyond hope that there is something not true about this. :angry2:

  4. I learned how to load on a star reloader. They are the highest quality reloaders ever built IMO. But they are no longer available new. There is a website/forum deticated to them, I can't remember the site name. I use a 650 and will probably never buy/use a star again due to certain things like the case feed systems aren't all that great, no auto index, and special thread dies. Star case plates and die holders are milled steel rather than cast, etc. Search for that forum and there is more info than you know what to do with.

  5. I know this is a "what I like" but I have to give the story. I ordered a CRSpeed belt and 4 Versa pouches from maxmichele.com great prices and everything was here in just a few days, keep in mind it usually takes an extra day to get things where I live. Well the stupid post office busted one of the boxes open saran wraped in closed and didn't say anything about it. Well the box that was supposed to have 4 versa pouches only had 1. I thought maybe there was a third box but after talking via e-mail and on the phone with Mr Michel Sr. it seems the USPS strikes again. They are unfortunately out of black pouches but offered to send another color or they will send me three more the day they get them. With thier e-mail included the home phone number for both Jr and Sr., that my friends is customer service.

BTW I have also had great experiences with Shooters connection and Dawson Precision over the last week. Everyone seems to be fast and helpful. I love the sport for the shooting, but the people make me proud to share it with anyone I can drag to the range with me.

  6. BTT, old thread just wondering if anyone else has used it for limited. I've got a bunch of clays (anyone want some?), some 231 and am going to buy some universal, and titegroup to tinker with. I've been looking at the hodgon site and they are posting serious speedwith longshot and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with it. I will be working with plated 165gr and 180gr for an STI tactical in .40. I am very new to loading for .40, as in my dies were ordered an hour ago. I am looking for 170-173PF, is longshot only good for super hotstuff? Thanks in advance, I tried to search and this was most of what came up.

  7. I've only been called to jury duty once. Did the call thing for a couple days that was a definate PITA. I finally went in, there were about 20 of us or so the guy had a charge of posession of MJ. The DPS guy was really well known in the law enforcement community as being very good and fair. Well, when the judge asked if anyone was either in or directly related to someone in law enforcement 16 of us raised our hands. The look on the defendant and lawyers faces was priceless. :D

  8. OK, seems like from the other posts that you want something light enough to call shots, but not too light that you can't prep it 100%. Sound like I will be experimenting with a few trigger jobs in the future.

If I am off base, let me know. BTW sorry to XD to kinda hijack the thread for myself. :)

  9. Shot today, did week 2 day 2. I was pretty fast on the closer stuff. I decided I am going to not shoot anything closer than 15 yds until I get my trigger control better, any suggestions are appreciated.

  10. J,

As you know, I have a lot to improve on but one thing I've worked on and has helped me is......when I practice my one-handed draw with shots I have tried different stances (such as blading more and less to the target and even squaring up to the target more). I have found a stance I am comfortable with and I'm really trying to build on that. We're so used to the stances that we're taught at work that sometimes we forget we can try something different. Just food for thought.

Thanks, that's good point, I've gotta start thinking outside the BP box. I'll try that next time the sylabus calls for one handed stuff.

  11. Got an actual practice session today, first day in a while. Did some one handed draws, hits were awful unless I slowed down so much that I might has well not even use a timer. Did some Bill drills from various distances ok hits, 3.00 par time, couldn't really make more than 4-5 at 25. Trigger control still needs a lot of work, I see a lot of dry fire and snap caps in my future.

I ndon't know what happened but the schedule I am on called for El Prez to finish the day, 2 runs:

    1. 6.3 -10

    2. 5.56

    1.35 draw

    1.71 reload

    -7

YAHOO Best ever I thought something happened to the timer, about 20-29 splits and transitions could hardly tell the differences. I still need to pick up the reload. Tommorow, week 2 day 2.

  12. IMHO I agree with most of the posts on this thread in that practice is way more important than equipment.

I just bought my first STI a couple weeks ago. You can read my thread in "what I hate" as to why I haven't shot it yet. Here are my reasons for getting an STI: I think that transitioning from a 1911 to a 2011 would be easier than from a 1911 to a Glock, plus I've kinda wanted an S_I forever. I think that S_I's have more options for different sived hands, I have short very wide fingers, I just went to thin grips and will be getting a short trigger shortly for my SS.

I was ready to buy a Glock just to start shooting limited. I had a G30 that I almost made master with in IDPA the first time ever shot the classifier, and carried it for like 6 years, loved it, it was very reliable and concealed reasonably well.

I just got back into USPSA shooting less than a year ago shooting my old Kimber Custom Classic for SS and L10. I will continue to shoot mostly SS for the forseeable future especially when it is a recognized class next year.

The downsides of an S_I IMHO: They can be more finickey than a Glock. They are way more expensive and more expensive/harder to work on than a Glock. Magazines are more expensive and might need to be tuned. Here is what I expect to pay for all my stuff: the gun was $1675 used 5" tactical with a lot of work done to it. Mags, tubes 45, Grams spring/follower kit 16.5, basepad Grams/Dawson 32.5, HSMITH tuned mags from Shooters connection, 130 or 600 for 5, or Brazos tuned mags 125 each or 500 for 4. The difference is a lot of practice ammo and match fees. Everything else, mag pouches and holsters are the same or close enough not to make a difference.

As far as frame wear, I think with either gun you'll want to get a new one before you have to, unless you are shooting +P all the time.

Again IMO if you have the money and dont have a preference get an S_I, probably a used one from the classifieds here, it will probably have and acion job and maybe some other things done to it and some mags, and save you some $$. If you don't like it you can probably sell it here for what you paid for it.

BTW a lot of what I have learned is new info, and learned most of it here. So take what you want, but I am going through getting into limited now, and I will proably be posting a lot on my range diary as I get this thing running. If you want to know more feel free to PM me for more info in a couple weeks as I get everything and how it runs.

    Jason

EDIT: I missed the part where you bought a Glock, maybe someone else can benifit from what I've learned here. Good luck and practice well.

  13. Welcome to the world of reloading. Help us out; what machine do you have or are you planning on getting? What caliber(s) are you going to load for? What sport, USPSA(minor or major), IDPA, bullseye? What guns are you loading for ie stock glocks and others don't like non-jacketed bullets. Sorry for asking so much, but the more you give us the more we can help. Check out the threads on caliber specific reloading.
