CSEMARTIN
I was just wondering if anyone here knows whether or not it is legal to undercut the trigger guard on a 1911 in USPSA & IDPA. Thanks.

Merlin Orr
Just went through the IDPA rule book and did not see anything mentioned about it. It is Not listed under permitted mods though...As a lot of guns come from the factory that way I would hope it is legal. Really really really hope so as I have done mine....... LPatterson
Generally speaking, if there is not a rule against something then it should be legal. However that doesn't mean than a decision hasn't been rendered making it illegal. IPSC does it frequently.
CSEMARTIN
I e-mailed Joyse Wilson a few days ago. I haven't heard back from her yet... I just want to know with some certainty that it's o.k. before I get out the power tools and start grinding. I just went to idpa.com and checked out the rulebook. I've read the rulebook several times, but I just noticed the terminology- inclusive/non-inclusive. Undercutting the trigger guard is not listed under the INCLUSIVE list of permitted modifications. Also, the list of excluded modifications is non-inclusive. It's not looking good, but hopefully, undercutting the trigger guard could be considered a custom finish?
