Multiple shots on same target

Say you have a shot limited stage where you have to shoot 4-6 shots on a paper or steel target. In my head should I mentally be counting:

1,2,3,4,5,6

or should I just to think:

ba,ba,ba,ba,ba,ba

The latter method feels faster and works well for me up to 3 shots, but beyond that I’ve had some minor difficulties. I haven’t shot the wrong number yet, but I’ll sometimes get some odd pauses between rounds trying to get the count right and I don’t feel like I’m shooting as fast as my sight picture would dictate. Is there a right or best way to do this?

You're used to counting to two, right?

1,2...1,2...1,2

Just like shooting 3 targets, except you have zero transition.
