  1. Go for it... Take you time, shoot A's, look and learn ask questions(but be careful of the guys who really get their heads into shooting a stage.. especially right before they shoot ;) also ask questions of people who are in your division the advice you get from someone shooting open may not be the same as someone shooting production....eg I plan to shoot T-1 thru T8 on the move then shoot the activator and 2 plates then the swinger and the max trap target do a reload and pickup the last 6 paper targets... this may be a little different then someone shooting Prod or L-10 or Rev would do it.

    Shoot it , be safe, have fun bring, lots of ammo and look around here for tips for preparing for a big match...

  2. Any one have a copy of the instructions for this holster?

    I just dug it out of semi retirement and I'm tring to find out which insert is for round trigger guards (Para), and which is for sqaure. (STI, SV)

    I believe that you remove the insert for use with STI/SVI and leave it in for Para's and others. You might also try the Safariland website. On my 012 I just remove the tensioning screw and pop out the insert when I use my STI, I replace it when I shoot the PARA.

    Good Luck,

    Joe

  3. I read in another thread here recently that AA#2 is not a good choice when trying to make major in 40 (due to pressure). The board members here normally suggest VV N320. According to the powder burn rate chart in the VihtaVuori loading manual N320 and AA#2 have practially the same burn rate.

    Is AA#2 as suitable a powder as N320 for making major in 40?

    Burning_Rate_Chart.pdf

    I have been running aa#2 for a few years now shooting hard cast 200 grain bulletts, no issues with power factor, or pressure. The loads are VERY consistant and predictable.

    Good Luck, be Safe & use a Chrono...

  4. I am not a gunsmith or a gunsmiths son but... couldn't you just us a round or 1/2 round file and remove a little plastic from the C-more just slotting the holes enough to get the screws in ? That way no welding.. and no problems finishing the frame...just put it all together with a little blue locktite and all is well.

    Just my $.02

    As you can see in the pictures below, the holes for my Serendipity were not drilled correctly. First let me say that it was NOT me that drilled these holes! ...in hindsight, I wish I would have done it myself because they would have been right!! Anyway, I'm not going to talk about who did this or why I didn't drill them myself. ...I'm eff'ing pissed enough and talking about it will just get me hotter.

    The question is, what the heck should I do about this?

    It appears I can force the C-more to bend enough to get the screws to go into the holes. However, being the anal engineer that I am, I'm not sure I can live with it being that way. Also, I'm guessing that torquing the C-more even a little bit can't be good for it.

    I guess another solution is to weld up the holes on one side and redrill the holes? ...This solution is a little unnerving also since it's a brand spanking new gun and never been shot. I'm imaging getting back something that will look all jacked up.

    Do you think STI would take back the frame and weld it up for me good as new??

    Thanks for the help guys,

    Darren

    With the screws installed on the left side, this is how off they are on the right side

  5. :)

    + 1 for not drilling... if it really bothers you .... get a little BONDO and some silver touchup paint....

    :P

  6. If you are on a budget and want something pretty reliable, get yourself a Mil-Spec Springfied, add the basics, AMBIES, Grip Safety, Trigger Job and Bomars, Guide Rod

    That would put you near a grand, and you would have a little control of how it went together.

  7. +1 What everyone else said. Shoot as much as you can, Join the USPSA, cut your teeth at local matches, shoot section/area matches whenever you can. Nothing & I repeat nothing gets you up to speed faster then actually competing. Practice, take notes, read Brians book, talk to and listen to experienced shooters.

    FWIW

    There are a lot more small matches around then big matches and in general you are more likely to get better & more information from the better shooters at a local club then someone who is involved in shooting a major match.

    Good luck, & Shoot Safe

  8. Hmmmm let me think about this a second......

    "Entry fee = $250

    Airline ticket =$627 (RT/Wash DC)

    Rental Car = $285

    local gas cost = $125

    Lodging = $488

    Food @$30/day= $150 maybe more

    Ammo (9mm) = $36

    sub total =$2021

    Play....@ $100/day = $500

    Shirt =$30

    Hat =$12

    sub total = $542

    $2563 for 10 minutes of actual shooting"

    Competing at the US National Championships with the Best in the Word = Priceless

    I won't be able to make it this year but if possible I'll shoot for 2008.
