bountyhunter
The on field reporter at the Packers game yesterday said she noticed something: the benches on the sidelines are hollow and have hot air pumped into them.... at least, they did on the Packers side of the field keeping their bench sitting players nice and warm. The reporter said she checked the bench on the Giants side and it was ice cold.....? Wonder if there was any follow-up coverage on that? Ah: apparrently, it is a Green bay tradition: Packers.com » News » Stories » October 14, 2005: Listen To Radio ... Packers fans unplugged the Cowboys' heated benches during the game while others passed out after the game -- a result of the enormous amounts of alcohol they consumed www.packers.com/news/stories/2005/10/14/1 Edited January 21, 2008 by bountyhunter

Rocket35
I remember hearing her say that there WAS heat pumping into the benches, but it wasn't keeping the benches warm.

bountyhunter
At those temps ...... I doubt it made much difference. Au contrare.... The heated sideline benches also have a feature that players appreciate. There are slots blowing heat underneath the bench for players to place their hands. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=101486 The Packers have two ways to warm up on the sideline:• The “hot seats” bench is heated up to 185 degrees. “You could fry an egg on there,” Batty said. • Turbo heaters, or huge fans, blast hot air directly onto the players. Running backs and receivers like the bench because they try to keep their legs warm and limber, and everyone likes the turbo for that last shot of heat before taking the field. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=284850 Edited January 21, 2008 by bountyhunter
bountyhunter
I remember hearing her say that there WAS heat pumping into the benches, but it wasn't keeping the benches warm. Different report, because the one I heard was when she said that the Packer bench was warm and the Giants wasn't. Based on the specs, those benches can keep scalding hot in sub-zero temps so if the bench was cold, it was not working. Rocket35
Well I am sure the Giant's side was turned down a tad then! Wouldn't want the liability of anyone getting hurt!
BNorth
Yep, what I heard was there was air pumping to the benches; but it wasn't warm. Edited January 21, 2008 by BNorth
boz1911
Yep, what I heard was there was air pumping to the benches; but it wasn't warm. That's exactly the way I heard it also.
bountyhunter
Yep, what I heard was there was air pumping to the benches; but it wasn't warm. OK, then that means the heaters were turned off and the blowers were left on to maximize the freezing airflow.Either way, it's obvious it was done intentionally.
