Anyone loading .38 Short Colt with thier 9mm setup?

I just picked up a new/used S&W 37 and figure I'll shoot barely 50 rounds a month, if that from it. I don't know that it's worth buying a second toolhead for the 1050.

For practice ammo, I was thinking about buying 1000 .38 short colt cases and loading using my 9mm toolhead with just the sizing die replaced.

Anyone else try this, or am I out to lunch?

Bingo! 38/357 sizing die, 9mm flare, seater, and crimp die. You be in business!

Lots of data in the Revo forum as well.

If you need something short colt, just ask!

Doug, are you shooting short colt for Bianchi also?

Doug is dead on. You want a straight sizing die not one with a taper, it will help with the relaod into the chambers. I think the 9mm is a little wider (0.3926" vs .3790") at the bottom of the case and you may not get it properly sized to the rim. But the rest of the dies are perfect for the job.

You will have to adjust all the dies to suit the shorter case and readjust back to 9mm. If you can live with this then have at it. A new tool head might be a little rich for what you are doing. Look around for a used 550 in 9mm and get the 38/357 sizing die from Dillon.
