2010 Carolina Cup

as I understand it the margin of victory was a miss on a popper and a forced reload on the last stage. Had that shot hit the popper Mr Buckland would have lost by 1 sec. Such as luck goes.

Try again ffl - I made the same reload on the same popper on the same stage - stage 16 - and he won that stage by a whopping 0.8 seconds. That delta was because it was a prone position and Cliff is about a foot closer to the ground than me (Vg = 32ft/sec/sec - you do the math...) You'll have to come up with another excuse for Cliff. He'll need the extras anyway. My guess is it was the half-hearted, milk-toast, girl scout reload technique USPSA moon-clipped revolver shooters lull themselves into using with loose brass that bit Cliff. Those work about 15 out of 16 times....

Is that the best you USPSA guys can send us?

Seriously - thanks to Cliff for making the trip North and John for talking him into it. We had lot's of great revolver competition - 36 in all. I watched him on a couple stages I was working - he is an amazing revolver shooter and I was nervously watching the board all day Sunday. With the right equipment (and no John - it is not a 2" 66 shooting 170 PF ammunition), he'll be a real problem. I hope he enjoyed the match - it is one of the best in the country. I wish I could have stayed and talked longer at the BBQ - but I had a 19:20 flight out of RDU to catch. I'll reserve the Sunday AM flight next year.

Now, if you really want to see a close race - check out the ESR results. My good friend, fellow team mate and nemesis Curt Nichols bested the Cheetah by ~0.6 seconds. He had to use all his voodoo soul-stealing power to pull that one off.

This match is GREAT revolver competition - it is not to be missed! And with 12 rd stages, you don't have to settle for a middle-of-the-pack finish. A medium stage IDPA match like the Cup is pretty well balanced for everyone. Cliff, Curt, Gary and I would have finished in the middle of MA in the semi-auto divisions. How about that? It really is a lot of fun. Now, if we can just convince HQ to let us run 4" 627s in ESP......

It will be my turn to be the fish out of water in August at the Area 7.

Best Regards,

Craig

This was my first Carolina Cup and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Like the others said it was very revolver friendly and the rest was up to you (don't miss a shot if you can help it!). I've never seen that many revolver shooters in one place.

I really wanted to watch some of the Experts and Masters shoot but that never worked out. Definately going next year though I might shoot a 3" 66 instead of my 686.

adam

SSR SS perhaps until the next classifier

Craig,

you beat the Great Cliff Walsh, I had no Idea :surprise: I just got the gossip from (failure to do right .com) and did not know who just that you beat someone.

you do realize that on stage 1 at the IRC cliff had his gun break and he removed the yoke screw and finished the stage instead of taking misses.

must have had only 2 in the class  ?

So now that he's use the both "broken gun" AND "I was only 1 shot away" excuses, which one will be next?

All kidding aside - the fact that it was so close in a sport he's only recently started shooting is a testament to his skills. He is VERY good. Transitioning between sports is a skill I haven't mastered yet. Cliff has. He is one of the best revolver shooters I've ever seen and we're glad to have him compete with us in IDPA. On top of all that - he''s a great guy.

Best Regards,

Craig

PS - I'm not sure if you knew your link was indeed live. I'm sure it's a typo.

PSS if we called it "Match DQ-unsportsmanlike conduct 10.6" or "Forbidden action 2.3.1.1/3.2.6/10.2.11/App.A3" would it be better for you?

O.K. all B.S. aside. This was a great match, as Frank Glover always puts on a great match. I am fortunate enough to live close to "The Range" and shoot his local matches 2 times a month, unless a major USPSA match is at the same time. Shooting both games, and lets remember that these are games, I do favor one sport over the other, but enjoy both. It's time, in my humble opinion, for all shooters to try the other sport, and stop bad mouthing the opposite sport's rules or lack of rules as the case may be. It's all trigger time with great people. With that being said, the battle between Cliff and Craig was tight 'till the last shot on the last stage. I was there to witness the epic battle come to it's unfortunate conclusion. My hero, Mr. Walsh, "The Grand Imperial Majestic Revolver Ruler" ( I get $10.00 every time I say that) had a piece of brass split, and it is in my possession, this was the obvious reason for the last shot not hitting the popper, forcing Cliff to reload and fire again from prone costing him about 3 seconds and the match. Being the gentleman that I am, I have refused some offers from collectors around the world for obscene amouts of cash, for this historic piece of "Cup" history. I feel it is only proper to give Mr. Buckland the chance to own this very important link to "The Carolina Cup" for a paultry $1,000.00. It will look great on the mantle in his home and when people ask about it, he can explain it's significance to the "Cup". Cliff has assured me that his share of the proceeds will go to the children, as all he does is for the children, by putting the funds in the "Cliff stops kids from drinking fund" ( if he drinks it all, there is none left for them, what an honorable and noble cause that Cliff is a part of). My share will be spent on primers and bullets, so some day I might beat one of these two great shooters. Great job Craig and congrats on your win, pleasure and honor to shoot a match with you. Hope to see you next year, John

I wish I could have - my travel budget has gotten pretty tight over the last 2 seasons. This whole work thing is really messing my hobby.

I'm going to the USPSA Area 7 match this year. It will be my first USPSA major match, so I'm looking forward to it. I hope I can find a 5" 625 (and LP primers!) before then.

Darn!!! I would have loved to have been able to compete in the Carolina Cup, but my other athletic endeavour required me to miss it this year. I had to be the Competition Manager for the Olympic Style Fencing events at the State Games of North Carolina on the 20th. I could not manage to get the time off for The 18th or 19th after getting the time off for US Fencing Summer Nationals in July.

Awww.....What am I complaining about  I qualified and get to compete in my 9th US Fencing Summer Nationals in the last 10 years this July. :D I love shooting revolver in competition, and would love to have seen how I would have done in a field of revolver shooters this large. I'll just have to make it to the Memphis Revolver Challenge in October and test my mettle there. :P

Do you take a knife (Foil) to a Gun Fight, or the other way around? :roflol:

I'm going to step in here and defend IDPA shooters (at least the revos). The match this weekend was excellent. The stages were imaginative and challenging; many of which could have been in a USPSA match. I had a great time and I will go back. This match did require a high degree of accuracy, which kicked my butt. I probably added 20% to my time with sloppy shooting. Our old buddy Gary Cuttitta was there and came a CH away from beating the IDPA national champ. We now have to add Craig Buckland to the ever-lengthening list of people who have made me their bitch. Don't worry Mike; you will always be my first.

Why can't we all just get along???

PS. I am still wearing my vest. I think it is my new look.

I bet the vest holds more bullets than a moonclip

Keep in mind the IDPA vest only looks completely correct with the '70s porn star mustache to go with it.

Who has a stache they want to deal????
