Jerome Poiret
Hi the revo fans ! I'm looking for an extra long firing pin for my S&W 686. I think it's the old style, hammer mounted. Does anybody make some ? I'm having ignition problems (light strikes), even with federal "soft" primers. A friend of mine machined the frame, so the hammer goes a little further, but I'd rather change the firing pin. Thanks.
Bubber
Jerome, I believe a K frame Hammer Nose is longer than the L frame, not real sure. However I would look for other remedies first. Full seating the primers, ensuring the hammer is not dragging on the frame, debris in the frame and the such. When you add length to the Hammer Nose you might run the risk of putting a hole in the primer and allowing some gases to escape through it. A long time ago there were a couple of L Frames that did that, not sure of the cause though. Well off to the range. Good Luck rdd
Ross Carter
If you want a little more firing pin protrusion you can carefully clean up the area on the frame where the hammer impacts. Takes careful set up and small mill. Some folks just take it off the hammer face.
