I went out on Sunday 29 July 07, I only shot a total of 20 rounds to check the function of my Glock 35, since I had just completed a total conversion for use in USPSA/IPSC Limited and Limited 10 competition shooting.

I was very happy to notice how well I seem to shoot with the Warren Tactical rear and Warren F/O front sights. They are very nice, and I seem to be able to transition between targets much quicker.

I used to run a 20# wolff spring on a Springco, but have now switched to a Novaks extended G35 stainless rod with 15# ISMI spring. Seems to shoot much flatter now, and follow up shots seem to be much faster.

My new trigger set up is about where I want it. I would like to try a Vanek kit one day though, to compare mine with. I am using Lone Wolf 3.5 connector and Ultimate trigger stop, along with components from Ralph Sotelo (triggerkit.com).

I do like the shape and size of the JP Enterprises magazine release, however, I do foresee future problems with my grip. I think the Tango Down/Larry Vickers magazine release is on my horizon.

As for my Home done texturinzing, I can say this much, it rocks, much better than stock, and just removing the finger grooves would have probably been enough for me, but I really like the grip now. It just feels right for me.

Unfortunatly I did not have paper targets handy to se ehow accurate the new StormLake barrel and sights make the pistol, but that will be for my next range trip, where I hope to try out some new ammo. I have been shooting factory ammo for quite some time, and I really need to find something less stout!

I will post a complete workup of my pistol once I get the lighting right, and work on my macro shots. Eventually I hope to try my hand at reloading for the .40 S&W round. But right now, I see it being a while beofre I can get started on that venture!

If anyone has any questions or suggestions for me, please feel free to post!

In February 2007, I was rear-ended while stopped at a stop light. The driver of the other vehicle hit me at about 45 MPH. I have since been struggling with back pain and possible damage to my vertebrae as a result of the accident. This accident has put my entire way of life at risk.

I am active duty in the military, and am in a careerfield which required me to rotate in and out of Iraq every six months. As such, I have not been able to deploy and do my part in the war on terror. Unlike many, I want to go and do what I have trained so long to do. I have now missed two rotations to the desert, and in my place others have had to go. the worst thing about the entire situation, is that I now have 19 years in the military, and had always planned on staying as long as I could (26 years). But now because of this injury, I may be looking at a medical discharge, or at a minimum, they could force me to retire this time next year, unless of course the pain disappears.

I have already had two proceedures on my back to reduce the pain. The first was four cortisone injections into the facet joints, this was possibly the most painful thing I have ever endured. Yes, I did pass out from the pain, and I did pass out about 30 minutes later for some reason.

The second proceedure was to go back into my lower back, and using RF signals obliterate four of the nerves. Again, very painful, but afterwards I did feel much better.

Last Tuesday (7 August 2007) I had an appointment in Durham, NC with an Orthopedic specialist. I will have another MRI done soon, to see if anything has changed since my last MRI in March. I have been having problems with my sciatic nerve in my left leg for the last two months, and daily back pain since the accident. I have been on several different types of medication, most of which I feel have had no effect on me.

The doc told me there is little more he believes can be done, unless they see something on in the MRI, he said he believed fusing my back is about the best they can do for me. At 38 years old, I do not really think I want my back fused, but I will weigh the options as they are given to me.

Hopefully, there will be a simple fix to all of this.

As a result, I do not foresee my return to USPSA action anytime soon. I do intend to continue shooting as much as I can, but it is very taxing on my back to shoot even a small number of rounds! And for the time being running and maneuvering around obstacles is definately out of the question.

I figure it's time I update this a bit. I had a discectomy on my L5 disc in Jun 10, and a spinal fusion of the L5-S1 in Nov 10. I am feeling much better and am gaining my movement back. I have built three nice AR rifles in the downtime, and have recently retired from the Air Force after 22.5 years.

I moved to Raleigh, NC with my girlfriend and am really enjoying the capitol city.

There are plenty of shooting opportunities in the area here, and I am starting to get my pistols ready to join back in the shooting sports, although at this point, it will be at a much different pace.

Over the last year, I went back to teaching firearms instruction in the AF, so I got a lot of free time on the range. Nothing fancy, but had fun.

Glockster 35,

Came across your post while looking for some information on medications. I've had L4/L5 discectomy in 2002 and mine are fusing naturally. I'm doing pretty well as long as I keep my weight down below 180 lbs. At 185, pain starts up again. I am able to walk an hour per day, that helps with the weight but adds some irritation to the back. Nothing but tramadol for pain, I'm allergic to all NSAIDS. At 63, I'm having to learn to live with this stuff. I have to lay off the tramadol for 12 hours before shooting or my eyesight and trigger control suffer just enough to spread the groups.

Thank you for your service and hang in there.

Joe
