Nick Weidhaas
Anyone tried Hodgen's HS-6 in .45ACP? I know it is not popular in this load, but I have 3lbs that I tried for .20ga that I want to shoot up. I need suggestions for a load with a 200gr. SWC Precision Bullet, Winchester Brass, Win or Fed LP primer, and HS-6? I'm getting back into IPSC (Limited 10) and want to shoot up this powder. I always shot CLAYS before but I am out. Will likely go back later. Thanks, Nick-
Flexmoney
Hodgdon lists a load with HS-6 and a 200g JHP. (check the OAL) I am sure that if you contacted Hodgdon, they would have a load to suggest with a SWC. http://www.hodgdon.com/ Electronic Mail help@hodgdon.com Telephone 913-362-9455 Fax 913-362-1307 Postal Address P.O. tightloop
You may find a load for HS 6 but it will be very dirty. That is rather slow powder and needs a high intensity cartridge, not some low pressure round like the ACP.
ErikW
Yeah I've used it with 230 gr LRN coated bullets. It wasn't too dirty and it was surprisingly soft, for a "too slow" powder. If you can't find data for your lead 200, you could back a few tenths off the powder charge of their published jacketed 200 load.
Flexmoney
It wasn't too dirty and it was surprisingly soft, for a "too slow" powder. Our local range owner uses HS-6 in his 180g loads for the 40. I haven't found any fault with his loads when I have shot them. Kinda weird. It should be too slow.
gm iprod
Hodgdon list the following. 200gr LSWC and HS6. Start 8.2gr = 860fps (172pf) Max 8.4gr = 907fps (181.4pf) I tried it but my Para P13 hated it so I went back to Clays and 185gr. It works a treat in a friend of mine's Marlin 45Carbine.
