SmittyFL
I'm moving from para to sti, I'm interested on opinions of long or short dustcovers. Does the extra weight reduce felt recoil enough to make it worth slower transitions? What are your general opinions? Thanks, Smitty
Jon Merricks
I went from a Para to an S-I with long wide dust cover and my transitions have improved. So I dont buy into the heavy make the transitions slower.
Loves2Shoot
Maybe if you are a wimpy/weak person long dustcovers might make transitions slower. But I prefer heavier gun for overall shooting performance and style. I find I tend to overswing the lighter guns.
Flexmoney
Smitty, My guess is that the extra weight will work itself out in the transitions with a bit of practice. Most seem to like the advantages of the extended dust cover. But...what do I know??? I am shooting a Glock 35, which comes in at about half the weight of Robbie Leatham's gun. David Olhasso
When considering what frame to use I wouldn't worry too much about the transitions. I would worry more about what shoots well for you and what tracks well for the second shot. I know gms that use super heavy guns and I know gms that use light ones. It all comes down to personal preference. Personally, I prefer a heavier frame (long wide) and a light top end and barrell.
