wildbill
Can I use Laser-Cast Bullets in my Glock 22,40S&W and my Glock 17,9MM or can I use Rainier Ballistics coated bullets in my Glock Barrels?
1911user
The safest solution is a new barrel with normal rifling and good case support for $100-$150 if you are planning to shoot many lead bullets and/or shooting reloaded 40S&W brass at full/major pressure. My understanding is the copper-plated lead bullets are OK for glock barrels, but bare lead is a bad idea due to the way polyagonal barrels handle lead buildup and resulting pressure increases. George
Hate to disagree, but I shot lead bullets through a Glock 9mm bbl for years with no safety issues. Using hard cast lead is a good idea. All the issues anyone has had can be traced to too soft of a lead bullet being pushed too fast. Just like any gun shooting lead projectiles, you will have to clean the lead out occasionally to prevent buildup. A bore snake works well as does elbow grease. LPatterson
I am not sure this forum & moderators should get in the habit of of expressing opinions contra to manufacturers warrranties. Just because 1 barrel has shot 10000 rounds of lead does not mean the next one will. Does the beginning shooter really know how hard the lead bullet is that they might shoot through a Glock or other polygonal barrel. Follow the manufacturers instructions or you may have a very expensive paper weight.
bayoupirate
Listen to 1911 and buy a barrel designed for lead. In fact. I'd strongly recommend that you keep every part of your original gun as is. If your want to modify some part, buy a replacement and modify that part to use for competition/play. Barrel, Trigger group, etc... It also makes it very easy to transition your gun from match gun to carry gun in about 2 minutes.
George
Sorry guys, but again, I disagree and so do some others, even though some do agree. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...22&t=30828&st=0 http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...topic=29368&hl= http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3154&hl= http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...topic=11060&hl= This is not a safety issue that I need to stay away from! If you choose to shoot lead, here is how to clean it out: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...c=32220&hl=lead And some good info on why leading occurs: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5345&hl=
