bball97
Hi all, I am finishing up loading 3.1 gr. W-231 with 148 gr. double ended wadcutters. I am just target shooting with my concealed carry S&W M&P 340 357, & Ruger Security Six 357 with a 6" barrel. I want to try out the WST powder that I just bought, and will be ordering some different bullets. What are your recommendations for bullet weight & shape, as well as your favorite WST load? Thanks in advance.

kframe_mike
I use 2.7grs with 148 DEWCs for a nice plinking load and 3.7grs with 158 LRNs for everything else,ICORE,etc. My wife really likes the wadcutter loads,or should I say cardcutter loads. No kidding, she can cut cards on edge pretty regularly at 7-10 yards S/A with those wad loads.-Mike

bball97
Thanks guys, this all helps tremendously! now I have a better idea of where to start. My manuals do not have much info on WST. Have the new Speers manual back-ordered from BE, should be coming in June hopefully. I am keeping a list of the recipes & comments in my notebook. Keep 'em comin'! This forum rocks! What do you mean "corn"? The unburnt powder looks like tiny corn kernels..... WST tends to leave a highly visible residue comprised of unburnt powder and black soot - especially light or reduced loads . Sorry to drag out an old thread...but I'm curious if the 3.3gr WST 148gr DEWC data above is from any published source, or something you worked up or got from others? I just tried loading some 148gr DEWC in .38 special brass with 2.6gr WST and the velocity was kind of low (660fps from a 4" barrel). I'd like to drive them a little faster, but I don't have any good data for this bullet type/weight.
