  1. Depends a little on what we're shooting:

For tactical three gun, starting at the belt buckle: 3-4 Wilson Combat two round shot shell holders, pistol holster, lots of empty space, pistol mag pouch, rifle mag pouch, T-adapter to 2 Rifle mags on the thigh, 2 pistol mag pouches. I also use a bandoleer of shot shells, if the stage has a ton of shotgun hits required -- if SG roundcount is low, I might just go with the 23 rounds on/in the gun and the Wilson Combat holders. Pistol mags are high-caps, rifle mags are 30 rounders on the thigh, a 20 on the belt.

For USPSA three-gun -- not multigun: Normal pistol set-up on pistol stages, if I'm shooting limited I might place two rifle mag pouches on this belt as well, to eliminate the number of gear changes. For shotgun: A separate belt with 5 6-round strippers, and if the stage is large the bandoleer.

Thank You very much for you input, X-mas is right around the corner and I think I'm gonna cut and paste to my list. ;)

  2. I just tried to find Montanagold.com and some wierd site comes up? I put this in 45 reloading since that is what I am looking for, but did I miss something? I tried searching google and links from here, but all to the same wierd site. Maybe I'm an idiot or something. Any help appreciate it.

    Thanks,

  3. Definately 30 round mags. Go for larger ones later, if you like the game, and can get them in the state you reside. I went with Blade Tech AR mag pouches. It seems 3 gun gear products are difficult to get. I like the MagPull followers, and Ranger bases for the mags. The ranger bases, allow monopodding, or with two mags clamped together it's even more stable.

For shotgun, I went with Choate 6 round shell strippers, with some velcro strips stuck in to stabilize the shells. I carry 4 of those, and Blackhawk forearm shell holder for the Oh S... situations. The side saddle I passed on, but might add later.

What you have will get you started. Adding some of what's mentioned will make it easier in the match. Main thing, practice shotgun reloads!

4 6 round shell strippers!? Holy cow! I've got a big waist, but how do you wear all that stuff with room for a pistol and pistol mags? oh yeah, and you need a rifle mag or two right? ar people doing thigh mounted stuff, a second belt or a tacticool vest or what, I want to get into 3 gun a little bit, even though there isn't much around here, but how is everyone carrying all that stuff? Do you set up your gear for each stage i.e. moving stuff around, taking stuff on and off or what? Just wondering, pics would help 'cause I'm not very familiar.

    Thanks,

  4. Hello,

I have an STI Tactical with a double undercut scotts frame. I have just started shooting it and thought maybe my mags were out of shape and sticking. I think, after messing with it, I was trying not flip the gun so far and tweaking the grip so much the mag was sticking. Anyone else have this problem? The mags don't stick all the time, and never if while I'm not actually practicing full speed.

Edit to add I have a big button, that I like because I can almost reach it without changing my grip, and when I try that is when the mags stick.

    Thanks,

    Jason

  5. What about something like the new STI Tru-sight, except adding the "expantion chamber" to the end of a 5" gun? Or maybe just a longer barrel without the "expantion chamber"? Just another thought, you could keep the slide mass down, because it's a 5", and you could really lighten someting like that up with fluting. If the Tru-sight's legal maybe someone could try that. Again, just a thought, keeping the thread alive for a compadre.

  6. Just wondering if anyone has noticed being any slower on medium distance targets i.e 10-15 yds with a longer sight radius. I realize that some of it has to do with the guns balance, but even at the same weight do you have to work a little more to get an "accetable" sight picture with a longer barrel? I'm sure that with some has tried this with all the new 6"ers out there. I'm not looking to switch, I haven't realy even shot my limited gun yet, but it seems like shorter is faster, and longer is more accurate. Anyone have any practice data to rebuff this? I have no opinion really either way, just wondering.

  7. Seems like lots of good info and opinions here. Some more suggestions if I may, The 100yd limit might keep from scaring people away. Lots of people have never shot beyond 100, in many places it's almost impossible.

About the magazine limit, I don't know where I stand I see both side of the arguement, but the comment about Garands and SKS's being able to play sounds pretty cool, maybe not competitive, but maybe to break it up a bit. Maybe a 10 round limit in one class. You can alomst get rid of the high cap advantage with movement every 10 rounds.

Something else people might want to think about is the average age/health of a lot of IDPA shooters. A lot of IDPA shooters are people that started in IPSC early on and either didn't keep up or didn't want to keep up anymore. Yes, there are also a lot of IDPA shooters that can teach a lot of IPSC shooters a thing or two also, please don't read anything into this, or if I'm way off base, tell me to $%* off. This is not a slam in any way, I'd shoot IDPA if I could get to that range more than 2 sundays a month.

    Again just my $.02

  8. Where, where, shoot, I just sold my A-2 upper, hmm if they allow Saiga's then I can have an excuse for another upper and a saiga 12 ga. hmmm, Why do I need an excuse anyway.

OK, a little more seriously. As for comps on the rifles the A-2 "flash hider" is considered a compensator. maybe a size restriction like the tactical class would work better. Maybe an "allowed list, but I really don't like the idea, it seems to put too much emphasis on a manufaturer.

I also agree on a Power Factor instead of a size.

How about a manual rifle class, for those states that are black gun unfriendly, I know somepeople that can make a levergun sing like you wouldn't believe, ever seen a SASS match? They are slow to reload though, but with an 18 round or so limit it wouldn't take all day.

Shotguns, I don't know about a 5+1 limit on all classes of of shotgun, 10 for rifle makes a bit more sense, legalities and all that, but with a 10 round limit that might be just too much of an advantage, better to learn to reload anyway. I see no compensators, but lots of people have ported barrels on defence shotguns. MAybe a restriction on what class they are allowed in, and has to be a ported barrel, not an external comp, etc.

I understand that IDPA trys to stay away from an "arms race", but in doing so it kinda makes one in and of itself. Keep score, and declare a winner, people are gonna game it so maybe that's why the restrictions are the way they are, but if your trying to make it run what you brung/use for defence, a little leeway is nice, downloading to a certain number is something easy to do, but having to change things on a gun that you have might make people shy away more.

OK I know you were posting just for info. This is just my opinion, and what do I know, but 3 gun matches are a blast, I just wish I could get to more of them. This is just another chance someone might put one on in my area that I can try to make it to. Anyway you can't please everyone. Thanks for posting the rules as they are, nice to know there might be another 3 gun game in the future.

  9. RV is the way to go. I've got a 24 foot motorhome, and you can fit three guys, sleeps"6", and enough gear for two 3 gun matches. Yeah it only gets 10MPG, and it doesn't really like over 70 but if you think of cutting up the gas and what you save on a hotel and eating out for 3 works out pretty cheap. Oh yeah you can use it for vacation with the wife too.

  10. I don't think it was in the house or a battering ram. I think it was a backup weapon carried by one of the officers. It's the new "Deep Concealment mark II" for all those raids when a backdoor forced entry becomes neccesary. I've heard the only drawback to this weapon is the holster. Officers in the field complain of the holster being, and I quote, "A real pain in the ass." to put on and take off.
