doctabako
We have just organized a gun club in our town, and during one of the club shoots a shooter from another club approached me and said that IPSC rules state that left handed shooters are required to have ambi-safeties or at least a right sided safety installed. I am a lefty and compete with either a 1911 or an HK USP .45 Std, both of which only have a left side safety or control lever. I know it's pretty easy to have one installed especially in the 1911 but for my HK its taking forever to order the necessary conversion parts. I have read the IPSC rule book and there is nothing there that states that lefties are required to have either a right sided or ambi-safety. Can someone enlighten me on this. By the way I don't have any trouble operating the safeties of both guns with my left trigger finger so I'm not bothered with my guns the way they are. thanks for any reply. lynn jones
doctabako, did this shooter happen to give you the rule number? i didn't think so. no rule number, no rule. lynn jones
doctabako
lynn jones No, he did not, I even told him that if there was such a rule, it would be tantamount to discrimination. As I said, I read the rule book after he said this and couldn't find it. Just wanted to confirm it in this forum, thanks for the reply.
Vince Pinto
No such rule exists.
rhino
I know Herr Pinto does not need my agreement, but I concur that no such rule exists. The guy is either pulling your leg, or he's ignorant of his own ignorance. The latter is unfortunately too common, and often accompanied by an overly aggressive "I know I'm right, why don't you?" attitude. In those cases, facts, logic, and the actual rule book won't help you much. If it's a problem that's keeping you from shooting, perhaps you could send a letter to NROI and have them send a letter to the guy telling him he's way off base.
