Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've always been a fan of the .45 and have stubbornly stuck to it when I started shooting in IPSC competitions last year . As you gain more experience in competitions, you get to realize that you really are at a disadvantage with the lesser round count of a pistol in .45 cal specially in Long courses. All things being equal, the guy who reloads least ends up with the best time so I decided to make the change 4 months ago to an STI .40 and have never looked back. I'm still partial to 200 gr heads in my .40 as the recoil impulse is closer to that of a .45 which I like. For personal defense I still carry a Glock 30.
  2. I just switched to a Brazos Microdot 2 weeks ago and although I have yet to use it in a major competition(used to have a serrated front post) in practice I've found that it does help a lot in picking up the front sight faster. At short distances up to 10 meters focusing on the target with the F-O appearing as a fuzzy dot over the target(I call my shots at the top edge of the fuzzy dot) results in accurate and fast A hits. Beyond that distance I do have to shift my focus to the front sight (top of post)after I've acquired my target. It does need some getting used to so I'm still keeping an open mind if it really makes a difference as regards to results in a match
  3. Dirty Harry Series Outlaw Josey Wales Heartbreak Ridge Full Metal Jacket Magnificent Seven Tombstone Young Guns series Platoon Blackhawk Down Battle of Midway King Kong Star Wars Trilogy LOTR Trilogy Harry Potter Movies Battle of the Bulge ET Legends of the Fall MIB series Red Violin Lost Boys Indiana Jones Series The Mummy series Back to the Future Omen series Troy Saving Private Ryan Towering Inferno Neptune Factor The Abyss Titanic Philadelphia Experiment Schindler's List The Piano and a lot of others that escape me at the moment
  4. Whoa! I've done that a couple of times in recent matches, especially on strong to weakhand transfer stages. Good thing I wasn't cited(the R.O. was probably not paying attention to the conga line). Thanks for the heads up
  5. Thanks:) I'll keep that in mind. For the record this was the response I got from Brazos Custom when I sent him a PM in the other forum. Thanks Bob But you're right, we do have expensive toys, I'll just let a smith do it.
  6. Thanks guys. Jasonub I was eyeing this microdot after searching the web for the different kinds and chose its design over all the others. Actually seeing it on your pistol clinched my decision. Guess I'll opt to have a gunsmith install it just to be sure. If you were to choose between Mang Dolfo of Northstar or the Smiths at True Weight to install this sight who would you choose. I don't want to have some amateur smith practice with a perfectly good pistol(like me) May give me probable cause to go ballistic in case they botch up the job.
  7. Just received my Brazos lightning rod Microdot for my STI and am gathering enough courage to install it myself. Have a few questions. When removing the old sight, does it matter if you tap it out to the left or to the right? When installing the new sight do I install it in the reverse order wherein I tapped the old sight out, or does it even matter? I've tried to do some preliminary tap outs but the sight won't budge. Will it take considerable force to remove it? Thanks for any help.
  8. and all are of the same ethnicity too. Kabayan
  9. Vasoconstrictors being sympathomimetics also dilate your pupil a bit. Accomodation which is a process which happens when we focus on near objects like the front sight in our case entails pupillary constriction among other things. The net effect is that your ability to focus is diminished as stated by kevin c. For those with dry eyes, the decreased blood flow caused by the vasoconstriction also affects the tear glands affecting the production of tears, thereby drying your eyes more. Artificial lubricants therefore are the recommended route. Hope you're still awake, sorry to bore you with the details I'm an Ophthalmologist too, same as Eye Cutter
  10. I want one of those. My present set-up is still 4 reloadable 17's with 1 that can fit 18 at LAMR(don't use it on major competitions, afraid of binding at a most inopportune moment).
  11. Cheer up Aside from trying too hard(which I think happened here) which made you lose your edge, you may just have had a bad day(it happens, you know). Shrug this off and see you at the next competition. Besides, if I'm not mistaken the good Col. was match director at the Varilla Cup so he didn't compete. I'm sure you'll beat him next time Lito too
  12. Thanks Jasonub. That's what I was thinking, was just worried that something may snap if I do that. Anyway, see you at PNPA. I'll be there on Friday and Saturday
  13. How do you remove your AFTEC extractors, the STI that I bought second hand came with one and I'm afraid of messing it up. Its not like an ordinary extractor that you can pull out easily after taking out the firing pin stop as the extractor hook catches on the breech face(by spring tension) at the extractor tunnel exit when you try to remove it. I'm guessing that I would have to exert some pressure pushing out the extractor hook so it clears the extractor tunnel and just yank it out. Is this the way to do it? Thanks
