A38337
Considering (new) Benelli M2 Tactical with the 18.5" barrel, choice of rifle or ghost ring sights. Also considering a 24" M2 Field. Is the longer barrel gun the better gun for 3 gunning? Thanks, Scott
bigbrowndog
Scott, short answer..........NO 18.5" will do just fine. however it should have the ability to change chokes, that matters more than barrel length. I would say go with the rifle sight or the ghost ring, they are less likely to hang up on a port, and alomost become unnoticed when shooting shot. my benelli was set up this way for a few years before getting my 21" barrel. Jaxshooter
I have a Benelli with the factory 18.5 " barrel and had the barrel screw choked. I have a Improved cylinder, Modified and Improved modified choke for it. Depending on the average distances of the steel targets I put in the appropriate choke. It has never been a handicap vs a longer barrel.
A38337
Thanks for the replies. Intended application is Tactical class.
DogmaDog
I would think you'd be best served with a shotgun giving the maximum magazine capacity allowed for your class (8+1, for limited and tactical class, yeah?). So a ~21 or 22" barrel would be better in that regard, I think.
BillL223
There is no problem with using an 8 round tube on an 18" barrel. I've had good experience with the DMW tube.
