  1. I’m at 1.07” in my gen 5 Glock 19 barrel. Anyone have any experience with these rounds? at higher lengths like 1.08 and 1.09 I would get the occasional fail to feed and get caught on feed ramps. I doubt it’s the powder load because I used 5.3gr CFE-p for all lengths. i have read in one post the round likes 1.065 can anyone confirm?
  2. Hi Guys - Newbie here, I have a brand new Dillon 650, with all the trimmings, and I am having trouble with reloading for accuracy on my first few attempts of reloading. I am not pleased with the results of my first reloads after investing close to 3 grand in all of my accessories and press. I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong. One obvious potential problem area, is that my OAL is inconsistent, it ranges from 2.240 to 2.267. Before I get to that, let me share my results. Constants: AR15- Faxon Gunner Barrel, 18" 1:8 twist, AIM Surplus Black nitride BCG, Timney3.5lb trigger - Sandbag bench shooting. 100 yard range - mild weather/wind Vortex Spitfire 3x Prism Scope Benchmark:. Federal Gold Medal Match 223 77 Grain BTHP - Result 0.45" average Mean Center Radius - 10 rounds group Reload: Sierra Match King 77 Grain BTHP Lake City Brass - mixed Once Fired - trimmed to 1.750 (range of 1.740 to 1.752) (flash holes not trimmed) Powder H335 22.5 grains CCI 400 primers Press: Dillon 650 OAL - Set to 2.25 but having inconsistency problems of 2.240 to 2.267 Result: 0.96" Mean Center Radius - 16 round group - Why is that my reloads are twice as inaccurate as my commercial stuff? I was hoping to get at least the same level of accuracy with the same bullets as the commercial stuff. The vortex spitfire reticle is not well suited for sub-moa shooting, its hard to see on this target, and when I turn on the illumination, it expands the size of the reticle. I could probably improve both groups with a scope that has more zoom to it. What am I doing wrong with my reload process, and is it normal to have that big of a difference in OAL on my bullet seating die? How can I fix that? Could that really cause such a difference in an AR? Thanks, Just_Me
  3. I finally setup my S1050. Everything seems OK with one exception. I am having inconsistent OAL readings. During my initial test rounds, I was using random range brass (mixed head stamps). After reading a couple of threads, I decided to sort my brass by head stamps and give that a try. I tried a few things and was still getting inconsistent OALs, so I decided to order the Redding Competition Pro Micrometer seating die. After setting up the Redding die, I am getting a more consistent reading, but I have noticed a two scenarios: 1) When I adjust OAL for a single round, I can get a perfect reading (Say 1.1350) most of the time. However, when I start loading rounds (and the shell-plate is full) my OAL have a variation. It will be either shorter or longer (Sorry I don't recall which one exactly). 2) If I try to adjust the seating die with shell-plate full, it seems to take a long time (and rounds) before I can get one accurate OAL. And if I remove a case or two (To by-pass primer station) the reading will be off again. I believe my process / approach could be incorrect? What am I doing wrong? Is my shell plate too loose? (Press is brand new). The closest I can get with a shell plate full is a .002 variation (Either short or long). I will appreciate any input/suggestions on this.
  4. Hello, I am a new reloader. I am loading 9mm. I see the SAAMI drawing with its value for Over All Length of the Cartidge. This seems to be listed as OAL or COAL in different sources. It seems dependent on which reloading manual you first read to describe the measurement of the length of the Cartridge. Either way this is the Maximum length that firearms manufactures use when they design their products. When I look at Load Data I noted that Lee makes it perfectly clear that the OAL they list for a powder charge is the Minimum Over All Length for the Cartidge. Hodgdon, for example, lists an OAL in their Load Data. This value is generally understood to be the length of the cartridge that they tested in their laboratory to create their velocity & pressure. With a 9mm there is a max of 1.169 listed and load data is typically down around 1.1 depending on the powder you are using. i have read to use a length that functions reliably in your firearm or firearms. With the longest that will function being the best choice. I measured factory ammo and it seemed to be in the 1.15 range. I see many reloaders in forums using the min value in the powder data to set their length. This seems odd to me for 9mm. Is there a reason ? http://www.saami.org/PubResources/CC_Drawings/Pistol/9mm Luger - 9mm Luger +P.pdf
  5. I'm experimenting with several different bullet types and vv n320 and 3n37 at the moment. Using the published VV data at this URL... http://www.lapua.com/en/products/reloading/vihtavuori-reloading-data/relodata/6/34 They use a COL of 1.142 for every load I see and with the hornady 147 XTP they seem like they are super long, ie very little ends up in the case. Anyone have any experience with these?
