Dowter
With this check for $8.50 I have climbed my way out of the ranks of the mere amateurs and am now a "Professional Shooter". That it cost me $10.00 to enter the match IS NOT THE POINT! (Let's stay focused people.) That I earned $8.50 solely on the basis of my skills IS! Yeah, I'm a professional shooter today baby. Hear me roar. P.S. Oh and the bullets cost me about $6.00 BUT PLEASE REMEMBER THAT'S NOT THE POINT! P.P.S. This one is for Brian Enos or any other fellow professional shooters out there. At what point does the IRS acknowledge that guns, bullets, reloaders and such are a business expense and therefore tax deductible. I have about $10,000 in expenses and $8.50 in income over the last two years... I need some deductions.
ErikW
Feels good, doesn't it!? You're not a professional until your winnings are reported to the Infernal Revenuers and you start receiving 1099s. I fought Glock/GSSF over a $50 award payment they were withholding in absence of my socialist security number. They finally coughed it up when I pointed out neither of us has to report less than $600 in awards per year.
Patrick Sweeney
As I recall, you have to show a paper profit three years out of five in order to avoid the dreaded "hobby deduction" proclamation.
