The barrel gap on my 25-2 excessive and crooked. As much as 8 thou on one side and 16 thou on the other. Can this cause bullet splatter to hit me and competetors behind me? thanks

That is way too much. S&W specs are .003 to .006. For lead bullets .005 to .006 works best. Also, check the front of the cylinder for runout,

some of them will vary a few thou. as they go around. A good smith can set the barrel back a turn and face off the cylinder and recut the

forcing cone.

What it can cause is poor accuracy. Check the cylinder throats also. The mis-shaped cylinder is the reason my 25-2 now wears a 625 cylinder.

Thank you Randy Lee

That is one screwed up forcing cone. The factory says SW should gap between .003 and .010, but I have seen new guns as wide as .015". The crooked thing is not unusual, even on new guns. But, worst I have seen is maybe .003" side to side variation. Yours needs to be fixed.

Its a mint condition 25-2 that I bought a couple of years ago. One other wierd thing is the barrel is slightly over "tightened" so the front sight is slightly off when you line up the sights. I have two guns from S&W built on SuperBowl Monday. This one and my 625-7pc. My 625 is now shooting much better after having the barrel throat recut. The 25-2 still manages 3.5" groups at 25 yards. But every once in a while I feel something hitting me in the face. Time to go to the gun Doctor!
