  1. I lost an elevation screw on a rear sight.. 1/2 way thru a 140 point field course at the aware several years ago. Every time I pulled the trigger the rear sigth flipped up to 90 degrees...the front sight is alot more important then the rear ..... I finished us the stage 8 points down laughing my ass off with the RO...happy it was the last stage of the match...and only about 104 degrees ...

  2. Welcome to the club Tim,

I lost my footing while turning a corner on a wet field course... leaning left a little I fell on my right side... had enough time to actually get the thumb safety on before hitting the ground...the two things I remember most were the RO telling me the CLOCK was still running (thanks alot) and cleaning grass/mud and slime out of my gear for the next 2 weeks...

As an RO I had a shooter take a dirt dive on me ... after taking off for a short run on some wet grass the shooter lost her footing and took a face first trip down range....It took all I could do not to actually run past her ...(Wet grass isn't great for stopping on either)..since then on field courses that require running I usually allow a good deal of space between me and the shooter :)

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it ;)

  3. Searching the threads for 200 grain loads there wasn't a lot of mention of their performance at longer ranges of say 35-50 yards. How's your favorite 200 grain load at 50 yards?

I am using 4.3 of AA2 with hardcast lead, fed primers. When I shoot from a rest at 50 yards I can keep my groups under 3". Alot I believe depends on the barrel (.400 Utilmatch) and the gun has accurails.

Otherwise it is a nice load, like always use a chrono start low and be safe..

  4. I am with Renee on this one... find a good local machine shop or gunsmith and ask them to thin up the blade for you. That way you don't have to worry about finding anything to match the cut.

I have had it done several times start with .110 blade trim off .075 each side you get a .95 blade. Takes maybe 30 minutes if they have to set up the milling machine...

    Good Luck,

  5. We had an issue here, on a bi weekly basis we had a contractor come in and clean our data center (usually a wednsday) and on the weekend we would get water alarms from our underfloor moisture detection system...turned out one of their number thougth it would be OK to carry a bucket with water into the DC....

Now we run 1/2 dozen roombas :0

"That place was so unreal...can you believe in 1999 they had just amended corporate policy to allow women to wear pants and no panty hose?!"

I'd be more infavor of a policy that forbids women to wear pants or panty hose <_<

Sorry Carina I couldn't help myself...

  6. Put less emphasis on fast splits they will come later (and they will come later), work on the basics target to target transitions are where you will make up time in competition.

Practice once a week is good, twice a week is great.... grab anyones book on practice & training, (Jerry, Saul, Brian .....) check out traininig techniques here...in one year your splits will be where you want thwm without any special effort...

  7. Sounds like maybe you missed a mandtory reload.. thats usually a good way to add a lot of penalties... like one per shot fired ....

It is always a good idea to walk along with the range officer when they are scoring your targets.. eliminates the chance for surprises later..

    Take Care

Keep Shooting it only gets better :)

  8. I have a couple to add...

Shooting my p-14 several years ago I sheared the lugs off my barrel, when the slide would not return to battery .. I dropped the mag and the slide and barrel casually flew off the top if the gun....oops.... The nice folks at barstow replaced it and it is a tack driver once more ;)

Same gun different match... shooting the last stage of a very hot AWARE several years ago, a nice little 140 point field course, After engaging the first 6 targets something caught my eye...it was my rear sight flipping up 90 degrees after the elevation screw broke....I finished the stage and after unload & show clear the RO commented that I guess only the front sigth was important ... cause I was only down 8 points ....

    One more..

Shooting an Area Match in VA several years ago using my SS 1911.. bobbled a reload...round stayed on top of the mag just flipped around backwards.....:) slide came forward pushed it about 1/2 into the chamber... zeroed the stage.. had to poke it out with a pencil...:)

Thats all I got for now...I am sure if I keep shooting I will see more weird stuff....

  9. Guys,

FWIW I have 5 plain old STI Mags.. all use Dawson +1's & Grams Follower/Spring kit for the STI... I get 20 rounds of 40 in each (very tight but works) 19 reloadable. This gives me 20 plus 1 in the tube....that works every time....all the mags on my belt at the start carry 19 rounds...

  10. I had a fat case cause my gun to not get fully into battery.....in the middle of a field course I was in the process of burning down.....

1). Was unable to rack slide...

    2). Dump mag......

3). Grab the forward cocking serations & pulled.... nothing...

4). Held the slide by forward serations.. slammed other hand into grips while pulling on the slide...gun goes bang....oops... primer pierced by ejector....

5). Dumb look to RO and asked his assistance in holstering my now unloaded & shown clear firearm...

6). Clean up mess .. put gun away....

7). Go visit my physician who says the wound looks like it was cleaned up very well and should heal nicely...

8). 30 Days later have the 3/8" x 1/2" piece of brass removed from my index finger...shoot with a golf glove the rest of the year....

9). Shoot 45 for the next 6 years....;)

    Be careful out there kids...

  11. Hey guys,

I have to call this unsafe gun handeling. My call would be to stop the shooter , have him unload & show clear then explain my call. Based on the description I would say this shooter was never in control.

    Just my 2 cents worth...

  12. For what is is worth, I shot the P-1445 for several years, my mags get 17 or 18 rounds and all run reliably. I use Para tubes with either dawson or grams followers, ISMI springs cut to length and dawson pads.

All the tubes hold 17 no prob however I can force 18 in but it is a bitch getting the mags to reload.

    Just my 2cents,

  13. Hey Pablo,

In 45 I use all Dillon

In 40 am using all dillon thought about the Lee FCD but so far have had no need.

Just take your time when setting up and call dillon with any questions. A good investment is a toolhead for each caliber and maybe 4-5 primer tubes (makes loading go a lot faster.

BTW I have a spare set of 45 dies and conversion kit if interested..

    Good Luck,

    Joe
