  1. I wouldn't use a CCF race frame unless your having a professional build the gun, and there is a guy on here that was shooting one of those SJC slide on compensator's last year and he really liked it, me personally if you buy a compensated barrel and a slide ride dot you will get a feel for open for about the same money. I have 2 SJC open guns a 40 and a 9mm. My 40 open is cool but my 9 is better.

Loading/shooting 9 major just scares the crap out of me. :surprise:

My 9mm open Glock makes major with no problems and is easy to load with WSF - 7.0 grains and 125 fmjs and HP's. No pressure signs.

  2. Thanks for the responses. I'm curious why you want to run a Limited 40 as minor pf. I have a major pf 40 S&W load of 4.7 gr WST w/180 lead. What I'm after is a light spring setup and mouse fart load for steel plate, NOT a setup for USPSA; already got that.

It would probably be pretty hard to get lower then a 8lb recoil spring in a Tangfo. Start with a 10 and as you soften the load move down or you could even snip off coils. I could get my 9mm with minor loads to work with a 8lb recoil spring and it was reliable stripping rounds.

  3. Anybody have a feel for how lite a spring set I can run in a Witness Match in 40 S&W for steel plates? Maybe a starter load w 180 grain lead.

    Thx

Probably test some clays at like 3.5 it takes me about 4.2 or 4.1 with lead to make major.

  4. I have an older Witness full-size in wonder finish, chambered for .38 super. I've got a stock EAA magazine and two MecGar magazines, and all three nose-dive when loaded past 8-10 rounds.

I know the 9MM magazines are noted for this, but is it common with the .38 super as well? I've also had problems with rounds 'binding' when loading more than 12 or so; the rounds wedge in the magazine, lock and allow the topmost round or two to actually fall out, as they're under no spring tension. (This is with factory Remington and Winchester WB ammo.)

With less than 8 rounds, this thing shoots very nicely with either 38 super or 9x23. I'm just wondering if there's any way to get the mags to work at capacity?

    Thanks,

    Larry

I have a number of Tanfoglio full sized 38 supers and I have never had any problems with any round nose super in stock mags or using Grams setup with Hennings base pads. Check the OAL on your white box. I try never to load longer then 1.245 and I know factory lengths can be a little longer and that may do what you are describing.

  5. The slide on my Tanfoglio Limited 9mm is a bit loose on the frame. I probably should have checked this before I bought it, but is there anything I can do to make it tighter? Will the loose fit reduce accuracy? Any help would be great, thanks! Also got my 2nd USPSA competition this weekend, shooting limited.

A little side to side slop in a Limited or even an open gun isn't that important, what is important is the lockup on the barrel. With the gun in battery and the hammer cocked push down on the hood of the barrel, it should not move. Movement of the hood when in battery will cause accuracy problems. Next check the barrel fit in the end of the slide can you wiggle the barrel around? It should be snug. Up and down slop in the slide is worse than side to side but when the barrel locks up good the gun is still very accurate.

Best thing is to get some confidence in the gun. Yes, that's right confidence. Take it and shoot it from a bench rest and make sure the sights are lined up and shoot some groups at a distance you are capable of from the rest. If you can keep it on a 5" stick on at 20 yards you are good to go, yes that means you can hit poppers and A Zones at common distances. Don't expect match quality accuracy from the cheapest ammo you could find at WalMart.

Yeah Ronnie is right on. Accuracy is about barrel lock up. I have a number of different tangfo's some are loose, none of as tight as a well fitted 1911 but I have never had problems with accuracy even on the one with the most slop. Test it out see how it shoots. One thing though that I have come to believe is that these guns run a little better with the tolerances not so tight.

  6. The crown on my Match 40 is similar to the what the original poster describes. Mine shoots very well so far. I'm more concerned with the ding/dent on the very end (face) of my barrel...it looks pretty bad (came that way from the factory), but fortunately doesn't quite touch the crown.

    Could we see some pictures?

  7. Have a Witness Elite Match in 10mm and the crown on the barrel was terrible. Had a local gunsmith re-cut it before I ever took it to the range. Shoots great.

Now I have a new factory 40S&W barrel that drops into the gun like it was made for it, but with the same crown issue. Is this normal? The bottom half of the barrel has a clear bevel and the top is rounded. This is going to release the bottom of the bullet before the top. Can not imagine that it will be accurate, but admit I have yet to shoot it.

    Any suggestions.

My question would have been how did it shoot before you had a new crown cut. I have about 10 different tangfo's and never had a crown issue or one that wasn't dead on with most any loads.

  8. Let's let Henning tweak them and see what he can get out of them. We need to get to 23/4 rounds. Also, is there a big stick coming out Henning, or do we have to get the cutoff wheel and the welder out? If we do that, do we have springs and followers to make it work?

    JT

Yeah Jim, the problem isn't holding 15 or 18 rounds its that it cant hold 22-24 for open... when someone loads to 23 and runs 5-10 mags through it without problems ill be happy.

  9. As I'm updating the webshop I just added :

Double Alpha's new 3-1 Tanfoglio / C-More scope mount. A fantastic new scope mount which features built-in Blastshield, adjustable thumb rest and a folding kick stand you can use only when needed.. Some nice design by Saul on this one. I have them in stock.

    check out:

    Tanfoglio Scope Mounts and accessories

Will we see one of those slick micro aimpoint mounts anytime soon?

  10. Is a 7.62x25 Tokarev conversion even possible for the Witness? I know the TOK is about 1.5mm longer than even the 38 super but is there enough room in the the mag for them? With the large amount of cheap surplus ammo this could be a very reasonable shooter.

Its probably possible once Henning gets his barrels going. But I havent seen one listed for that caliber. I assume you want it because of its velocity? if you look at the super with lite bullets its a mover too.

  11. Other bits:

Extra long firing pin from Henning - a must have if you will run a 13lbs hammer spring.

Sear and Hammer from Henning - I won't shoot my limited custom without it!

I also use Srpinco Guide Rod (just personal preference)

    Cheers

I could not find any sear and hammer on his homepage. What does these parts contribute to? And why won't you shoot without it?

Why do you use this particular guide rod?

    http://www.henningshootsguns.com/shop/triggerparts.html

The hammers and sears Henning sells are excellent, they have a better angle then the factory but even more important then that they do not wear out. They are very durable. I think Henning has one of the same design hammers he has had for 10 years...

The Sprinco's some people believe help with felt recoil. When I have shot my limited 9mm with 130PF load I have always just used a 13lb hammer spring, 8lb recoil spring and never had a problem.

Honestly I am not sure what parts you are allowed to change out for ipsc production so you might want to double check on that.

  12. I would really like to try this myself but have no idea where to start in terms of required tools, process etc.. And I bet I'm not the only one wondering!

How about posting a how-to-do-it-video on youtube? Or a written step-by-step explaination?

I'm sure it would be of great value to a lot of us reading the EAA forum - if someone would please enligthen us :-)

I guess first step is to have a mill? do you have one?

  13. Just bought a limited in 40cal. Love the gun. I want to ajust the over travel on the trigger but it feels so tight that I'm afriad it will round off the allen if I turn it any harder then I am. Any tricks to breaking it loose?

Heat, is about it... pull the trigger out and heat it up and change it to a different loctite. They all feel like that, just make sure not to use a ball end allen.

  14. I was wondering if anybody has a good minor load for a 38 Super limited.

I'm using IMR 7625 with a 124 FMJ for my major loads in my open gun and wanted to use the same for the minor loads in limited, I just don't know how much to powder I should cut back.

I could load up a lot of different loads and chrono them but I don't have one and don't want to borrower one multiple times. I just want a place to start.

    Thanks for any input.

Whats your load right now. I am running 7.7 to make major with 7625.
