VV N320 or N310?

I've reloaded for my Wilson .45acp with N320 (5.1 grs. under a 200 LSWC, Fed 150's, and Win brass) with much success for the past 5 years. I am considering making the move to N310 as my current supply of N320 is running low. Any pros or cons with the N310 vs. the N320?

Where is the best source to buy? Thanks.

Hawker,

Welcome to the forum. Now go to the top right of your screen and click search. Leave the "Search this forum only" box checked and type in "N310 or N320" (without the quotes). That will give you about 150 threads on the VV powders in .45 with every imaginable bullet.

As for a source, Powder Valley does a fair job and will build up to a 48# shipment on one HAZMAT fee so go for a group order or stock up yourself! The stuff never gets any cheaper...

Later,

Chuck

I have used 3.8 gr. of VV N-310 with the 185 gr. Star LSWCHP bullet for bullseye pistol matches - extremely accurate out to 50 yards at ca 790 fps. I have also used 3.5 to 3.7 gr. N-310 with 230 gr. Rainier bullets for action pistol - very accuarte and mild load.

Think of VV310 as having all the same awesome attributes of CLAYS, with a linear pressure progression so you know when you need to back off. Everytime I see a pounder of it I buy it, it is that good. ( and I love CLAYS and use it a lot).

Great stuff and I recommend it over VV320 in 45, just because VV320 is best for me in 9x19 and .40 loads.

Here's some data for N310:

230gr Billy Bullet moly-coated lead round nose

Federal Cases and Primers

OAL = 1.270'

Crimp = .471"

Weapon = SW 625-8 revolver, 5" barrel

3.8 gr. N310 - 6 shot strings

String 1 String 2

Low 742 749

High 774 769

Average 758 756

ES 31.62 20.01

SD 11.66 7.81

This load is soft-shooting, clean, and accurate.

I use 4.0gr N310 with 230gr Frontier platad round nose bullets and get similar velocities. If anything, this load shoots a little softer and cleaner than the load listed above.

I use N320 (and WST) for 200gr 45acp loads.

Hope this helps.

Chris
